IC- Zombie Apocalypse Chapter 2- The Quick and the Undead

Status
Not open for further replies.
At the helicopter:
McCain heard Lereux give the reply and started jogging back toward the motel.

In the garage:
Alice stared at Mitchell and Bob coldly. She pointed her pistol at both of them and said, "I have had enough shit in the last few days to piss me off. I am highly educated but this new world will most likly not need my skills. So I am going to go have as much fun as I can before I get killed. You have a problem with that maybe i will kill you fuckers first. So if I were you I would shut the fuck up and stop ordering me around cause I have had it. Comprene?"

In the office:
Jim was very excited because he beleived that the radar complex mentioned in the diary might be the site of the PMS compound. He called Max to follow him and went out into the hallway where he stopped trying to decide which way to go.

In the Garage -

"You've got to be fucking kiddin' me..." Bob sighs "As if not enough people died an unnecessary and senseless death in this garage..."

"David, get your chick under controle or we'll have to do it for you." he warns as he continues to work while ignoring Alice.

(OOC: Stompie hasn't posted, but it's been a week so I'm going ahead with the next update. I'll roll Sanity for Hockey.)

On the west side of the motel-
"Agreed, Lewis," said Lt. Malone, "I've got the front. Let's get this thing upstairs. Move, move, move!" She lifted from the front while Mikhalin helped Lewis bring up the rear. She had no difficulty lifting that end by herself when Malanowski didn't come to help her. "Come on, Malanowski, let's go!" She started walking backwards up the stairs. "Malanowski! Phillips! Quit your blubbering and help us out!"

As Lewis and Mikhalin cleared the bottom step, four more ghouls sprinted from the grass towards the motel. Unlike the first one, which had to have gotten past the Claymores before they had detonated, these had all been badly wounded by the shrapnel. Two of them had lost their right arms and shoulders, another had several holes in its chest, and one more had a huge hole blown in its belly, its intestines trailing out and leaving a disgusting mess behind. They got to within fifteen yards of the motel and were closing fast.

On the motel balcony-
Hockey hesitated when he saw the horrific creatures, but he barely kept his wits about him.

"I'm coming!" called Zorie Spooner. She ran back to the south along the balcony, reaching the top of the stairs.

Captain Lereux fired at the zombie in front, but his shot went wide. Duran also took a shot with his M-16, with better luck. The thing took a bullet in its head. It stumbled and slowed down, but did not stop.

(Hockey has one round of combat to shoot. If he fires a burst from his SAW, he can hit at most two targets because they are fairly spread out. He may fire up to 20 bullets, dividing them among the last two zombies if he wishes.)

On the motel's roof-
Sam Black screamed at the sight and blacked out.

(Sergeant Black will be unconscious for seven rounds, including the last one and the current one.)

Thayer lined up another shot and fired again, missing by inches. "Come on, you two," he said without looking at the snipers. "How come you're not shooting?"

In a downstairs motel room-
Cole had managed to attach three more rungs to the rope ladder, leaving only three to go, when he heard more shouting and gunfire from outside.

(If Cole leaves the room or goes to the door, he will see the zombies and will need to roll Sanity. If he does, he cannot also attack this round.)

At the helicopter-
McCain circled around to the west side of the helicopter and ran back towards the motel, though it was still a long way off. He was a fast runner, but he couldn't be sure he would get there in time.

Erica Spears remained by the helicopter. The first barrel was almost dry, and she couldn't be certain that Ortega would be able to stay there and switch barrels. She couldn't afford any delays, so she remained where she was to do it herself. While she waited, she consolidated her two partial 9mm magazines, loading all of the bullets into one.

In the garage-
"Alice, baby," said David, "just put that away before someone gets hurt. When we're done fixing the truck I'll show you there are still things worth living for."

Jimmy came around from the other side of the truck, his shotgun ready. He tried to move around behind her so that she'd be between him and David, thinking her attention was diverted, but she almost heard his footsteps on the concrete floor. Only his amazing stealth kept her from detecting him. He reached his position and leveled the shotgun at her. "Drop it, you crazy bitch!" he yelled.

