Ground Zero tech demo video

The first one looks cool....btw I went to their forum and went to the music section, downloaded everything off there but this particular track featured at the beginning of the second video wasnt there! Could you please upload it? I enjoyed it alot actually and like listening to instrumentals and stuff like that once in a while.

It fits very well with the setting, just a lonely guy walking around a destroyed city with no hope around him and the "hot" vibe due to the sun, just the whole wasteland package. lol

I found these on the forum too:

MrBTravelFinal1

MrBDeadCityFinal

You made those too right? I liked them more then the others featured there, but I still like the one on the video the most!

@ artwork, the first one looks really cool, I glanced through some artwork but there were so many stuff in that section i just didnt have the time to check them out but I really dig the first one you linked.

Amazing, just Amazing. I also have to reinstall Doom3 now :P but this would be well worth it. Really a excellent job done here, keep up the good work.

Christ, I started digging through allot of those design documents and am realizing the depth of thought that has been placed into this project. It looks to me that the AutoCad drawings, different perspectives and camera angels were taken into consideration before the coding started.

Is "Atomic Moon" your work Mr Bumble?

I'm digging this quite a bit.

Yeah, both are mine :)

If you like it that much then download this :

It is a compilation of music I did for Misleading Lands and Ground Zero. It includes the track you are searching for :)

Yeah. But they still lack of 3d artists I think so if anyone is interested in contributing the project, just apply on the forum :) It may take some time before they answer but they usually will.
As regards "Atomic Moon", it is a sort of weird remix. It is not mine, it is Blaise Douros' and it sounds pretty cool :)

Also, if you plan to download the third build, please keep in mind that it does not contain any quest or roleplaying feature yet. It just shows some of the game mechanics and basically what was showed in the video already.

Wow... thanks for the awsome responses, think you all just made us collectively blush :)

I'm project lead on Ground Zero, and just to back up Mr. Bumble we are in fact far from dead. Our forums did pretty much fall into disuse... we were overrun by spam bots, no one else was really posting, and our team fluctuated back down to a group that can luckily meet in person anyway! We're working on a website relaunch, wiki page for technical details, and will probably relaunch the forums as well.

We recently developed a method for randomly generating terrain from heightmaps (Doom 3 had no terrain tools) and spawning foliage based on elevation and groundwater: http://www.doom3world.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=19173

We don't have any dedicated 3D artists on the project so things look very mediocre at the moment, but the backend tech is falling into place. We try to make a public release every several months to show where we are at. In our current release (http://www.groundzeromod.net/files/groundzero_prototype31.zip) you can walk around a (very very rough) procedurally generated city and basically check out the combat system.

The basics of our next release: the player character travels via a world map between a number of cities like those in the current release, which are split between two factions. These cities grow over time and spawn parties of persistent characters that wander the world map. Parties of each faction attack each other on sight, or assault the cities themselves. If an assault on a city is successful, control shifts to the other faction. If the player goes to a location where a battle is in progress (in a city or the wasteland), he may enter it and try to affect the outcome. The game "finishes" when one of the two factions is wiped out.

Our coder will also release an external prototype of our social AI, which is where the real role-playing will emerge in future releases. We are actually moving toward dynamic characters, conversations, and quest generation for a "transcript as story" approach, rather than defined dialog trees and story paths.

Anyway, thanks again. Glad to hear people enjoy the kickass soundtrack too (we do need to move more of the finished tracks to the gallery section of the forums!)

p.s. Atomic Moon was actually an experiment by myself, built from hammering on metal pipes and tables. Blaise Douros's work is actually much more musical and well structured :-D

Hey, jlambvo, I'd just like to say that it sounds like you're doing pretty amazing stuff with (to) that engine and good luck.

Say, not to grave dig or anything, but anyone here have any more news on this mod? The www.groundzeromod.net link quoted on the YouTube vid just goes to a busted Tiscali link page.

This was one of the most exciting projects to appear on the radar.
