How the Chosen One could be the Courier...

So, it'll seem pretty unlikely, and it's possibly non-canon anyway but I've been thinking of a few ways on how the Chosen One could be the Courier.

So first off, if Fallout 2 is set 80 years after Fallout 1 (and depending on the age of the Vault Dweller) we got possibly pit their ages to be something like this;
Vault Dweller (30-36)
Chosen One (20-26)

This gives the Vault Dweller some time to have a wife (or partner), have a child who will then have a child of their own.

This then leads to the events of new Vegas (which are set 39 years after F2) where the Chosen One will be about 59-65 (unless he was a bit younger in Fallout 2 meaning you can at a stretch put forth the Courier being 58 or 57).

It's not too far of a stretch for a 60 year old to be running about and destroying robots and stuff (maybe it's a bit too much of he was around the late 60's or so).

This now brings me on to what can be considered the inconsistencies.
So why wouldn't anyone recognize the Courier as the Chosen one? Well, aged has made them unrecognizable (this is especially true for Marcus).

And the Courier themselves probably can't remember much due to being shot in the head.

This could explain why the Courier knows so much of the surrounding areas (and why he has a Vault 13 jumpsuit if you have the DLC installed).

The only thing I can think of that negates all of this is Marcus's ending in Fallout 2, where it states that The Chosen One never saw Marcus again.

While I don't believe this myself to be the case, I like to think of them as two different entities (maybe the Chosen One and the Courier crossed paths at some point), but it was just a theory I had that people might find interesting.

I remembered how in TTW Forums, a modder (not sure if the guy in question is a part of TTW team or not) wanted to make a mod to seamlessly blend the story of Fallout 3 with that of New Vegas, basically trying to make, with everything he/she can, the Lone Wanderer = the Courier. The mod has been scrapped, though, because of a heated argument of how it's just not possible. But, if I'm not mistaken, it was also continued by someone else, and was continued in the initial way it was intended by the original modder. I can't remember exactly what it was titled, though, and it was buried deep within the TTW Forum :/

Personally, I thought the Chosen One would just enjoy the remainder of his days in Arroyo. But that won't explain how the Highwaymen made it near the area around Novac :/ maybe a dumbass though he could use the Highwaymen after the Chosen retired, I don't know.

I don't really buy into the theory. The Courier's backstory is intentionally left so vague so you can come up with whatever you want for his backstory. If you really want to you can do enough mental gymnastics to make it plausible for him to be the Chosen One but I certainly don't.

If your Chosen one is 19- 20 its plausible, I did a legacy run of 1 -2 and NV . Vault Dweller ancestor of Chosen one who is old man by time of Vegas etc. Makes playing with the vault 13 suit and canteen more fun. Chosen Courier runs can be a blast.

Since you brought up Marcus, I think another problem that kinda rips a hole into this theory is that Marcus remembers the Chosen One pretty well. You can even ask him vague questions about him. If you were really the Chosen One I feel like he'd recognize you on the spot or at the very least remark "you seem familiar" even if you are older. Let's not forget that the Chosen One would probably have a lot more remarks to give to his former friend.

Pretty much exactly this, and knowing how well Marcus remembers Jacob, there's no possible way he wouldn't recognize the Chosen One, even with age. Still an interesting theory though, and i'd say the Chosen One is probably still alive at the time of New Vegas, possibly still at Arroyo.

Well, you could roleplay that if you wanted. The Chosen One is canonically 20 years old at the beginning of Fallout 2. So, he'd be an older guy, but not too old.

Personally, I always took the Chosen One as having visited the Mojave a long time ago. I mean, you find a crashed Highwayman with a Vault 13 Jumpsuit in the trunk and in the nearby town there's a .223 pistol for sale. I once roleplayed the grandson of the Chosen One searching for the fate of his legendary grandfather, who disappeared long ago to the East.

I guess you could do some lore gymnastics to make it fit, but your character would have to be ageing and a bit beat up to represent how a chosen one 20-30 years on would look.

I'm with AlphaPromethean on this. I like the idea that the Chosen One disappeared into the east. Crashed the Highwayman in the Mojave, then carried on wherever they were going on foot.

Besides, the Courier doesn't make nearly enough pop culture references to be the Chosen One.

This is all true, I personally like to think The Chosen One also just ended up going somewhere. It was more of a theory I had rather than anything concrete.
I don't like direct continuations in Fallout games, rather the setting and time continues with story threads that come together by different characters.

It's definitely a roleplay I'll consider trying out sometime, playing Fallout 2 and New Vegas as the same character. Sounds fun. Will just need to stay away from Marcus though.

Heh, wonder if I could mod it to start the game at the Highwayman location.

If anyone in New Vegas is the Chosen One it would be No Bark. You could definitely role play as the Chosen One. There is also the problem of Marcus and some people calling you kid or youngster.

All I'm going to say is that if my chosen one got shot in the head like that in the first place he better stay dead. I built him better than that!

Although I do enjoy doing the old codger runs in Fallout NV. Simply because I find it funny some old dude is tearing up the wastes like the survivalist in Zion did.
