Happy 18th Birthday Fallout

Well, they learned it from the best I would say.

Meh, the last Dune game was really not that Stelar. Still better than anthing that EA has done with C&C though.

However, I really would love to see more stuff coming from the Dune universe, be it with games, movies or even TV series - as long it's done well, like HBO making a Dune mini series in the quality of Game of Thrones, Band of Brothers etc. However EA, Ubisoft etc. should get a stay away order from Dune where they are not allowed to get closer than 50 yards to anything related to Dune. Fucking rapists. Poor boy Fallout will never recover.

It marked the decline of the franchise.

Not really. Generals marked the decline - it wasn't a bad game, but it was way different from previous CnC. I can't say that I did not like it though.

Tiberium Wars was more in spirit with the originals. I personally consider it a great title - it was worthy of its predecessors. Great singleplayer, fun multiplayer. What's important for me it had a great story, top-notch. I like to think that it was made by people from Westwood who got assimilated into EA, though I have no idea if there's truth in that.
One of the last good titles that EA made and published. It's expansion pack was solid too, even if it went over the top in certain aspects.

Tiberian Twilight was the biggest piece of shit one could have ever made. Completely ruining the story, completely ruining the gameplay...everything. It was a bunch of bad designer decision combined with a very short time for development (from what I've read, they had little more than 6 months). After experiencing CnC3 I was really hopeful that EA could deliver another classic RTS...oh how was I disappointed.

On a personal level, I think it was that game, that fucking title, which made me lose every belief and hope in new video games in general. Since then I've never looked forward to a new title with so much passion. I didn't want to ever get burned again. Granted, I play new games, but only after much time has passed since their release date. And I stopped caring about every franchise I've ever liked, since well, they all got fucked.

Never played RA3, though from what I've seen it was okay. I was never that much into RA though, more of a Tib fan.

Fuck it, I need to replay those older games now. It's been years.

For me I think that game was probably Sword Of The Stars 2. Followed every single second of that damn game's development, was excited as hell for it, stayed up to play it at the first second of its release. They released it as practically an alpha and then basically acted as if we were the assholes for not accepting an unfinished product. I remember their creative/writing director or whatever it is she even does there trying to compare them failing to deliver a product on-time and in an acceptable state to a failed pregnancy on her blog in an attempt to somehow excuse them failing to deliver a product on-time and in an acceptable state, along with a whole heap of other incidents that just showed the overall maturity of the developers.
It took them a year and a half's worth of patches to get it into a release-worthy state. It's not even really "done" now, though, since people were still complaining about balance issues last I looked at the forums.

Really opened my eyes to a lot of the gaming industry's problems. I've never preordered a game since then.

Yesterday was also the 20th anniversary of CnC.

Two of my most beloved franchises which were raped beyond recognition celebrate their birthdays. Feels weird. Not that I care anymore.

Red Alert.. Tiberian Sun.. fun times.. Westwood made some awesome games. Anyone here played Dune 2000?
Dune 2000 was my first PC game. I loved it. I had played Dune 2 before at a high school computer where it was installed for some reason. I loved that one too. I also loved Battle for Dune: Emperor, it had awesome 3D graphics for its time and overall a great campaign mode.

Hey, can I ask you what game (or else) your avatar is from? I googled the image but found nothing and I am very curious about it.

Dune 2000 was pretty cool, yeah. In retrospect, it's not a particularly good RTS nor was it lore-friendly, but it was among my first games too, so it's in fond memory.

OpenRA fucking rules.

Yeah, I know about it. I should probably try it out, though I'm more into original CnC gameplay.
Still, Dune 2000 does look tasty.

It's pretty much like the originals, though. The UI is improved (tabs like in RA2), but the gameplay hasn't changed much, as far as I can tell (which isn't very far, because my memory of vanilla gameplay is kinda fuzzy).
Also, CnC1 skirmish.
Man, now I kinda want to play Renegade again.