On the roof of the diner-
"Yeah," said Azadeh, "nothing can survive a Claymore, right? I just hope the military's up to the task. If they can't stop these things, what chance does anyone have? Well, I'd better stock up on ammo before this bunch arrives from the east." She looked around and saw Samantha on the roof of the garage. "Hey, she's got an M-16!" She called across to her. "Samantha! Do you have any extra magazines I can borrow?"

On the roof of the garage-
"I guess I can spare a couple," Samantha called back. "No more than that, though. Otherwise I'll run low myself."

In the warehouse-
Robert stood at his post, waiting for the others to come up from below.

In the kitchen-
"We won't be staying in here long," said Sally. "We're almost done, and I don't like the idea of being in here with those rats after what happened. Sure, they're normal now, but who's to say they'll stay that way?"

"Ja," said Dr. Hausmann. "It'll just take us a minute to finish up. Dr. Blanco, you can go back up if you want to. We can take it from here. You can let Stephanie and the others know we'll be leaving in a couple of minutes."

"Okay," said Angela Blanco. "Take care of yourselves. I'll try to convince my CO to provide some aid and protection to your people." She picked up Stephanie's laptop and went back into the hallway.

"I'll just drop this bottle off in the reception area, then," said Willie, following her out.

Kimberly examined the suppressor while she watched the doctor and nurse put a splint on Lynne's leg.

In the hallway-
Jim Kerr entered the hall, with Max tagging along behind him. He saw Willie and Lt. Blanco emerge from the mess hall and head into the reception area.

In the reception area-
"Any of you interested in coming up to the roof to stand watch and shoot any more of those things that show up?" asked Beth. "We could use a few more people up there."

"I might if I still had a rifle," said Jenny, "but I'm also curious as to what's down here."

"I for one wouldn't mind if I never saw this place again," said Kerry.

"I'm done here," said Baldwin, "so I'll go with you."

Lt. Blanco and Willie came back in. Willie set down the last bottle of soda. "I'm finished too," he said. "I'll come along."

"Dr. Hausmann says she'll be ready to go in a couple of minutes," said Lt. Blanco to Stephanie. She turned to Ramirez, who was now carrying the new laptop in the carrying case, not noticing that Stephanie was still typing on Dr. Hausmann's computer. "You ready to go back to the motel, Ramirez?"

"Thanks," said Stephanie. She removed the computer from the desktop and put it on her lap behind the desk so she wouldn't see it. She hurried to get as much work done as she could before it was time to head up.

In the cell block-
Ellen, Gary, and Randall walked back into the cell block from the showers. "Mr. Foo?" said Gary. "Is that the guy that owns the motel across the road?"

"Yes," said Ellen. "I'm the maid there. I've working for him for about six years, but I had no idea how much he was capable of. He doesn't talk about his past much, but from what little he did say I gather it's quite interesting. Maybe if we all survive he can tell us about it, if he's willing. I'd love to hear more." Besides, she thinks, it would take my mind off of losing Charlie.

Gary failed to pick up on her sadness, as did Randall.

They approached Duke, who was still standing outside the open prison cell. The rat was chewing hungrily on the corpse. "What's up?" asked Gary.

Between the motel and T-bone:
McCain heard what was going on in his radio and tried to jog as fast as he could toward the T-bone. As he ran he wiped sweat from his forehead.

On the motel stairs:
Lewis saw the creatures coming toward him but figured that it would be better to get the gear upstairs instead of taking time out to shoot. "Come on, " he grunted as he pushed the gear up the stairs.

In the underground hallway:
Jim Keen stopped to listen and figure out where to go. He decided to move down toward the cell blocks where he had been before going back up to the office. "Come on boy," he called to Max.

In the garage:
Alice heard Jimmy yell at her and looking at David with hatred for not helping her she put her hands up and dropped the pistol to the ground. She then said, "Can I turn around to go?"

In the garage-
"Yeah," said Jimmy, "just get out of here."

"Hey," said David to Jimmy, "don't you threaten my girl like that."

In the garage -

"David, respectfully: shut the fuck up, you're not helping. Jimmy, thanks for the backup, but you can lower that longarm now." Bob says "Alice, you can even keep your guns for all I care, but the next time you point them at an unzombified person, there'll be hell to pay."

