Greatest video game sound tracks

I was surprised by the quality of Vermintide's soundtrack. It's dirty, it's beautiful :

Who could forget the Sarafan stronghold's theme in Legacy of Kain ? Those raging drums. I would love to hear it with a real orchestra, if LoK got a next gen remake, but it's very unlikely.

Hotline Miami 2 is perfect when you're in the mood for pure raw violence, pixels and 80's.

And of course, the bleak, simple and beautiful credits music of Soma. At the moment you hear it, you are probably in shock and it's just perfect.

The protoss theme of Starcraft was so eerie and intense. Loved it. It sounded so alien.

And, of course, the Witcher 3's amazing, badass and emotional soundtrack. Too many tracks to quote, here, but I can't get tired of "Silver for monsters", "Widow Maker" and "The trail".

The two Shadowrun games for Sega and Snes have always stuck with me...Sega especially today can have some "tin" to their sound, and its not as fleshed out as SNES but I can still dig it.

Im sure with Shadowrun being my second favorite franchise has nuthin to do with it.

I do love the old school soundracks from back in the good old days a bit more than the super produced ones of today, but there are obviously standouts like TW3, even if you hate the music, the production is top notch and they fit the vibe, though they can get repetitive and annoying....Lookin at you polish folk music lady who howls over every batle...

Computers and arcades are vastly underrated compared to consoles. This shouldn't happen. That's why.

Trying to choose stuff that I, at a quick glance, didn't see mentioned already (Fallout/Fallout 2 is there a couple of times already, for example...):

Gothic 3 sports some pretty neat tracks in its OST

As does Risen 1:

HoMM series has always had good music (there's good music for hours on end in the whole series):

Disciples series also:

I love the mood in Arcanum's take in minimalism:

There'd be more, probably, but... yeah.

Diablo 1 OST is great, especially Tristram:

Glad the HoMM3 and Starcraft got mentioned as well, from the latter a lot are good, my favorite probably being:

Somehow it fits so well in the background, the sequel just couldn't replicate it for me.

I am really fond of the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack, especially the main theme. It was the first time I heard of Akira Yamaoka's work on the main Silent Hill games and it left a great impression of the main games' soundtrack. For the most part, I think the soundtrack of the main Silent Hill games are brilliant.

Another Silent Hill 2 track that plays in a pivotal moment of the game.

Planescape: Torment has a nice recurring theme throughout their soundtracks but the one that stuck with me the longest (aside for the main theme) would have to be Deionarra's theme. It certainly caught my attention when I played the game for the first time as I explored the Mortuary and even now whenever I hear the theme, I still feel sad as I recall Deionarra's torment at the hands of the Practical Incarnation.

EDIT: Added a few more I forgot to add.
Most of the Deus Ex tracks but this one really suited the mood and emotions raised in the level it appears.

Witcher 3 had some great tracks but the Hearts of Stone main theme was fantastic along with another track that plays during an optional but awesome boss fight (can't add it here because of the limit).

This might have been posted already. I would check but these pages full of video links slow my computer down like crazy.

Street Fighter 2010 had good background music for some of its levels.

Xenogears had great music

Squaresoft usually had good soundtracks.

Sure, I'll bring this thread back to life with dark magic.

Shout outs to @SuAside for recommending Dark Reign. I thought I was the only person that remembered that severely underrated and criminally overlooked masterpiece. I fucked with the level editor on that one like crazy in those days. Lore of the Realms and Lord of Magic get a lot of love from me as well. I still own the discs to all of those.

*looks back fondly*

Soul Reaver was well known for it's lack of load times in those days. That and a soundtrack that is still awe inspiring. The Dreamcast version is the one to go for. I had it for PSX though.

Ah, thanks for posting this one. Even today, I still listen to LoK's tracks, and still get chills from the Sarafan soundtrack.
Legacy of Kain is probably my favorite franchise, ever. Unmatched in terms of dialogues, character development, atmosphere and yes, soundtrack... If any franchise deserves a remaster, or proper new titles, it's LoK. It's also the most cursed franchise you can think about, with about 10 cancelled projects...

I am about to replay that with mods actually once I track them down.

Final Fantasy VII is pretty special...especially a high quality version. There's a lot of well written diverse sounds that suit the various moods in the game, good stuff.
