ICC- Zombie Apocalypse- At the Truck Stop

Status
Not open for further replies.
On the Rooftop -

"Will you quit your bellyaching?" Luke sighs at Charlie as he pops in a new clip.

"First off, I don't give a rats ass what your name is until all those zombies are taking a dirtnap." Luke starts off. "Secondly, if you want to do something about it, use that anger. We can have a good oldfashioned knifefight to satisfy your bloodlust, but only after these fuckers are dead for good. So don't go all 'Wounded Knee' on me now!"

"And third, that lever action carbine is made for close to medium range. How about you use it for that very purpose?" Luke says "If you want to use the shotty, grab it, the shell belt and leave the Winchester. But watch out you don't hit someone by accident with the deershot or have ricochet pelets on stone or metal surfaces. Now get your red ass down there and help those people while I tag those other fuckers."

In the Garage -

OCC - Sean's head has been splattered all over the floor right, Welsh? Bob has no reason to believe that isn't enough to keep him down (yet), even though Horst has proven otherwise to Bud & Flip.

Bob loads the barrel as fast as possible, so that the convoy can get on it's way.

"Hey Cleopatra Jones, are you going with the truck or not?" Bob asks Kimberly.

"And truckerboys, do we have any heavy rig that could plow through these fucking zombies to thin out the numbers before they get here?" he asks to everyone in the garage.

In the diner -

If within range Dave will take a swing with his bat at the zombies head. If not in range, he goes into defensive mode & takes a step away from the window, ready to slug anything that comes too close.

OCC- I didn't get an answer to my questions that I edited into my last post in the OCC thread; maybe you didn't see them. How much more time is needed to finish fixing the computer, and is it something that can be done automatically or by Stephanie? And what is the range in yards from the motel to the diner?

Since they haven't seen the zombies up close yet, I'll roll Sanity for Mrs. Foo and Father McCormick.

Mrs. Foo made her Sanity roll (26% roll vs. 55% stat): http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=603184

Father McCormick made his Sanity roll (14% roll vs. 90% stat):
http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=603188

EDIT: Gonzalez, don't forget you're playing Jim Kerr too. He's in the chopper in the diner's parking lot. Bo's cruiser is parked right near it, and Jim has the keys.

IC-
In the motel-
"My wife's in there!" said Mr. Foo. He stopped working on the laptop for now, jumped up, and ran outside with the MP-5 gripped tightly in his hands, hoping to line up a long range shot.

"So's Dr. Hausmann!" said Stephanie. She turned to Ellen and Jenny. "Can either of you operate this? If so, I can help defend the motel with Mr. Foo's pistol. If not, are either of you good with a gun?" She called back Warren AFB. "Major, we've engaged the enemy. They're attacking the diner across the road first, but they'll be here eventually. One of us found an assault rifle apparently belonging to a Marine who was staying here and went off to see the meteorite, but it jammed and she's trying to clear it. I sure hope the cavalry's on its way. Over.

Stephanie looked back at Azadeh. "I agree, we need to get the people from the diner over here. How many infected people are there, and how close?"

In the diner-
Though the sight of the creature was shocking, Mrs. Foo kept her head together. "This way!" she said, pulling at Father McCormick's arm. "We be safer on roof! People with guns there." She ran towards a door at the back of the room, hoping to find a way to access the roof deeper in the interior of the diner.

Waiting for the others to post.

OCC- Suaside-

Note- "Then she chambers a round of her shotgun and gets on the truck." Little late. Cleopatra Jones?

Sean's head was in fact splattered. But why should Bob think that's enough (although the other characters are assuming such). The guys from the diner and Kimberly might have guessed that with an idea. But they have only witnessed one zombie episode, so don't count on it.

OCC- Mr. Handy-

The Diner is about 100 yards across from the Hotel. I think the range of the MP 5 is about 40, so 80 with a precise shot, 160 if you had a scope (you don't).

Note that Mr. and Mrs. Foo are both really old, so they will not be moving very fast. Mrs. Foo is also frail and in a panic rush to the roof.... might be hard on the old gal.

Time on the computer, a few more minutes. How much can be done by Stephanie- Probably most of it.

OCC- Thanks for the answers. You mentioned in the Spot Combat rules that an MP-5 has a 45 yard base range, so with precision aim it can be extended to 90. Mr. Foo will thus move about 10 yards from the motel so that he has no penalty to hit due to range. Can precision aim be used with a burst, and are the zombies clustered enough for this to be effective if so? Stephanie will do what work she can to keep the computer repairs going while Mr. Foo is outside.