"In the long run, I'm guessing it's human stupidity that'll kill us, not these zombies." he adds "It seems genetically predestined that we turn on eachother when in a crisis situation, somehow. What a damn shame... Try not to let it happen here, or we all die."

At the motel -

Cole continues to work on the ladder and doesn't go outside.

"Cole here, give me a sitrep out there." Cole says on the radio, growing a bit concerned with the lack of report. After all, normal weapons fire, but no SAW or the Barrett? What's going on?

On the roof of the diner -

"Claymores, well, that'd depend on what it hits wouldn't it? We've shot arms and legs of these zombs and they just keep comin'." Luke replies to Azadeh "But don't worry, claymores are dumb, but we aint."

"Damn it, I've got this gnawing feeling that I should be doin' something more then sitting on this blasted roof... I'm no leader -hell, I'm a loner if anything-, but even I can see we need to whip this into shape or we wont hold out." he remarks "We're ok for now, I suppose, but we need to start worrying about nightfall."

"Besides, I doubt simply digging in here would be a good idea."

In the garage:
Alice slowly turned around and said, "So motherfucker, can I go or not? It would help to know. You can have the gun, it was dirty anyway, hope you blow yourself up when it fires asshole."
She waited for leave to get the fuck out of the garage.

In the garage-
Jimmy lowered the barrel of his shotgun. "I said you can go," he said, "so get the hell out of here."

In the garage:
Staring at Jimmy, Alice said, "I would have given you such a great lay if you had only been nice. I hope you die a virgin fuckhead and I hope that your death is slow, and I hope it occurs soon. David, if you want a chance at me you better come with me if not then I guess you will be fucking Jimmy instead of me. "
Alice then reached into her pocket and dropped the 7 .38 bullets next to the pistol and left the garage walking outside.

Garrage -

Wallace looks to Jimmy. "Don't worry, Boy. It's best to keep on thinking with you're upper head, if you catch my drift. No reason to go chasen' her." he said, Checking the M-14's magazine.

Balcony -

(I'm currently incapable of the rolls, due to a shitty browser. I would like to devide 10 rounds between two ghouls, as mentioned. Sorry about that, Mr. Handy)

Cell Block -

Duke finds himself whisteling "Little Brown Jug", though remaining vidgelant.

Civi-Helo-

"I'm not likeing this" Said Ortega. "Keep you're heads up. don't be closin' those eyes."

(No problem, Stompie. I don't mind making the combat rolls.)

On the motel balcony-
Hockey raked the two zombies at the rear of the pack with ten rounds from his SAW, hitting one with all five bullets and the other with three. Both of the creatures were shredded. They fell, never to rise again.

No more ghouls came out of the grass yet, but the two remaining ones ran closer. The one that Thayer had shot in the head closed to five yards from the southwest stairs, and the other one passed it. It was now underneath the balcony, and only those on the ground could shoot at it.

Captain Lereux leaned over the railing and fired a burst at the slow runner, hitting with only one of the bullets, lightly wounding its left leg. "Why aren't the snipers firing?" he asked. "Sergeant Black, do you copy?" There was no response.

Duran also opened up with a burst. He too hit just once, badly damaging its right leg. But still it kept coming.

(Hockey cannot fire at the zombie attacking those below, as it is underneath the balcony. Neither can anyone else on the balcony or the roof. Someone standing at the top of the stairs could normally fire down them, but right now the people and equipment on the stairs are blocking line of sight - and movement for that matter. He may fire a burst at the almost destroyed zombie that is 5 yards away. Any hits causing a total of 6 or more damage to any locations will finish it, as will 4 or more damage to the head.)

On the motel's roof-
Thayer squeezed off a quick burst at the horribly wounded thing that he had hit earlier, only to miss by a hair. "Dammit to hell!" he shouted.

On the west side of the motel-
The zombie with the massive hole in its belly reached the bottom of the stairs at a rapid clip. It ran straight towards Malanowski. It missed him as it went by, tripping and falling as it tried to bite him.

On the motel stairs-
"Malone here," said Lt. Malone into her microphone as she struggled with the comm gear. "We need backup out here now! There are at least two of them left, badly injured but still attacking. One of them got past everyone and is at the bottom of the stairs."

