From the people who own one or the other...which is the better buy (I have a gift certificate and obviously will buy one or the other)? I'm usually more the big RPG fan, but I really enjoyed the first Half-life 2. Also, does Steam have to be working in order to play it?

Bloodlines. It's an RPG, for fuck's sake. And by makers of Fallout to boot. How can you even ask?

bloodlines has performance issues.
No, it doesn't. Your configuration has performance issues with Bloodlines, mine and many other configurations don't have performance issues with it.

Activision talking head?

This is a dumb thing to get into. Suffice it to say, a system which meets the system requirements should be able to run the game playably, at least on lowest details.

True, but that`s what i said of HL2 until the last patch, you don`t imagine the number of people that have problems with it.
Now it´s fixed and i`m really enjoying it.

Bloodlines! Do not get me wrong, Half-Life 2 was good but Steam, Valve's policies, and the way Valve treats their customers makes Half-Life 2 not worth buying. Also, I think I had more fun playing Bloodlines than I did Half-Life 2. Bloodlines was a lot longer than Half-Life 2. There are many reasons to pick Bloodlines over Half-Life 2.

Activision talking head?
No, just someone who can do more than look at their config and go "This game has performance issues!"
The fact that it has issues with your PC, and other specific configurations, says nothing about the performance in general, except that the Source engine was poorly built in that respect.

Exactly, which is not Troika's fault but people seem to forget that.

I will admit, Source is the best engine out right now, to my knowledge. It just has many bugs. I do not think saying something like "Troika should have picked a better engine" would be very wise. Choosing Source as Bloodlins' engine was probably a double edged sword in that respect.
