How do you think W2 is going to compare to FO2 ?

It Wandered In From the Wastes
I think Fallout 2 is going to be better gameplay wise. Why? Because in W2 you'll be forced to play with a party which automatically makes the world less open, story more linear etc. I mean, you won't have as many options as you did in Fallout. I think one character gameplay with an option to add NPCs to your party is much better.

How does playing with a party do all this?

They're pretty different style gqames, in many ways. Wasteland 2 doesn't really have to live up to Fallout 2, though, it has to live up to Wasteland 1.

I really don't get the issues people have with party-based RPGs. I think the genre has just been dead for too long, people forget why they worked.

you really think the Wasteland 2 is going to have more similarities with Wasteland 1 than with Fallout? Really? Gameplay-wise? not story.

That's not what I said. But sure, the perspective in towns will be Fallout, and the combat system more Fallout: Tactics than Wasteland 1. But quest design, location design, character system, etc wise, it'll be as much Wasteland as anything else.

This isn't a Fallout sequel or reboot. A lot of people seem to expect that. It should please Fallout fans, sure, but it might disappoint if that's what you expect.

ok, so just tell me what do you prefer, party based or optional party based with NPCs that can be added to your party. I wanna hear what you think. I prefer the latter.

Kill off your three party members for all you care. Be a lonely ranger.

I'm pretty sure with mod tools someone will make a Lone Gunner mod. Also, party-based RPGs doesn't necessarily mean a linear game. It's just that the game('s choices) is developed with the party as the protagonist in mind. In all other aspects it's just as a Single PC RPG.

I don't really "prefer" either one, no more than I prefer single-PC-with-no-followers to the PC-with-followers model. They all have different purposes, disadvantages and advantages.

The old Gold Box era games worked great with multi-PC parties, Wasteland was such a game, so it's only logical Wasteland 2 should be too, and I have no doubt it will do great with it.

None of those classic games had much problems with using skill-based systems, choice and consequence and non-linear narratives, if they so wished. It makes no difference.

I got a huge Wasteland vibe from Fallout: Tactics (both in plot and gameplay.) so I wouldn't be surprised if it handled a lot like Tactics.

Ditto. I thought Fallout Tactics was one of the better of the original fallout trilogy and would love to see a similar game.

Hey noobs! In WL1 you could create a party of PCs but also recruit NPCs. If you wanted a full party, you had to recruit NPCs. Who says this will be different in WL2? Admittedly, I have not been following the game development much so I don't even know if that is awnsered already.

And really, in F1&2 you had extremely limited banter with recruitable NPCs, to the point where if I had the option, I'd rather create my own party. I'd recruit Myron though. Always.

I've never played wasteland and my attempts to get an emulator working fail. But from the video it makes me think of a mix of the old XCOM game and fallout1/2

Ever played Jagged Alliance? pretty open world, non linear, particularly in how you do the story.

Sure as far as dialogues go there was nothing like that in JA2. But just because its an party you control doesnt mean it has to be linear in everything.