Zorie Spooner came partway down the stairs and helped her carry the gear. With the aid of Lewis and Mikhalin they were able to get halfway up to the balcony.

In a downstairs motel room-
Cole had just finished assembling the rope ladder when he got Malone's radio message.

(If Cole leaves the room or goes to the door, he will need to roll Sanity. He cannot see or shoot at either zombie from his current location. He will not be able to shoot this round if he moves.)

Between the motel and the T-Bone-
McCain ran as fast as he could, crossing the dirt road that ran north halfway between the two buildings.

At the helicopter-
"Don't worry," Erica Spears told Ortega. "I won't let my guard down." The fuel pump finally exhausted all of the fuel in the first barrel, and she switched it over to the second.

On the roof of the diner-
Azadeh nodded. "The darkness would neutralize the range advantage our rifles give us," she said, "though I'm sure the military has night vision gear. Even so, I wouldn't want to still be here or out in the open when night falls. We've got a good twenty minutes or so before they get into range. If there's something else you need to do in the meantime, you can. Everybody just seems to be milling about doing their own thing, and these people could use a little organization." She called across to Samantha. "I've got a Grease gun and some magazines here for the helicopter pilot! If you can come over here and bring me those extra 5.56mm mags, I'll give them to you." She tied the end of the rope to the handles of the empty bag that the soda bottles had been in and placed the submachinegun and magazines inside it so she could lower it to the ground.

On the roof of the garage-
"Okay!" Samanatha shouted back. She climbed down the ladder.

In the garage-
"I gotta fix the truck so we can go to Idaho, remember?" David called after Alice. "I'll see you after I'm done. If you can't wait that long, it's your loss. There are other ladies who want me."

"You're better off without her anyway," said Jimmy as he resumed working on the truck. "She's a total psycho."

Wallace's rifle magazine was full, and his Grease gun and .357 were fully loaded as well. One of his .357 speedloaders only had three bullets and the other was empty, however. Now that he had some extra bullets, he refilled them.

Outside the garage-
Samanatha reached the bottom of the ladder shortly after Alice came outside. "Oh, good," she said, "you fixed it. We could use some more people with rifles on the roof if you don't have anything else to do."

In the reception area-
"The same to you," Stephanie told Ramirez.

"Before we go," said Lt. Blanco, "I was wondering if you had any ideas about the possible effects of nerve agents on the infected. I've specialized in biology, but I'm afraid my knowledge of chemistry is rather limited."

"I've studied both a great deal, though I've favored biology as well. That's a great idea you had! They're designed to kill a living person, often by stopping the heart, but these creatures are already dead. Still, I think a nerve agent could at least disable them temporarily by shutting down their nervous systems. That would give you more than enough time to shoot or smash their heads. Of course, you'd have to be careful to protect any living people from exposure."

"Thanks," she said. "That could be a great help - if we can get our hands on some nerve agents, that is. I wish you the best." She turned to Ramirez. "Okay, let's go." They walked through the gate and up the stairs.

Baldwin finished cleaning his rifle, and then he, Beth, and Willie followed them. "Don't forget to give Kimberly those extra shells, Joe," said Baldwin as he left.

Once they were gone, Stephanie put the laptop back on the desk. She came to a good stopping point in her work, saved her progress, and then shut down the computer. "I can't believe we're finally going to be on our way," she said, rising.

In the warehouse-
Lt. Blanco and Javier Ramirez walked past Robert and headed towards the stairwell leading back to the surface. Baldwin and Willie were close behind. Beth stood near Robert and waited until he was ready to go, glancing nervously over at him from time to time.

In the kitchen-
Dr. Hausmann and Sally finished putting the splint on Lynne's leg. "Okay, we're done, ja?" said the doctor. "You can wake her up now. Thank you for your help. I have to leave now, and I don't know if we'll ever see each other again, so I suppose this is goodbye."

Kimberly injected Lynne, and she started to stir. "Oh, God, it hurts..." she moaned.

Rosie squeezed her hand. "It's okay," she said. "The rats didn't bite you, or anyone else. They gave you something for the pain already, but I'm afraid your leg's broken.."

"Then I'm lucky it isn't worse. Of all the stupid things..."

