First time out of the vault

I'll start with some background. I picked up vanilla New Vegas off a recommendation from a friend. Partially because I wondered what the big deal with all this "Fallout" stuff was, partially because an open world RPG set in a post apocalyptic version of where I lived sounded like the best game ever. I enjoyed it a lot (despite the fact I got the ridiculously glitchy PS3 version) and decided to play Fallout 3. While not crashing nearly as frequently as New Vegas was a nice novelty, it was not nearly as good and I found myself playing it mostly to kill time. By time I finished Mothership Zeta I was downright irritated. After FO3 I decided to play FO2 to scratch the Fallout itch. While exceptionally good in almost every aspect, I still prefer New Vegas. It's the perfect combination of the power fantasy gameplay of FO3 and the ruthless wasteland gameplay of 2, in my mind.
But now for the topic at hand. I never bought the ultimate edition for PS3 since it was glitchy enough without all the DLC, and these games get more and more buggy the longer you play them. However, I've got an OK computer, though I only have an integrated graphics chip. Either way, my computer is supposed to run the game better than consoles according to Google. Then again, a Pentium 4 could run the game better than the PS3 did.
Long story short, I'm going to pick up the Ultimate Edition for PC pretty soon. Since I will inevitably play the DLC anyway, this may seem like a pointless question, but I'd like confirmation it wouldn't be a complete waste of time. I specifically chose to ask here as this place clearly has higher standards than other communities that usually rank Skyrim and Fallout 3 among the greatest video games of all time. The Fallout 3 DLC is generally liked elsewhere where as I found every single DLC besides Broken Steel to be varying degrees of insufferable.
So yeah, to end this convoluted first post, in your opinion, is the New Vegas DLC worth playing? How would you rank them?
Also I like cats. Are there any cat mods? I know they're supposed to be kind of sort of extinct but I want a cat. Preferably one with a backpack that can hold a bunch of power armor. And lasers.
