Walkers from the east: 7 dead, 1 with 9 damage to head, 1 with 8 damage to head
Walkers from the west: 5 dead

On the west side of the motel-
Duran hastily climbed the ladder to the balcony while Thayer waited his turn. Ramirez finished donning Cole's body armor and helmet.

In the medic's room-
Dr. Blanco and Zorie Spooner helped Phillips finish treating his wounded arm. Then they turned to Malanowski. "Okay, let's look you over," said Blanco. "Are you injured? Did it bite you, or break your skin?"

"No, ma'am," he answered. "I was extremely lucky. I didn't even know what I was doing, but my instincts and training took over and protected me."

On the motel balcony-
Duran nodded to McCain when he reached the top of the ladder and clambered onto the balcony. "Thayer's on his way, Sergeant. Where do you want us positioned?"

Ortega continued to track the distant movement in the grass while Hockey peered out across the field on the other end of the balcony. "There they are," said Hockey. "Can't see them clearly enough to shoot yet, though, and the range is a bit long."

In the comm room-
"Yes, please do, Airman Lewis," said Lt. Malone. "Mikhalin, why don't you see what's coming in off the teletype?"

"Yes, ma'am," said Mikhalin, reviewing the messages. "Tallinn and Riga were nuked at 1111 hours, shortly after we started dismantling the gear, followed by Kiev two minutes later. Looks like these messages were stored in the buffer until we reinitialized."

Lewis was also able to confirm these detonations, and that no further nuclear blasts had been detected as of yet. Cities in Europe and Africa were being further overrun.

"That's good news on the nuclear front - relatively speaking," said Lt. Malone when he reported this. She relayed this information back to Lt. Colonel Carmichael. "I believe our successful efforts to get through to NATO HQ are responsible for convincing governments in Europe not to use nuclear weapons. There is something that may be useful as a shelter, sir. Two of our people visited the diner earlier and entered a secret facility deep underground that could perhaps be used as a fallout shelter."

"Thank you, Lieutenant," said Carmichael. "Excellent work. Can you try to reach NATO HQ again?"

"Will do, sir. I'll get back to you with any intelligence I can obtain." She contacted NATO HQ in Brussels again. "NATO HQ, this is Lt. Elizabeth Malone again. Do you read me? Over."

There was no response yet.

On the motel's roof-
"I'm on it, Sergeant McCain," replied Sam Black over the radio as he crossed back to the west side of the roof and set up his Barrett. He scanned the field of grass at the range that the men on the balcony below had indicated, "We've got incoming!" he shouted. "Moving slowly east at a range of approximately 1000 yards, ETA 8 minutes. There are at least 70 of them, maybe 75." He began firing, scoring five hits out of five, obliterating all of their heads. "Scratch five hostiles!"

Sheen whistled as he searched the field. "Wish I could have seen it, Sarge," he said. "Where did you say they were?"

Outside the garage-
Joe Barring had been standing in shock at the sight of the ghoul that had attacked Wallace, but he had now mostly recovered. He hurried inside the garage.

In the garage-
Joe closed the garage door securely behind him. "They're coming," he said. "I'm going to get some ammo and then head downstairs to join Kimberly."

"Maybe it would be better if you stayed in the garage," said Gary. "If any of those things get inside, you and your shotgun could be the only things standing between us and them. There's a .38 on the floor with some bullets that nobody's using, if you want to bring it downstairs."

Joe nodded. "They're still a little ways off. If I hurry I can go downstairs and get back up before they arrive." He picked up the discarded revolver and bullets.

On the roof of the garage-
Baldwin continued to stare blankly at the oncoming horde, which was now starting to be gradually diminished.

On the roof of the diner-
"Hey, not bad," said Azadeh as Luke began to shoot. Two went down for good, and one more fell but still crawled forward, falling behind the rest of them. Azadeh opened up on the ghouls herself, landing two hits. Both fell, their skulls blasted clean through.

Samantha also started shooting, landing two hits as well. Both were kills.

(Luke may make five more shots at half skill.)

On the east side of the diner-
Wallace arrived as Willie was climbing back up the ladder to the roof.

"I'm going to need to borrow this ladder to get up on top of the garage with Baldwin," said Wallace. "Once I'm up there, I can start laying down some more fire."

In the helicopter-
"We're coming up on Chappell now," said Erica Spears, indicating an urban area rapidly getting closer. The small town rested near the shore of the Lodgepole Lake.

In the warehouse-
Michael remained at his post, listening to the conversation downstairs to pass the time.

In the reception area-
"I wonder what's keeping Joe?" asked Kimberly. "He should have been down here by now."

In the cell block-
Sally and Rosie helped Randall hobble back to the guard room, while Duke entered the shower room on his way to the hatch.

In the upper chamber-
Ellen looked nervously down the shaft again, wondering what was going on below.

In the quarters-
"I don't think she's one of those creatures," said Mr. Foo. "She does seem to somehow be alive. No sign of injury. Besides, if she were one of the creatures, she'd easily be able to break the glass."

The woman in the capsule kept hitting the glass with the flats of her palms. "It looks like she's suffocating in there!" cried Jenny. "Shouldn't we let her out?"

On the roof of the diner -

"Silence, woman! That silky voice of yours is breaking my concentration..." Luke grunts as he misses his next volley, more angry at himself than at Azadeh.

In the helicopter -

The co-pilot is growing more & more ill at ease at the tought of flying into a city, but he tries not to show his doubts.