"You've got more to worry about than that," said Kimberly. "Would you mind telling me what this-" she held up the suppressor, "-was doing in here?" She held Lynne's purse in her other hand. Lynne gasped.

In the cell block-
Randall looked into the cell and saw the rat munching on the corpse. "Oh, this is bad," he said. "I don't think this one's turned yet, or it would have attacked us, but it's going to. That must have been how the other rats turned into those things, by eating one of them. I'll stay here and take care of it."

"All right," said Gary. He looked at Duke. "There's a locked metal door between us and the generator room. Don't suppose you know how to pick locks, huh?" He rejoined Ellen and led her back to the guard room. "Well, let's go find Mr. Foo."

In the guard room-
Max followed Jim Kerr into the guard room shortly before Ellen and Gary entered from the cell block. "We've hit a dead end for now," said Gary. "There's a locked door in our way, and without Lynne we're going to need to find someone else who can pick the lock. Can you or any of the people with you do it?"

In a downstairs motel room -

Cole grabs his rifle,, making sure it is loaded and runs out to meet the threat.

"Get some!" Cole yells as he sees the beat up zombies, but remains unphased.

On the roof of the diner -

"Watch it, the roof is unstable overthere." Luke warns Azadeh.

"Anyhow, do what in those 20 minutes? If runners come out of the grass, you'll need me up here." he asks "Not much I could do but tell the helo crew to hurry the fuck up, tell the mechanics to work on those trucks faster and to advice the guys downstairs to prepare a makeshift barricade to prepare for the zombies potentially getting through... I already sent someone down to try and get us more shooters up here."

(Not much time at the moment. I'm just going to post for Wallace.)

Garrage

"Woah-Woah-Woah.... Hold yer' horses, their David." said Wallace. "When the fuck did ya'll decide to run off with ma' truck?" he asked. "I'td be nice to be in on the planning for this li'tle Escapade." "And for that matter; Who's idea is this?"

Between the motel and T-Bone:
McCain continued to run toward the sound of fire. He got on his radio, "Sir, I will be there very soon. Cpl Cole, how is the laddar and barricade coming? That is your job solider so do it!"

On the motel steps:
Lewis thought about pulling his pistol and firing away but he decided that the gear was more important so he continued to slowly move it up the stairs sweating in the summer heat.

Outside the garage:
Alice paused for a minute and leaned at the door of the garage. "David, you will not be going to my folks place if you do not get your skinny dick out her right now. Stop sucking up to Jimmy and get your ass in gear. If you do not come here right now then there is no point in fiixing the truck since you are going nowhere." She then climed the ladder to the roof.

On the roof of the garage:
Going over to the edge of the roof and lying down with her rifle at the ready she asked, "Hey does anyone have a grenade that I can throw at the zombies if need be or if I run out of bullets I can pull the pin to and then jump on it to keep myself from being eaten alive by those creatures?"

In the guard room:
Jim shook his head and said, "No I don't know how to shoot locks off but maybe I can learn or we could just shoot the lock off? Hey, you have to read this journal that I found. I think it will tell you alot about the project and this facility. Maybe there is even a key hidden somewhere for that door that the diary tells about?"

Garage

Wallace heads towards the Doorway. "This one's you're idea?" he asks, peeking out, at Alice. "What the hell kinda' crap-chute are you plan'n?" He asked, Both Puzzled, and agrovated.

In the warehouse-
"We should try to see if
Warren can give them any support."

In the reception area-
"Will do." He calls

On the motel balcony-
Hockey swiveled the barrel of his SAW, pointing it downwards at the ghoul and spraying ten bullets at it as it passed underneath. The burst hit it with only one round, but it was enough to take down the creature.

He didn't get a chance to relax, however. While no more runners came out of the grass yet, a pack of five coyotes sprang from the grass and quickly bounded across the open ground towards the motel, quickly closing to within ten yards. Their eyes were the color of blood, blood that dripped from their gaping mouths.

"No!" cried Captain Lereux, shocked by the sight. Panic threatened to seize him, but he barely maintained his grip on himself. He fired a burst at the lead coyote with uncanny accuracy, hitting with two bullets and wounding it grievously - but the creature was still coming.

