Good LAN games for old computers?

Most DOS games run in Win95 with no problem, a large amount require you to boot straight to DOS instead of windows though. There are a few that absolutely won't run without straight DOS 6.0, but I've found that DOSBox will take care of all of them.

It really varies from computer to computer - PC's have such a wide variation in hardware and various Windows patches and updates that you can't really predict which games will work and which won't (not to mention that not all game programmers are created equal). I've never been able to get X-Com:Apocalypse to work on any computer I've had, for example, while others have never had a problem at all.

Hey, I think system shock 2 might work on those pcs, there's an official patch out there that adds cooperative multiplayer, never tried it, but it oughta be fun

Good luck with that! I always remember it being a real bitch to get any DOS to do much networking at all, much less getting it to work with games... 95 did a decent job covering it's DOS heritage, though...

I remember trying to network Syndicate and Syndicate: American Revolt with Windows 95 and having no luck at all. It's a DOS-only network game. I seem to remember having to run it in complete DOS-only mode, with all DOS drivers.

I sold them, along with my Crusader set a couple of years ago when I returned to Korea. Nothing beats Pursuadatron-ing half the damned city and having a huge load of enemy agents "recruited" into the organization.

A lot of DOS games get along pretty well with Windows (95 and 98); later versions of Duke Nukem 3D networked pretty well. It depends on the game. When I look at some of the muddy graphics, I am reminded of my three-year old PDA.