On the southwest corner of the motel, balcony level:
McCain thought for a quick second about where to put Duran and Thayer. Looking around he came up with good spots for both and told them where to go. He then walked to the balcony and prepared to fire his M-4 upon any target that he saw.

In the upstairs communication room:
Lewis stood up from the computer and said, "Lt. Malone, may I take the good captain here to another room and have him placed in isolation and watched since he is of no further use to us?"

In the quarters:
While Alice continued to stand guard on the quarter room, Jim said, "I think that we should simply open up the lid and kill this person. She seems to be in pain and will soon die and she may be infected which will compromise this team. I will do the task if needed." As he said this he pulled out his .44 Magnum Revolver .

OOC: I'd wanted to update sooner, but I haven't had much sleep or free time during the week. I hope to update again this weekend and go to two updates per week if that's okay with you guys.

Walkers from the east: 10 dead, 1 with 9 damage to head , 1 with 8 damage to head
Walkers from the west: 11 dead

IC:
On the west side of the motel-
Thayer followed Duran up the ladder to the balcony, while Ramirez moved to the bottom of the ladder for his turn to climb back up.

In the comm room-
"I'm far from useless," said Captain Lereux. "I can still make a good spotter, and if you give me a weapon I can take out those hostiles."

"There's no way in hell you're getting a weapon," said Lt. Malone. "I'm placing you in Sergeant McCain's custody. He can put you where he wants you. Lewis, I still need you here."

Lereux stepped outside the room, grumbling under his breath.

Malone got on her radio. "Lt. Blanco, I need you and Zorie Spooner up on the balcony ASAP. If you give Malanowski a clean bill of health he can go wherever McCain wants him, but be absolutely certain. Phillips must remain on ground level." She tried the communications gear again. "Say again: NATO HQ, this is Lt. Malone. Do you copy? Over."

After another pause, Captain Miranda Reynolds replied, fear and desperation evident in her voice. "About bloody time!" she yelled. "We've been calling you for ages!"

"We had to relocate communications to higher ground, ma'am, and there was a mishap when we were attacked in transit. What's your situation?"

"We're buggered, that's our situation! The perimeter's been overrun, and this place is crawling with those...things. The only two of us left in here are me and the major, and he got bit when they breached the door. The room is secure and barricaded now, but the rest of this facility is compromised. Everyone else is busy on defense, and there's not many of them left either." Sporadic gunfire could be heard in the background, as if to accentuate her point. "We did manage to transmit your warning about the use of nuclear weapons before that happened, though."

"That's good to hear, ma'am. We've detected no further detonations in the last 40 minutes or so, so it seems to have worked."

"Well, at least we accomplished something good. Look, I think we've got at most ten minutes left before they find their way in here. Maybe less. If there's anything you want to say to me, I suggest you do it now."

In the medic's room-
"You look all right to me, Malanowski," said Lt. Blanco after examining him. "Not a single bite mark, only superficial bruises."

"I think you're good to go too," said Zorie. "I don't want to leave you down here anyway. You barely survived last time. If any of them get through...I don't want to leave Steve here either."

"The lieutenant was right," said Phillips, standing up and hobbling over towards the door, using his rifle as a crutch. "I'm royally screwed anyway. At least I can take some of them out with me. Go on, get out of here."

Zorie lowered her head. "Good luck. In case I never see you again, I wish...I wish things could have been different." She followed Lt. Blanco and Malanowski outside.

On the motel balcony-
McCain sent Duran to join Hockey at the northwest corner while ordering Thayer to join Ortega at the southwest corner. This way they could bring all of their fire to bear on the west, while also guarding the western staircases and having the ability to cover the north and south flanks as well as to respond quickly to any threat from the east. This also kept members of the same fire teams together, and they were used to working with each other. He realized that it would also be a good idea to send at least one man up to the roof with the snipers to allow him a 360 degree field of fire. While Malone had wanted Ramirez to join her in the comm room, Malanowski was available to be deployed. McCain could also make it to the roof himself if he used the zipline to descend to the parking lot, though this would take a little time and he would not get as many shots off before the enemy arrived. Lereux could also go up to the roof and act as a spotter, though without a weapon he would not be able to shoot.

Captain Lereux emerged from the communications room. "Where do you want me, Sergeant?" he asked.

Hockey and Ortega kept tracking the movement in the grass, though it was still a bit too far away for them to make anything out clearly.

On the motel's roof-
"There they are, Sheen," said Sergeant Black, pointing out the location of the zombies. He continued firing, only scoring three hits out of five this time. The head of one ghoul was turned into a fine red mist, and the other two didn't fare much better. "Three more down."

"Now that I saw!" said Bobby Sheen. "Targets acquired." He opened fire with his M-24. "Yeah! Three hits, three kills!"

On the roof of the garage-
Baldwin kept standing where he was, slack-jawed.

On the east side of the diner-
Willie climbed back onto the roof and hauled up the rope with the bag of ammo on the end. He placed it at Azadeh's feet and positioned himself near her. "Here ya go," he said, watching the horde get closer.

Azadeh stifled a laugh and fired the last four bullets in her clip, but all of her shots missed too. "You know, I wish you had taken the lead in our little competition just now," she said. "There's still over 90 of them left. I've got a bad feeling about this." She picked up the bag of ammo and reloaded her M1 Garand. "Thanks, Willie."

Samantha reloaded the sniper rifle and took three shots, one of which hit and slew its target.

(Luke may take another five shots at half skill.)