Duran screamed in fright, disturbed by the terrible vision coming towards him at incredible speed. He opened fire as well, and he too had perfect aim, adrenaline coursing through him and bestowing him with almost superhuman ability. Two of his shots struck home on a second dog, punching through its gut and nearly killing it. Nearly wasn't quite good enough, however.

(Hockey, roll Sanity. If you succeed, you may fire up to 20 bullets in all at either a single coyote or divided between the two that Malone wounded. Remember that there is a -15% penalty to hit them in the first place, leaving his base chance to hit at 65%. I'd forgotten to include it in the notes for Lereux's and Duran's shots, but they both rolled a 1 anyway. There is also a +5% bonus for each bullet beyond the first on a particular target. A burst of 6 or more would give him the maximum chance to hit of 90%. The first one has 10 HP remaining, and the second has only 2 HP left. 40 or more damage is a guaranteed kill on the fifth one. The coyotes are spread out as well, so he can only hit two of them with the burst, and these two are at the ones that Malone wounded. The first of those has 10 HP left, and the second has 14 HP left and has also taken 4 damage to the head. If he shoots at one of the first two badly wounded coyotes or the unharmed one, he cannot also target any of the others. As before, I can make the rolls for you if you tell me how you want to distribute the bullets.)

On the motel's roof-
Thayer fired a burst at the dogs, but they were moving too fast for him to hit. He cursed a blue streak, his muscles tightening and his face twitching.

Both snipers still lay on the roof with their eyes closed, oblivious to the nightmare unfolding below.

On the west side of the motel-
Cole emerged from the motel room just in time to see the coyotes burst from the grass and the zombie on the ground lunge at Malanowski a second time. It grabbed him by the ankle, dragging the sobbing man down and almost wrapping its arms around him. He ignored the coyotes if he noticed them at all and managed to wriggle free, however. Phillips wailed, his eyes bulging when he saw the coyotes, but could not move to help.

(Cole, roll Sanity again. If you remain sane, you have one round to act before the coyotes reach the motel and can attack. If you attack, you cannot also Dodge or parry with the rifle. If you move, you can still do both and you should roll a few Dodge rolls and one Parry roll in advance - using Rifle skill - just in case. Remember that your body armor gives a -10% penalty to Dodge. You cannot retreat all the way up the stairs because of the people and equipment on it, but you could retreat most of the way up.

The coyotes are too close to use a hand grenade, as Cole and other friendlies would be within the blast radius. There is also no time for a precision aimed shot with the rifle, so you can only hit the head by chance. You can fire the M203, but it is still risky. If you undershoot, you may catch yourself and/or others in the blast. Base chance to hit is 25%, but it is doubled to 50% for firing at the ground near the targets. If you miss you may still damage them; I'll let you know. You can target the ground between the two coyotes that Malone shot below and do 3d6 to each of them if you hit - these are the same two that Hockey could shoot at together. You can also target the ground between the other two nearly destroyed coyotes and do 1d6 damage to one and 2d6 damage to another if you hit.)

On the motel stairs-
Lt. Malone's steadfast resolve finally crumbled when she saw the coyotes coming. She screamed in terror, with certain knowledge that all was now lost. Releasing the comm gear, she unshouldered her MP-5 and opened fire on the coyotes, determined to go out in a blaze of glory. Her madness also fueled her shooting abilities to astounding levels as she hosed down two of them with a hail of lead. Five rounds hit one creature, one of them blowing through its chest, and four hit another. The first coyote was severely damaged, and one of its legs was crippled. The second was hit in the stomach, as well as the head and leg. Both were slowed down, but not stopped.

Mikhalin remained steady, and so did Zorie Spooner. However, they were hard pressed to hold onto the gear and keep it from tumbling down the stairs.

(Lewis, roll Sanity. Since you've lost 3 Sanity recently from seeing zombies, treat any loss of more than 7 points as 7. If you stay sane, roll STR x 5 to try to keep the equipment from falling.)

Between the motel and the T-Bone-
McCain kept running, and had covered about two-thirds of the distance to the motel. He could hear the screams and the gunfire. Though he could not see what was happening on the other side of the motel, he knew it was bad.

