i have never done any mods before, what are the best for NV and Fallout 3?

ok, the problem seems to be with the autumn leaves mod, it refuses to install it, it starts installing and then stops. i even tried doing the manual install and adding the file to nmm, and it refused to do it. yet the yup mod worked. so what does that mean, exactly?

i tried it a few times, it didnt wanna install at any time. this happened when i tried to use mod orgainizer, one that my friend suggested. the installer gave mer errors and the manual zip version gave me errors as well. makes me wonder if people are screwing things up at the nexus site cuz that was where i dloaded the mod and the mod organizer at and they both had issues.

If the rar is hrowing menus when installing it manually then the file itself is corrupt. Try downloading it like normal with the browser and install it with whatever mod manager you use. I use the Nexus Mod Manager I have never had much issue installing mods.

it dloads fine, but it refuses to install, i tried manual dload via browser as well as from nmm, and i get the same message. error when installing.

my friend recommended i use mod organizer as i mentioned, and when i try the installer the first thing it says once it started installing is error, and wouldnt stop, so i had to abort. i tried the zip file version and it extracted and then said there was an error halfway trhough, the checkfile or something was bad and it listed a bunch of files that had the errors. i did manual dloads for those as well. so i would like to know what is going on, why am i getting errors from these files that i am dloading? i tried dloading them several times in different ways and it wouldnt work.

yet i know YUP works cuz it installed just fine. autumn leaves said it was in version 1.004, and yet i cant get it to install, and if there are errors i really dont want to manually try dropping the file into my new vegas data folder.

Well it seems like the download is just corrupt, you may want to askthe mod author directly on the mod page, check if anyone else is having similar issues, they might have updated recently and uploaded a corrupt versionof the compressed file.

i tried project nevada, also seemed to dload fine but when i went to install it gave me an error, for that one it said that i need the script extender as well as use fomm, but i think it just means a mod manager in general. not having the script extender in my fallout game directory shouldnt prevent it from installing right? it is only used for actually running in the game?

...oddly enough, dloading project nevada from the website itself, it installed fine this time. i dont know if i like how mods may or may not work. :S

i dont get how extender works though, i dont get the point of what it even does. trying to read the site you get it at doesnt help either.

Here you go. This tutorial should help with NVSE. It is a tool that basically expands the crappy gamebryo engine, unlocking most of the other features that enable mods that add new mechanics to the game.

Project Nevada suggests using FOMM but it isn't actually necessary.

ok, so for whatever reason, once i put the script extender stuff into the proper directory, things started installing properly for autumn leaves and project nevada. how odd.

Not odd, should've said that you didn't have NVSE on in the first place. It is basically the key to most mods working. Also, if you are planning to install a lot of mods, then you must install the 4GB Enabler or you will have a lot of problems.

It makes it so that New Vegas can use the full 4gb virtual memory it's allotted instead of being limited as usual.

Makes things run smoother in general I've found as well. It's a different .exe though, so just launching from Steam doesn't start it, I believe. If you get the Fallout Mod Manager though, you can set it's launch up to be the 4gb.exe.

There is the unofficial fallout patch for F3 which is pretty much mandatory. If you want something similar to Project Nevada, then there is Fallout Wanderer's Edition, which IIRC was made by the same people, there is also FOOK but I have never used it myself. Ironsight mods exist, but they can be buggy and do not always work with other weapon mods.

so what exactly is the project nevada and wanderer's edition mods? i tried project nevada, wasnt too big of a fan of it when i put on the power armor.

Are you talking about the helmet overlay? That can be disabled through the mod menu. Project Nevada and FWE are overhaul modds that add new mechanics, items and content like: Sprinting, Bullet TIme, Grenade Hotkeys, Nightvision, Cyberware, Improved Basic Needs, New Perks, Dynamic Crosshairs, Explosive Entry and more. Like mentioned before, the visor overlay can be removed. You will also need to install oHUD to be able to see the new additions to the HUD that Project Nevada/FWE bring. FWE adds similar content, except it's limited by the downgraded Gamebryo that F3 runs on.