In the garage-
"You guys may need to leave the truck and come downstairs too if too many of them get past the snipers," said Joe Barring. "I'll cover your six if that happens." He exits through the interior door and heads for the rear exit.

On the east side of the diner-
Wallace took the ladder and hurried back around the north side of the diner.

Joe emerged from the back door and headed for the ammo crates.

In the helicopter-
Chappell grew larger as the helicopter approached it and passed it from the south. Dr. Hausmann looked out her window and could see single zombies and the occasional pack roaming the cluttered streets. There wasn't a trace of human life left.

"I hope Omaha isn't this bad off," said Erica Spears, echoing Bob's unspoken dread.

"It should still be okay by the time we get there," said the doctor, "provided there are no more delays. If our mission does not succeed, we are all doomed anyway."

"Good thing you've got such a cheery disposition, doc." She flew past Lodgepole Lake and a golf course that surrounded it. Below them, beside I-80, was a small airfield where more of the undead prowled. "That's Billy G. Ray field down there. Even if it hadn't been overrun, we still haven't burned enough fuel to have enough capacity to get us all the way to Omaha."

In the warehouse-
Michael watched the stairs, hoping that Joe would come down soon - and that nothing else would.

In the reception area-
"Maybe something happen?" said Mrs. Foo. "I'm sure he all right. He big, strong man."

"I hope so," said Lynne. "Plenty of big, strong men didn't make it."

In the guard room-
Sally, Rosie, and Randall walked through the guard room and into the hall leading back to the reception area.

In the prisoners' common area-
Duke entered from the shower room and headed towards the door to the hatch chamber. "Hello?" he called.

In the upper hatch chamber-
"Hey there!" shouted Ellen. "You heading downstairs to join the others?"

In the quarters-
Jenny looked appalled at Jim Kerr's suggestion. "We can't just kill her!" she cried.

Mr. Foo put a hand on her shoulder. "Easy there, Miss Cooper," he said. "While he does have a point, we shouldn't just kill her out of hand. She may possess valuable information that she could pass on to us, after all. If she is infected or something, we can still shoot her. I'll try to pop the lock. The rest of you cover me."

He deftly picked the lock, then raised his MP-5 and opened the glass lid. The woman within stopped flailing her arms and calmed down. They dropped to her sides and she lay still, apparently unconscious.

OOC:

That is ok with me. I am currently working for a special census of my city but I should be able to post up for my characters early this evening so you can update by say 8PM your time if not sooner. Also two times per week works for me.

IC:
On the southwest corner of the motel, balcony level:
Sgt McCain got on his radio and said, "Malanowski climb up to the roof and help them out either taking out the creatures or as a spotter, your choice." He then turned to Captain Lereux and said, "Stick by my side and become my little shadow. If you are good I will let you have a weapon when the creatures get here, if not I will personally stick you in a room with Phillips. Is that understood, sir?"

In the quarters:
Alice screamed when the figure stopped moving. Jim kept his weapon trained on it and slowly advanced. "Should we try to wake her?" Alice thought for a minute and said, "Mr. Foo do you think those things are in all these rooms and if so should not someone go look?"

On the roof of the diner -

"Whatever you say, darlin'." Luke smiles as he dispatches 2 zombies and severly wounds another (8dmg).

But then the rifle makes a dry *click*.

"Oh, for fucks sake, not now!" Luke grunts as he racks the bolt handle and tries to eject the misfired round.

occ: what are the failure drills again?

OOC: Walkers from the east: 11 dead, 1 with 9 damage to head, 3 with 8 damage to head
Walkers from the west: 15 dead

IC:
On the west side of the motel-
Ramirez scaled the ladder to the balcony as Malanowski and the doctors emerged from the motel room and made their way over.

"You two better hurry up after him," said Malanowski. "Sarge, I'm on my way up to the roof now! See you later. I've got things to kill." He jogged off around the south side of the motel.

Phillips stood in the doorway of the room he had just left. "I'll just stand here and shoot 'em as they come until they get me," he said. "Can't think of any other bright ideas." He brought up his rifle and scanned the field. "Targets acquired. Still a bit far for me to start shooting, though."

On the motel balcony-
"Understood, Sergeant," said Captain Lereux. He looked out over the field. "Can't see anything yet."

(McCain, roll Spot Hidden, with a -5% penalty due to your helmet. If you succeed, you may shoot at the zombies, though at this range your skill would be 1/4 of normal, with an additional -5% penalty for aiming at the head applied after your skill is reduced. Thus, your chance to hit for each shot would be only 13%.)

Thayer looked out into the field in the direction Ortega had indicated. "Oh, yeah," he said, "I see them. Less than half a mile off and closing slowly. In a couple more minutes, they'll be in range for us."

Duran also surveyed the swaying grass to the west of the motel, "I've got a visual on them too," he says. "Hockey, you might be able to hit them at this range, but I can't."

(Hockey, you saw the zombies earlier and don't need to roll Spot Hidden. If you want to open fire, you have five combat rounds. You may fire up to 20 bullets per round from your SAW, divided freely among multiple targets each round if you wish. There are 71 bullets in your currently loaded belt. You have a spare belt on you, and reloading will take one combat round. There are also additional belts in the ammo crate. If you fire it, you will be at half skill, and you cannot aim at the head and must use random hit locations. 40 or more damage to any one zombie will kill it, as will 10 or more damage that happens to hit the head. If you don't want to make all of these rolls, just tell me how to group the bursts and I'll do the rolling. If I don't hear from you before the next update, I'll keep playing him for you.