At the helicopter-
"I'm going to go round up my passengers," said Erica Spears to Ortega. "Take care of yourself." She jogged towards the garage.

Outside the garage-
"There are a bunch of grenades in that crate down in the basement!" Samantha called up to Alice. "If you're going to blow yourself up, though, try to make sure none of us are nearby." She ran around the north side of the diner as Erica neared the garage door.

In the garage-
"We weren't going to take your truck, Wallace," said David as he worked. "We were all planning to evacuate as a group, and we thought you'd come with us. Yeah, it was Alice's idea to head for her parents' ranch up in Idaho. She mapped out a route earlier. She's not the boss of me, though. Plenty of other fish in the sea. Well, not so many now, but still enough for me. We don't have to go to Idaho if she doesn't want us to. I'm sure there are other places we could head that are closer. Got anywhere in mind?"

The others also continued repairing the truck.

On the roof of the diner-
"Thanks," said Azadeh, lowering the bag slowly over the edge of the roof, "I'm aware that it's unstable. That's why I asked Samantha to come over here on the ground, so I don't have to cross the roof. If it broke underfoot, the fall could kill me in my condition.

"I could work on the truck myself, since I am an engineer, but I'm also one of the best shooters we've got. It would be best if I'm up here when those things come into range. Good thinking on the barricade, though. Maybe we can construct some kind of hatch that we can open and close as needed. I'll tell Samantha about it when she gets here."

In the warehouse-
"Yes, I agree," Lt. Blanco told Ramirez. "Once the comm gear is up and running again, we need to ask Warren to send more supplies for these people as well as for ourselves. Additional personnel would be nice too, if they can spare them." The two of them started up the stairs, and Baldwin and Willie went after them.

Robert looked over at Beth. "Hey, you okay?" he asked. "You seem a little nervous."

"Yeah," she said, hugging herself. "I guess I'm just kind of scared, that's all."

"Hey, we're going to make it through this."

"If you say so."

In the cell block-
"One dead rat, coming up," said Duke. He took aim at the rat and fired, but the bullet struck the concrete floor harmlessly.

The rat squeaked with alarm and bolted for the hole, staggering a little as it went. "Ah, crap," said Randall, bringing up his own rifle and taking a shot. He nailed it perfectly, blowing its guts out and stopping it cold. "Got 'im." He called down the hall. "It's okay, just killing a rat as a precaution!"

In the guard room-
"I thought of shooting the lock," said Gary, "but it's too risky. We think Mr. Foo might be able to pick the lock, though, so we're on our way to ask him. We need to get the power hooked up fast so the food doesn't go bad, so we don't have time to read that diary at the moment. Maybe you should show it to the others. Have you found any keys?" He and Ellen proceeded into the hallway.

(Jim Kerr, roll Idea about the ring of twelve keys you found earlier in the guard room.)

In the kitchen-
"Well?" said Kimberly.

Lynne's eyes narrowed. "What were you doing going through my purse?" she asked.

"I was putting your gun in there after you dropped it, for safe keeping, when I happened to see this. Now quit changing the subject and tell me what you're doing with it!"

"Look, it isn't mine, okay?"

"Then why was it in your purse?"

Lynne sighed. "It belonged to that Azadeh woman. I found it in her purse."

"And what were you doing going through her purse?"

"I was looking for some ID to find out who she was, when I happened to see it," she said, imitating Kimberly's tone.

"And you didn't tell anyone you'd found it?"

"I was going to, honest! It just slipped my mind and I got distracted. Rosie, you know what a scatterbrain I am."

"Well, that's true," said Rosie.

"Maybe," said Kimberly, "or maybe you just wanted to steal it. Either way, I believe you. I'm going to go have a word with Azadeh. Anyone know where she is?" She returned the purse, but kept the suppressor.

"I think she was in the warehouse earlier," said Rosie. "Come on, Lynne, let's get you out of here before more hungry rats show up." She and Sally helped Lynne up from the table.

"Where's Duke?" asked Lynne. "Is he okay?"

"He's fine," said Kimberly. "The others are fine too. Nobody got bitten." She walked out into the hall, following Dr. Hausmann.

