Halo 4

Look, Ma! Two Heads!
Ok, so Halo 4 comes out in a month and a half. Apparently, the game is already finished, it just need to be certified and begin production of the discs...

Here are some screenshots:

Apparently, the lead designer and some other designers of Metroid Prime are working on this game and I can tell that it does seem similar to the Metroid Prime series in terms of aesthetic..

What do you guys think?

EDIT: For convenience...

Hello,

I have played most (if not all) of the previous games on PC and Xbox and while they are okay/acceptable SP games I honestly don't think they are worth the hype that fans surround it with.

As you said, the new game seems to share a lot of atmosphere with the Metroid Prime games but it will probably not have the sense of discovery of those.

What I rather dislike is the use of the 'reset' button regarding the Covenant member species (elites are 'evil' again) and the fact that we are expected to read the books to get a complete picture of the story. (not everyone is willing to read every book based on a game franchise)

I have actually pre ordered it (yeah laugh it up) as its a Sci-Fi FPS and those are in short number these days but I do hope they do a better job on this than Reach and the Anniversary Edition which was basically just a reskin of Halo 1. (why not put in the new game mechanics and so on and finally replace the repeated level with a new one)

I am a fan of the previous Halo games, but I'm not touching this with a ten-meter cattle prod. Without Bungie at the helm, this is just glorified fan fiction to me.

I like what I've seen so far. I even feel like it's a good thing that Bungie is no longer at the helm because, as fun and polished as their Halo games have been, they started to get stale awhile ago. Bungie seemed to be unwilling to take the series to its' full potential in terms of story. From what I hear, Halo 4 aims to change that and not require fans to read the mostly-shitty books to understand what is happening.

"The Covenant is bad again" makes sense as well because they are lost on the planet and unaware of the developments around Earth, as far as I understand.

I might have misheard but the theme of the game is supposedly exploration of the world and the culture of the Forerunners so it should be some fascinating stuff if you have followed the lore thus far.

I am also really impressed with the visuals, considering the platform. My only real gripe is the music. Always loved Halo music but it sounds a bit too Japanese-y and melodramatic here, I feel.

yes, I really hate it as well when either games or movies try to get a "deeper" plot that way even though there is no one, hey! There is not some huge story line in here besides of fighting and all that stuff. But! There are always the books out there which explain everything that looks like a plot hole! Thats rather bad story telling in my eyes. If a movie, game or what ever cant explain the situation to you without some other sources like books then they really do a bad job.

Because fans literally wanted a HD remake of Combat Evolved. Also adding anything new would screw up the ability to change between new and old look on the fly. Which no one used but was a big selling point.

I will be getting Halo 4 simply to play a decent console multiplayer shooter that isn't CoD or Battlefield. Honestly I would prefer some new titles to more of the same sequel crap.

And its becoming more and more common.
In the past comics and books were 'side stories' that added material or just went deeper into some details. But these days the comics and books fill in everything the games don't bother with as they just jump onwards and expect the players to buy all this stuff in order to get the complete picture.

Halo was destined to go downhill after the first game given Microsoft bought up Bungie and most of the founding people that made Bungie Bungie left. Still, can't tell you the number of hours of fun I've had playing split-screen multiplayer Halo 1/2/3 with my friends. It's just too bad we're all grown-up now and getting together like that is next to impossible.

Anyways, graphics look nice and I like that Elites are enemies again. Elites were always far more interesting enemies than Brutes or the Flood. Other than that, I'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, I also found Elites much more entertaining to fight against compared to Brutes....

One thing I liked about Halo was that the co-op was such fun! Not many FPS games out there offer co-op especially not the 4-player co-op that Halo 3, Halo Reach had and now hopefully Halo 4 will have also...

Speaking of the Flood, apparently they're back in Halo 4.

Yes, I read about it but before people get worried, its only part of the multiplayer mode called 'Infection'.
No mention of them being in the SP campaign and I hope they won't as I feel their story has been told.

I dunno, I really really really want to kill the Gravemind. After all he foisted us with the cruddy ending to Halo 2.

While I can understand your reasons I do feel that if the Gravemind or a new Gravemind comes in to play, it reduces the plot of Halo 3.

I also think that re using the same enemy over and over becomes boring after a while.
Hence why I feel that the Elites being bad guys is also repetitive and speaks of lack of imagination.

Never got the hate for the Flood. They provided some of the most insane, action-packed segments I ever had in an FPS. I even loved the Library.

Fighting off hordes of those berserkers and the little balloon things and having more Warriors leap over and land behind you and then noticing, with horror, that you let one of those exploding Carriers too close... those were some good times. I challenge you to play through that with a friend on legendary and not have fun.

I do admit that they could get fucking annoying in Halo 3, especially the ones that transformed into those fucking turret things that shot little shit at you from the other end. There was one area with a bunch of those that drove me fucking crazy.

No, I'm pretty sure they are not.

Planescape: Torment's Scott Warner is actually the Lead Game Designer on it. The Narrative Director did the cinematics on Mass Effect 2. The Creative Director did the 2008 Turok as well as Def Jam. The Lead Designer position have two guys one was the director of *Destroy all Humans* on PS2 and the other did COD: World at War.

Planescape? Interesting...

Anyway, the Metroid Prime designers aren't in "lead" or "directing" positions...that is true....so perhaps their influence is not too great...

Or it could be that I heard wrong and there are no Metroid Prime designers on the team....could just be a rumor...

Just looked up this Scott Warner. He was a designer on PT and Icewind Dale and a tester on Fallout 2. Very interesting.