Ortega, you have also already spotted the zombies and may shoot up to five times at 1/4 skill, with the -5% penalty for a head shot applied afterwards, which would only give you an 11% chance to hit if you choose to fire. )

In the comm room-
"We've heard a report that electrical shocks stop them cold, ma'am," said Lt. Malone. "Not sure how accurate the source was, but at this point you've got little left to lose. You might want to pass that along too. Other than that, good luck."

"Right, thanks, Leftenant," replied Captain Miranda Reynolds. "I'm going to take out as many of these wankers as I can before I go down." Screams could be heard in the background. "Oh, bugger, gotta go. Good luck to you too!" The call was disconnected.

"Who should we contact next?" asked Mikhalin. "We might want to see if that Goldberg guy in Hawaii is still among the living. Or we could try to contact the CDC in Omaha. With Lt. Blanco and her assistant coming up to join us, I'm sure they'll want to share information."

On the motel's roof-
Black and Sheen kept sniping at the zombies. Black reloaded and then fired four times, hitting three of them. All of his hits are very lethal. Sheen got off two shots, but only scored a single hit, slaying his target.

Outside the garage-
Wallace arrived at the sealed garage door. He leaned the ladder against the wall next to it and began to climb to the roof.

On the roof of the garage-
Baldwin remained in his stupor.

On the roof of the diner-
It took Luke a while, but eventually he managed to clear the jam. Meanwhile, Azadeh continued to shoot, missing most of her shots, and the one that hit failed to finish off the zombie. Samantha also kept up her barrage of lead, firing twice more before she reloaded. Unfortunately, both shots missed. "This isn't good," she muttered, opening up a fresh box of ammo. "Hey, Joe!" she called down. "There's no way in hell we're going to stop them all in time! Tell those mechanics to either get above or below, and the people downstairs to get ready, but hurry!"

(Luke will spend the all five of the rounds available to finish unjamming his rifle.)

On the east side of the diner-
"I'm on it!" shouted Joe Barring. He stuffed a dozen .45 magazines in his pockets and hustled back inside.

In the garage-
Joe burst in, out of breath. "Guys, we've got a problem! There's still about 90 of them left, and they'll be here in five minutes and change! If you stay here working on the truck you'll get eaten. Up or down, your choice, but make it snappy!"

In the helicopter-
"Don't worry, Brigetta," said Stephanie. "We're going to make it. We can do this."

Dr. Hausmann patted her shoulder. "I am glad for your optimism, Stephanie."

Bo watched Stephanie's long, slim fingers race across the keyboard with speed and precision. He couldn't make any sense out of what was on the computer screen, but he knew that she did and that it was extremely important. If anyone can save the world, he thought, it's her. He turned his attention away from the computer and back to Stephanie, smiling at her, though she was too busy to notice.

The chopper left Chappell behind and flew over the intersection of I-80 and Route 385. "Next town of any size is Big Springs," said Erica, "but it'll be a few minutes before we reach it." Far below, small groups of zombies prowled the highway, though not anywhere near as many as had been in Chappell.

In the warehouse-
"Joe!" Michael called upstairs. "Can you hear me?"

In the reception area-
"I hope he's all right too," said Kimberly. "If he's not, we're all in trouble."

Rosie and Sally steered Randall into the reception area, where he sat on the floor. "What did we miss?" asked Rosie.

"Something's keeping Joe," said Lynne. "I've got a really, really bad feeling."

Randall groaned and looked up at Kimberly. "I guess I'm in the club now, huh?" he said, indicating his wounded foot. "Just wish I were immune too."

"So do I," said Kimberly, placing a hand on his shoulder.

In the upper hatch chamber-
Duke sauntered into the room. "Yeah, I'd like to see what's down there," he told Ellen Cody.

"So would I," she said, "but someone has to stay on guard duty. I hope Mr. Foo is okay down there."

"I could check on him for you and look after him."

Ellen smiled. "Thanks, man. We can't call the lift up, since they might need it for a quick getaway. There's a ladder going down, though."

In the quarters-
"It would make sense for the other seven chambers to be like this one," said Mr. Foo. "They might not all be occupied, however. I don't hear any more beeping. This machine stopped once I opened the lid. I don't like the idea of splitting the group, so maybe we should wait until we're done here."

"Well, I'm going to try to wake her," said Jenny, nudging the woman in the capsule. There was no response. Her chest continued to rise and fall, but slower now. "Oh no! I think she's dying!" Jenny felt her wrist to check for a pulse. "There's no pulse, and her wrist is so cold! It's like she's already dead - like she's been that way for a long time! You don't think she's..."

"If she were one of them," said Mr. Foo, "she would have tried to eat us already." Nonetheless, he kept his weapon trained on her.

"Stephanie would know what to do if she were here - but she's got much more important things to deal with."

"This is important too, I think. How did this woman get here? Who is she? Why would she have been locked in? How are her lungs still moving?"