In the hallway-
Gary and Ellen made their way through the hall. "Mr. Foo!" called Ellen. "Do you know how to pick a lock, by any chance?"

Dr. Hausmann and Kimberly returned to the reception area.

In the reception area-
"As a matter of fact, I can," replied Mr. Foo. He shook hands with Stephanie. "I wish you the best of luck, Miss Bridges, and to all your companions."

"To you as well," said Stephanie. "Thank you again for everything." She put the power cord for the computer in one of her lab coat's many pockets, then closed the laptop and wrapped it back up with the foil. Since it would look funny if she were walking around with her hand under her coat, she slipped it off of her shoulders and folded it around the computer. Underneath it she wore a pair of gray slacks and a sleeveless black blouse with a deep V-neck.

"Wow," said Bo.

Stephanie blushed. "I, uh, had brought this to Cheyenne for a conference," she said. "There's a jacket that goes with it, but I ended up leaving it behind. I was in a hurry and just grabbed the first clothes within reach."

"Well, you certainly made a great choice."

Mrs. Foo nodded. "You very pretty lady, Missy Stephanie," she said. "Goodbye and stay safe."

Jenny went up to Stephanie and hugged her. "I'm sure going to miss you," she said. "You're so awesome. I don't know what we'll do without you."

"Oh, I think you'll manage just fine, Jenny," said Stephanie, patting her on the back. "I didn't know until this morning what I was capable of. You've got what it takes too." She checked to make sure the lab coat's pockets were secured, and then picked up the bundle with the computer and tucked it under her arm. "I'm ready to go, Brigetta."

"I'll do my best," Jenny said. She helped Mr. Foo into the hallway. "I'll go with you. I want to see what's down here."

Gary walked into the room and approached Bo. "This rifle belonged to one of your people?" he asked.

"Ja," said Dr. Hausmann. "That was Sean's. Can we have it back before we go?"

"Well, it isn't really mine, so okay. I don't like the idea of not having a gun, though. Does anyone else have a long arm I can use?"

"You can have this shotgun, I guess," said Kerry. "I don't really like guns anyway, to tell the truth."

"All right, thanks." Gary gave Bo the Marlin and his extra .444 ammo, and then took the shotgun and shells from Kerry.

"I could use some 12 gauge shells myself," said Kimberly. "I'm down to my last seven. Lynne's going to be okay. I found this in her purse when she was unconscious." She held up the silencer. "She told me she took it from Azadeh. Anyone seen her?"

"Azadeh went upstairs with me," said Kerry. "She climbed up onto the roof. Is she in trouble?"

At the garage -

Bob continues to work on the truck, once again focused after the banshee left the garage.

On the roof of the diner -

"I think for the moment we need all the rifles we can get up here..." Luke replies to Azadeh while intently peering into the plains in front of him "Besides, in your condition I'd say you're best not running around too much, let alone possibly having to dodge these zombie fuckers on the ground..."

"Still, I saw you handle that rifle well out there, where did you learn to shoot like that?" he asks "Impressive by any standards, not just that of an engineer..."

OCC - Cole's post will follow when Handy gets back to me on my PM

Outside the motel -

"Oh fuck..." Cole whispers as he tries to oversee the situation. Luckily he keeps his cool, but he realises drastic action has to be taken.

"Coyotes on top of us, need backup! NOW!" he barks into his radio. How ironic... Coyotes are what he and his friends called "Self-Erecting Targets" when they went hunting. It appears that now he himself has now become the target.

"Fire in the hole!" he shouts, as his finger moves towards the trigger of the M203 launcher.

Before his grenade even hits, he is already gripping and aiming his rifle firmly to fire at the inbound threat, hoping that the grenade will buy him some time. Plugging zombies is one thing, but stopping a swarm of fast moving coyotes at close range without taking a bite?

His grenade hits between the closest group of that he thinks he can hit with relative safety to himself and the others on the stairs.

OCC - Handy, you can roll a Military Science 58% on that if you want. I'd pick the closest dangerous group he can hit without excessive danger to himself, but which group that would be is unclear from the described scene. Of course, it'd be best if it was not the group that Hockey will be firing on, but I don't think Cole can know that from where he's standing.

I'll also leave the damage roll to you ;)
