Sorry, but this accomplished what it was supposed to and if you suddenly feel you can't trust a site because "OH NO THEY DID MARKETING PLOY BAAAAAWWWWWWW" I pity anyone you know in real life.
I'm sorry, but what did this accomplish, exactly? Other than overloading their servers after the comeback, since many are gonna want to download all the games they've bought, just in case.

With the sheer volume of sites reporting it, people who didn't know what it was before (or didn't even know about it) might say "I might check this out now.

Little known concept called "publicity."

As P.T. Barnum supposedly said "I don't care what they say about me as long as they spell my name right"

Yeah. Except that few sites reported it and nobody in their right mind will want to give money to a site that pulls pranks like this on their customers.

I fear you're wrong. It's a dick PR move, but it will work.

I dunno. I think it'll push a lot of potential buyers to wait until the game they want is released on Steam (and pay more, but get a reliable service), or to say fuck it and just go pirate it.

Can you imagine the uproar if Valve pulled that shit?

Well, Valve has some more customers than GOG. Also their target audience is a bit different.

I personally have forgotten that pr 'stunt' already and don't care anymore. There's no sense in raging more about it now, imo. Everyone agrees that it was bad anyway.

That only goes for established customers. This gave them a lot of free exposure and publicity that will pull in a lot more customers.

Which is why saying "What if Valve did this" is silly: Steam wouldn't benefit as much from extra exposure and would be hurt a lot more by annoying their established customers.

The only thing that this move has done for me is download all my GoG games and back them up.

Also, I'm happy they have Baldur's Gate.

What type of DRM are they putting into their games now?