On the Southwest corner of the motel, balcony level:
McCain shielded his eyes and looked out into the field to see if he saw the creatures. To his surprise he did see the creatures.
But they were way too far away and it would take an extremly lucky shot for him to hit them at all. Clutching his rifle he decided to wait for now hoping that they got closer. He now got on the radio and stated, "Okay people listen up, I have come up with some ideas that may help us with the creatues. We will need a runner to go over to tell the civilians the ideas once I have articulated them. If no one has a problem with him I volunteer Captain Lereux who will go unarmed! Anyway: 1) The T-bone needs to be abandoned due to past structrual damage. It is possible that a horde of these creatures may either claw the structure down given enough time or given enough creatures may be able to climb over the bodies of their own dead and get on top. Anyway that structure does not look safe and so if Lt. Malone agrees I think we should order the civilians away from that building as a safety precaution. 2) We have walking undead and these tend to move very slow. So I think that where we currently are at we have range problems. We should come down from this balcony and approach to a decent range and then retreat staying out of range of these creatures but killing them as they come. Our last stand should be right here. 3) These creatures seem to be going after the closest available target. So we need to get the civilians involved. Get them on a truck along with a few of our men and charge the enemy which may cause them to switch direction. Then we can hit them from the side. 4) We need traps, booby traps, pits, obstructions built out in those fields. We can then lead them to these places. We have enough ammo and enough time and we can use thier numbers against them. Finally 5) We should use fire. They do burn and if we can light them up from far away they will die in the flames. We need to use gas plus some kind of sticky flamable substance to make sure they stay on fire. That is all." McCain then turned to Lereux and said, "Go down and get the leader of the civilizans to meet me in the parking lot between the buildings." Back on the radio he said, "Men that cannot hit any targets now, assemble on me. We are taking the fight to these creatures!"

In the communication room:
Lewis heard the communication and he agreed. However he also knew his place was in this room. He could use a weapon but only as a last resort. In the silence that followed McCain's radio talk he said, "Lt. Malone, I think we should try to call up Goldberg in Hawaii. If he is still alieve he may know something more!"

In the underground quarters:
Alice nodded her head about staying. Jim spit on the ground in anger and said, "What in the heck are we staying here for? Shoot this potential zombie and lets get moving on!"

OOC: Walkers from the east: 12 dead, 2 with 9 damage to head, 3 with 8 damage to head
Walkers from the west: 21 dead

IC:
On the motel balcony-
"I'll gladly go coordinate with the civilians, Sergeant," said Captain Lereux. "There's a bunch of hostiles coming from the east too, and I've got just enough time to get there." He jogged around the south side of the balcony and reached the zipline. He looped a strap over it and slid down to the parking lot below without incident.

Ramirez entered the communications room.

Hockey swapped out his SAW's belt for a full one, then darted back to the ammo crate to grab the extra belts, looping them around his body. "Better to get these while I've got the chance," he said, hurrying back to his position.

"Sarge," said Duran, "those things will be here in five minutes. Most of us have M-16s, and we can start shooting them in a minute or so at long range. With your M-4, they should be in range for you pretty soon too. It took us a while just to climb up here, and I'm not sure how we'd get down there quickly, either. There's only the one ladder, and the docs are coming up. The zipline's clear on the other side of the motel, and anyone who jumps down is liable to get injured. Besides, we'd never get back up in time. Maybe for the next bunch we can have a forward guard, set some more Claymores, and dig some pits, but I don't think there's time now." He replaced his magazine with a full one, as did Thayer, who also took a single round out of an almost empty magazine and slipped it into his partial one.

On the west side of the motel-
"Go on up, Zorie," said Lt. Blanco. "I'll follow right after you."

Zorie nodded and climbed up the ladder.

"Sarge!" called Phillips up to the balcony. "I'm already down here, so I'll move forward now. I've already been bitten anyway, so this way you guys don't have to take that risk." With that, he jogged off to the west into the grass as fast as his injured leg would allow.

In the comm room-
"Yes, that makes sense," said Lt. Malone. "We can call Omaha later, once the medical researchers are here." She looked up as Ramirez entered. "Ah, good, you're here. Hand your weapon to Lewis, and take the captain's rifle from Mikhalin. Then go back out on the balcony and start shooting at the enemy. You'll be this room's last line of defense." She got on her radio. "I agree with evacuating the civilians, but we have to have a place to send them first. We cannot allow them to come here, as the risk of infection is too high. At any rate, there's no time to do this before the hostiles arrive."

Ramirez complied, giving Lewis the M-4/203 and his magazines and 40mm grenades. Mikhalin gave Ramirez the regular M-4 and her 5.56mm magazines, and then she connected to Hawaii.

"Mr. Goldberg," said the lieutenant. "This is Lt. Elizabeth Malone again. Come in please."

After a lengthy pause, Goldberg's voice replied. He sounded extremely weak. "Hello?" he croaked. "I...didn't think...anyone would call back. I'm dyin' here...was just about to end it on the electric fence. Don't have much time...so make it quick."

"About that fence - are you sure the electricity kills them?"

"They're...already dead...but, yeah, I'm sure. Those five that got zapped...never got back up." Goldberg coughed miserably. "A few more fried themselves since...they're so stupid...just walked right into it..."

"Thank you, that's a great help." She looked at the others in the room. "Anything you want to ask him before he...goes?"

Goldberg continued to speak. "Is...Stephanie around? I'd...like to say goodbye to her."

"I'm sorry, but I'm afraid that won't be possible."

"She's not...dead, is she?"

"No, sir, she's quite all right. In fact she left for Omaha in a helicopter just ten or fifteen minutes ago."

"That's good...to hear. It's...too late...for me...but if anyone can...save what's left of the world...it's her and that doctor..." Goldberg let out an agonized groan.

On the motel's roof-
Sam Black continued firing, hitting with five shots - all of them deadly. "Well, I'm down to about a hundred rounds," he said. "After this batch are dead, someone needs to bring us the extra magazines from the ammo crate."

