Dependent on laws and the contracts between the employees who worked on the documents and Interplay and whatever was involved with Bethesda and Interplay's exchange as well. But I'd imagine it heavily depends on how whichever party with the rights to those documents feels about their release, I'd imagine at this point between it being over 20 years and being an incomplete project that Interplay doesn't own and Bethesda has taken the franchise in their own direction that whoever is in charge of it probably doesn't care too much in both directions. I doubt they care enough to release the documents officially and I doubt they care enough to hunt down anyone leaking those documents and pursue legal action.Anyone know if it's illegal for them to release it? From what I remember the design docs that got leaked way back when were technically still under copyright because Interplay existed at the time, but is that still an issue? Would Bethesda be able to DMCA posting the document online?
Interplay is still around though, they just haven't really released anything new. I think they've just focused on re-releases (that they still own of course). The last thing I think they released was Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance a few years ago and they used the Black Isle name as developers of the re-release. Probably nearly no one actually working there and rather just a few people or maybe just the owner signing papers and collecting money from digital sales at this point.
