How do you guys think the Wasteland series compares to Fallout?

Wasteland 1 was alright and fresh for the time and is sort of enjoyable now.

2 took that and became boring tripe and felt like a rehash of everything 1 did, but shifted to Arizona and to LA, though the minor factions were interesting to a degree.

3 is moving north to Colorado and if they have another damn AI big bad, well I wouldn't be surprised. Disappointed but not surprised.

Pre-War (what AI were there in '89 again? But I guess they split off before that as there was some sort of Star Wars system in place, too) coming up and making cyborgs and robots to kill everyone else...they need a new script is all. The Rangers can be doing so much more like either helping or opposing a state rise, dealing with invaders from the south or north, or somethin'.

Fallout was originally supposed to be a sequel to Wasteland—but not for very long; they would never get the rights.

There are striking similarities though.

Tycho mentions the rangers, and in Fallout 2, NCR has a rangers outpost.

Wasteland 2 is —practically— FO:Tactics 2, with a different story/setting.

Wasteland 1, like Fallout 1 and 2, is arguably a classic, but with the bonus of having inspired an entire post-apoc RPG subgenre.

Wasteland 2 was painfully mediocre and while I enjoy playing it, it’s not GOTY material. Wasteland 3 looks promising, however, but 2 taught me not to get my hopes up.

I have been pretty disappointed with both entries so far. With Wasteland 2 in particular I felt like it was just squandered potential. I hope 3 is better.