Sheen reloaded and got off two shots. The first just barely missed, but the second was on target and brought the ghoul down.

Malanowski reached the top of the ladder and hauled himself onto the roof. He made his way over to the west side where he could get a view of the grassy field.

On the roof of the garage-
Wallace clambered up onto the roof and approached Baldwin. "Baldwin?" he asked when the other truck driver just stared blankly. "Hey, buddy, you okay?"

Baldwin shook himself out of his fugue. "Huh?" he said. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just got a bit...confused there." He looked to the east. "Ready to shoot some walking dead?"

On the roof of the diner-
Luke finally managed to clear the jammed round from his rifle. When he looked out to the east again, he could see that the horde was a little over a third of a mile off, and it didn't look much smaller than it had been to start.

Azadeh fired three more shots, reloaded, and fired again, but all of her bullets missed. "Inshallah!" she grunted.

Samantha fired four times and then loaded a couple more rounds into her rifle. Her first shot was accurate, her second was even better, but the last two missed. The first zombie fell and began to crawl slowly, and the second lost its head.

(Luke now gets five shots at full skill, with only the -5% penalty for aiming at the head.)

In the garage-
"We ought to rig up a hatch to cover that hole in the ground," said Gary, "but I doubt we'll have time for that. Going down there just means we'll get trapped and they'll come down after us. We'd be trapped on the roof too, but at least they wouldn't be able to get to us easily. The garage is stable, but that eastern wall might crumble if enough of those things put pressure on it."

"I'm for heading up to the roof too," said Mitchell. Jimmy and David nodded in agreement. "Okay, let's come to a good stopping point and then get out there. We'll close the garage door behind us."

Joe Barring hurried through the interior door and started downstairs.

In the helicopter-
Erica Spears flew onwards to the east, leaving Route 385 behind. "My dad's got a farm up near Chadron," she said. "After I get you to Omaha, I'm hoping to get out that way and see if he's all right. Once you've done whatever it is you're going to do, you're welcome to come with me. I'm sure it beats staying in Corpse Central."

"If this works," said Dr. Hausmann, "we might not have to leave. I cannot promise anything, though. Mein father is still alive, the last I heard. He was on an archaeological expedition in Central America, deep in the jungle. There are not many people around, so there's a good chance he has survived."

"My dad died years ago," said Stephanie, still typing. "Cancer. My mom died in a car accident when I was young. I've got a brother who lives in San Diego with two children, a boy and a girl, but I don't get to see them much." A sad look crosses her eyes. "Since they live in such a big city, I guess I need to be realistic about their chances. Other than them, the people I care most about are right here with me." Bo squeezed her shoulders.

In the warehouse-
"I'm coming down!" called Joe, "But trouble's only about five minutes behind me! They're not going to be able to stop all of them, so we're going to need to use that gate to hold 'em off!"

"Sod me," groused Michael.

In the reception area-
Kerry shivered. "You mean we're going to get trapped down here?" she asked.

"Looks like it," said Kimberly. "There's probably not enough time for us to get up to the garage roof."

"There's certainly not enough time for me to get up there," said Lynne.

"Or me," said Mrs. Foo.

"I doubt I'd make it either," said Randall. "Not much point, anyway. I'll be toast soon enough."

"The gate should hold for a while," said Rosie, "but it won't last forever. Isn't there another way out of here, though?"

"Yes, my husband go down there already. He make sure path is clear."

"You mean...back through those tunnels?" asked Kerry, trembling uncontrollably. "No, I can't go back down there!"

"Would you rather stay here and get eaten?" asked Lynne.

Kerry paused. "I'm thinking about it."

In the upper hatch chamber-
"Good luck," said Ellen as Duke began climbing down the ladder.

"Thanks," he said. "Hope I don't need it."

In the lower hatch chamber-
Duke dropped down onto the flat lift below and looked around the room briefly. Then he headed for the doorway to the meeting room.

In the quarters-
"No!" cried Jenny, standing between Jim and the woman in the capsule. "You can't just shoot her! Mr. Foo, tell him!"

"I'd rather not if we don't have to," he said. "If she is still alive, I'd like her to stay that way. On the other hand, I'm not certain he's wrong. She could turn at any time."

The woman's chest slowed further, and then stopped moving.

(Jim Kerr, if you want to convince Mr. Foo that the woman should be shot, roll Fast Talk.)

Southwest corner of the motel, balcony level:
McCain heard the protests in his radio and agreed. "Men, belay that order to assemble on me for now. Instead, prepare to fire upon the creatures. Once this wave is destroyed, if we have time, we may be able to set up a more accurate defense front. Lereux, continue on to still meet the civilans." McCain then stepped to the edge of the balcony and taking his M-4 aimed at the walking creatures.

In the upstairs communication room:
Lewis took the weapons from Ramierz and began to load the grenade launcher. "Lt. Malone, would it be any trouble if once I get this loaded I stepped outside and helped defend this place? Also can I inform Sgt. McCain what Goldberg said about the creatures and electric fences?"

In the quarters:
Jim looked at Alice for a second then went up to Mr. Foo and said, "Mr. Foo I respect your opinion and everyone else's out here. But we do not know what is going on with this women and I think that she cannot help us out anymore. Anyway it appears she is dying so let us do the humane thing and simply put a bullet in her brain. What do you think? Having talked really fast he paused to take a breath.

In the comm room-
Lt. Malone nodded to Lewis. "Yes," she said, "you may go outside and help Ramirez defend our position. If I have need of your assistance, I'll call for you. Airman Mikhalin will stay here with me."

