Isn't using names like Colt or Winchester or H&K or Glock using brandnames?
Yup. Any games that did either got the rights or where to unimportant to get sued.

The latter is impossible. If you fail to protect your brandname and copyrights, you lose the right to determine whether or not another institution can use the brand name/copyright and it becomes essentially free for use.El_Smacko said:Isn't using names like Colt or Winchester or H&K or Glock using brandnames?

SuAside said:most hunters use scoped bolt action rifles (and those are NOT sniper rifles, Grizzly). most commonly in 30-06, .308 and .300WM i guess. a single decently placed shot with those will usually kill the deer quick.Mikael Grizzly said:I still wonder why hunters don't just use large caliber sniper rifles and assault rifles. The animal doesn't stand a fucking chance anyway, so why bother with regular rifles?
hunting with "assault rifles" (for which i'll assume for now that you mean semi-automatic "Black Rifles) isn't usually looked favorable upon, because you'd need several shots to take the animal down most of the time. (this is mostly because hunters don't want to score headshots that ruin their trophy)
anyway, hunters shoot the body and with an 5.56mm or a 7.62x39 bullet, you really aren't sure the animal will go down with less than 3 hits. which is why most people dont want to hunt with an AR15, an AK or an SKS.
That's kinda creepy. Does one need to get rights to use weapon names in books too?Sander said:The latter is impossible. What do you mean by that? They asked for permission or bought a licence or something like that?Mikael Grizzly said:Sir-Tech did a great job with that in Jagged Alliance 2 <3

Also, why games should be treated in different way than books and movies?
In most games weapons are just tools for killing people just like in books and movies.Mikael Grizzly said:Because, I don't know, IN GAMES WEAPONS PLAY A PROMINENT ROLE?

When writing scripts it's advised to avoid using brand names incl. weapon types unless it has a significant meaning to the plot. I guess it's due to copyright laws.Sorrow said:And in books and movies that feature a lot of shooting, books about military, etc. they don't?