On the motel balcony-
Lewis finished reloading the grenade launcher as he emerged onto the balcony near where McCain stood. He could look out over the field of grass to the west from here.

(Lewis, roll Spot Hidden.)

In the quarters-
Mr. Foo nodded solemnly. "I think you're right," he said. "Her heart and lungs have already ceased to function, and there's nothing more we can do for her other than ensure she does not get back up."

"But-" started Jenny.

"I'm sorry, my dear. It's too late for her."

Jenny lowered her head and stepped aside.

(Jim Kerr, you may now shoot the woman in the head if you wish. Since the range is point blank and your skill is high enough, you'll only miss if you roll a malfunction. Damage is 1d10+1d4+2 with the .44 Magnum.)

On the southwest corner of the motel, balcony level:
Lewis stepped outside blinking his eyes from the sudden glare. He went up to Sgt. McCain and said, "Sir, I just want you to know that we recently heard from a person in Hawaii who says that electric fences seem to be killing these creatures. Maybe we can rig some up before the next wave? I am pretty good at electronics." He then shielded his eyes with his hand and stared off at the field. However he failed to see anything thanks to the glare.

In the quarters:
Lewis asked the group to stand back and pulling his pistol placed it on the woman's head. However at the last second he closed his eyes and so while the shot worked, it was extremly messy. It appeared that the woman was still alive although there was blood and brain matter hanging out her head. Turning away he asked Mr. Foo to finish the woman off and then said to Jenny, "I am sorry but it needed to be done. I hope you can forgive me. It was not something I wished to have done"

OOC: Walkers from the east: 17 dead, 5 with 9 damage to head, 5 with 8 damage to head
Walkers from the west: 33 dead , 1 with 9 damage to head, 1 with 8 damage to head

IC:
In the field west of the motel-
Phillips took up his position in the field and aimed at the approaching horde. Now that he had advanced, they were close enough that he had a halfway decent chance of hitting them. "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death," he said, "I will fear no evil; for I am the meanest son of a bitch in the valley." Though the odds were long, he managed to hit with three out of five shots - and one of the others only barely whizzed by its target. One zombie fell with two bullets in its head, and another dropped from only one.

On the motel balcony-
At the southwest corner, Duran began to take long range shots at the advancing undead, landing three hits. It took two shots to bring down his first target, and the third hit knocked another down, though it continued to crawl slowly onward.

Hockey continued to aim, but held his fire for now. "Gotta wait until they're just a little closer," he said. "Otherwise I'll be wasting an awful lot of lead."

(McCain, you may now fire five shots at half skill, with an additional -5% penalty for head shots. Lewis, roll Spot Hidden again. If you succeed, you also get five shots at half skill.)

Meanwhile, on the northwest corner, Ortega and Thayer opened up. Ortega got two solid hits, one of them nearly perfect, but it still took both shots to fell the ghoul.

"Finally, I get to kill stuff again," said Thayer, cutting loose with his M-16A2. He hit twice, obliterating both of his targets. "Yee-hah!"

(Hockey and Ortega also get another five combat rounds. M-16s may be fired at half skill, and the SAW may now be fired at full skill. Again, I'll roll for you if you prefer.)

Lt. Blanco reached the top of the ladder and made it onto the balcony, while Zorie Spooner entered the communications room.

Ramirez emerged onto the balcony and took up his position at the railing. He stood next to Lewis and peered at the field, "I see them," he said, raising his rifle to his shoulder and firing, getting only a single hit that seriously wounded one of the zombies.

In the comm room-
Zorie Spooner walked up to Lt. Malone and Airman Mikhalin. "Reporting as ordered," she said. "Dr. Blanco is right behind me."

"Ah, good," said Lt. Malone. She spoke into the microphone. "Mr. Goldberg? I have Lt. Angela Blanco of the U.S. Army Research Institute for Infectious Disease here, and her assistant Zorie Spooner. I'm sure they'll have lots of questions for you about your symptoms and the progression of the infection." She steps aside and allows Zorie through. "He was bitten nearly two hours ago and doesn't have much time left. Stephanie Bridges spoke to him earlier. It's a good thing we've got him now, so you two should learn what you can while you can."

Zorie nodded and took the microphone. "Hello, Mr. Goldberg. I'm Zorie Spooner. Dr. Blanco will be with me shortly."

"Hey," croaked Goldberg. "Always...a pleasure to...talk to a hot scientist babe. Well, I can't...see you...but you sound hot."

She laughed softly. "Yeah, I suppose I am."

On the motel's roof-
"Where are they?" asked Malanowski. "I can't see them."

Sam Black fired twice, reloaded, and fired twice more. All four shots hit, and again they were all devastating.

Bobby Sheen shot another two zombies and slew them both.

Between the motel and the T-Bone-
Captain Lereux hit the ground running and made a beeline for the garage. He made good time and crossed the dirt road midway between the two structures.

On the roof of the garage-
Wallace took aim at the mob to the east. "They're still a bit far for us to have a prayer of hitting them," he said.

Baldwin nodded, also aiming at the creatures. "They'll be within range all too soon," he added.

In the garage-
"Okay," said Mitchell, "we'd better get moving now if we're going to get up on the roof in time." He wiped the grease off his hands and jogged over to the garage door, hauling it open. The other mechanics followed him outside.

Outside the garage-
Jimmy, David, and Gary followed Mitchell out the garage door. They then pulled it shut behind them and headed for the ladder.

On the roof of the diner-
Azadeh fired five shots and hit with all of them, felling two zombies outright and horribly wounding three more. Those three dropped to the ground and crawled, falling behind like the other wounded ones. "Now that's more like it," she said.

Willie started shooting with the AR-15, but couldn't manage to land any hits.

Samantha fired four shots and then began to reload. She had better luck, hitting twice and taking out both ghouls.

(Luke gets another four shots, since he must now spend one round reloading.)

In the helicopter-
"Your father would be very proud of you, Stephanie," said Bo as the helicopter continued to follow I-80.

"Thanks," she said, sadness in her voice. "I hope he didn't turn into one of them. He died long enough ago that it's possible he didn't. What about your family, Bo?"

"I come from a long line of cops. My father retired and moved to Florida with my mother years ago. I don't know what's happened to them. I've also got a younger brother in Iraq. Bob, you got family left?"

In the reception area-
"I'm going up there to slow those bastards down," said Kimberly. "When we fall back to the gate, we can lock it behind us and shoot them while they pound on it. Anyone who moves slowly ought to start heading for the hatch before that happens." She runs upstairs.

In the warehouse-
Kimberly and Joe Barring entered from opposite directions. "Let's grab those remaining grenades," said Joe. "Don't want to leave them here if we have to retreat downstairs." The two of them each grabbed four grenades, and Michael took the last three. Joe also handed Michael the .45 magazines and the .38 revolver and bullets he had picked up in the garage. "If anyone down there doesn't have a gun, this'll do. It's dirty and it doesn't have much ammo, but that's all there was."

In the upper hatch chamber-
Ellen recoiled in alarm when she heard the loud gunshot from below. "What was that?" she asked.

In the meeting room-
Duke picked up his pace when he heard the loud roar of the .44 Magnum. "Is everyone all right?" he called, running through the meeting room.

In the quarters-
The .44 Magnum bullet blew the woman's brains all over the inside of the capsule, which now truly was a coffin. The body seemed to be decaying already.

"We're fine!" shouted Mr. Foo. "Just taking precautions." He looked inside the capsule, and then turned to Jim Kerr. "Another shot will not be necessary. There's very little left of her cranium, and she certainly won't be getting up again. You should probably load another round in that empty chamber. You never know what we'll run into down here." He shut the lid.

"It's okay," Jenny Cooper told Jim. "I understand that there was no other way. I just wish there had been." She looked around. "Well, there's nothing else in this cubicle, but maybe we'll find some more clues about who she was and why she was locked in here in the other seven. C'mon, Max." The dog eagerly followed her out of the chamber, and Mr. Foo brought up the rear.

The chamber they had emerged from had been the second out of four on the right side of the living quarters, and there were also four on the left side. There were no doors, just openings. All of them appeared to have similar furnishings.

OOC- The death toll is at the top of my post above. 33 are dead, leaving about 40 (2 of which are badly wounded and slowed down, so you don't need to worry about them just yet). There are still plenty of targets to shoot.

On the southwest corner of the motel, balcony level:
Lewis put his hand up to his eye and again tried to see what everyone was talking about. This time he saw the creatures clear as day. However he judged the distance to be too far yet for him to fire his weapons.
McCain put his M-4 up to his shoulder and fired off five shots aiming at the creatures heads. The gun pulled to the right and only one bullet found its mark. That bullet seemed to take off most of the creatures head but it kept right on coming! "Holy mother of God we are going to get killed!" he said.

In the underground quarters:
Jim loaded another round into his pistol and then he and Alice walked out into the hallway. Then he pointed to the next door down on the right side and said he would check that room out. Alice said she would check the door that they had skipped on the right when they had gone into the second right door. Jim nooded and said, "good luck"
Jim leaned his head into the 3rd room door with his gun at the ready and did a quick check around the room. Maybe it was because he was not far enough into the room or maybe it was because there was really nothing for them to see but he did not see anything of interest in the room. "This room looks clear but you are all welcome to do a better search" he said.
Alice held her Winchester Carbine in front of her face pointing into the room and simply walked into it. Looking around she found something of interest. "Mr. Foo or somebody can you come in here I think I found something.

"Anyone for obscure movie quotes?" Hockey Questions, taking aim at one of the horde; the most apparent of which - and squeezed the trigger once - nailing the fucker in the lower gut. The zombie staggers, however continues.

Taking aim at the same zed, hockey squeezes off 6 rounds, however but 4 hit. the four rounds disembowel the zombie, snaping its spinal column.

"Yippie-Kai-Yay.... Mother-Fucker..." hockey states with his mic keyed

Garrage (Roof)

Wallace looks at his weapon, and then to the sky. He begins to utter words, directed to his maker. "Father - I've ignored you for so long. So many years. Please... Watch over us".

His prayre remindes him of his reasons for abandoning catholiscism in the first place. so many years on the reserve; so much preaching. Falling back in an act of desperation - the bitter feeling of helplessness moving in. a sobering noise from the motel - the crackle of automatic fire. Wallace looks back to the horde. "Stay chillie, Baldwin. just think of it like a shooting gallery, except the targets bite back."

Ortega stands vidgelent. he flicks up his ladder sights on his M-16a2/M203. "Think I can get a few at 250?" he asks, checking the breach of his M203.

(Range on 203 please?)

Meeting Room

"Fucking shit man. This is just like that movie... you know- the one with the zombies?" with a short pause - "and- that actres with the nice rack" he added.