IC-
In the motel-
Stephanie inspected Dr. Hausmann's computer. Most of the repairs were done, and she knew enough about computers to continue making progress in Mr. Foo's absence, so she got to work while waiting for replies.

OCC- Regretfully, Mr. Foo still has a problem of where to aim. Only two of the zombies were able to get close to the T-Bone due to the rather remarkable 90% hit rate of the shooters on the roof. There are 4 still coming but they are too far away. The one most dangerous to Mrs. Foo is inside the motel (and a difficult shot for Mr. Foo). The other zombie....
Well. That would be telling.

On the Rooftop -

Luke continues his barrage and is now aiming at the previously wounded runners. Two of his three shots hit, leaving only 2 'slow' runners.

OCC - how much time between Luke (or Charlie) tagging the two last wounded runners and the walkers getting into 50+% chance to hit range for Luke? (also no more posts for Luke until the diner situation is resolved, so the timelines come together again. i guess he's slightly ahead now.)

In the Garage -

As Bob finished loading the barrel, he takes time to put three fresh rounds in the clip of his beretta (2 were spent, 1 chambered now). During that time he briefly ponders on what he knows, or think to know about zombies and how to neutralise them (Occult: success 8% roll vs 44% skill). Afterall, his obsession with the occult was more than a mere enthousiast hobby.

OOC - Ok guys, I havent had any time for any form of internet application for the last few days. Alot on my plate right now, kindof a screwed time for me. Anyway - I'm not going to roll this post, (Sorry) I'm just going to do the whole dialog, and get back to what needs to get done. I posted on systematic, and now- I drive on, to zombie-appocalyps

(Welsh- Edits here. Not much, just to move the story along a bit).

IC

Garrage.

Wallace approaches the downed corpse of Hammond, though he stopped, when he saw the corpse of one of the Officers. "Shit..." he said, looking at the carnage. "I knew this Hammond guy was a Shaidy fella." he said, walking twards the corpse of the officer "We need to get these corpses out of here..." he said, looking at the two, and then over his shoulder, to the critter that he had tried to stalk in the junkyard. Heading the earlier request; he shuck his head, and headed for his truck.

He also kept in mind That he had to retrieve his AC-556. He would do that later. Climbing into the cab, he set the pistol in the passenger seat "4 Shells on back-up" he said, Remembering that he had fired twice.

Wallace got in beside Kimberly who tried to keep her shotgun out of the way. He also made a note to his-self, to replace the bullets; Though the business at hand would come first.

Meatlocker

OOC - I rolled for Know last time, when I was about half way through the post for flip, but I got pulled away before I could post. I rolled 12%.

Flip stepped back, when he realized that he was looking down the barrel of a .38; The floressant lights hanging from the flat celing reflected off of the slugs, visible in the chamber. Flip's eyes were drawn to the picture, after a moment, though the thought of himself stairing down the barrel of a .38 was more than enough to hender his ability to think clearly. "Horst's not dead! He tried to grab a hold of me! I'm tellin' you man! He ain't dead yet!" he said, looking the man in the face. He recognized the face of the girl, from the photo; though was torn between the man with the .38, and his former mentor's attempted graple.

(Edited - Added for Wallace)

Truly sorry for the delay, but here it goes:

IC-

On the road north-

Michael, makes hi decision based on what "looked" better rather than on logic. If he continued to drive ahead he would go where all that smoke comes from. If he goes to Brownson there are two reasons why he should do that: One, there is no smoke coming from there. Two, a clear sign of civilization in the form of a helicopter flew in that direction, besides it would be interesting to know where that helicopter landed, if it landed anywhere near.

Michael turns and heads for Brownson, he can barely see the others running after him, but even if it is obvious they are not going to catch up with him they continue to run for some reason. And boy it is some running and for what little Michael can see they don't seem to slow down or even loose breath.

As he drives ahead, Michael thinks its better to stay frosty and figure out what was really happening in the middle of this chaos.
(michael rolls knowledge:http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=613977 and succeeds even of how complex the situation seems to be) "Of course, after all, what else if not that".

(OCC- some edits here from Welsh- Willie and Tisha still have got to get to the rooftop, but I will take this post as a suggestion that you want to move in that direction).

In the diner-

Willie has been watching the movements and has heard the gunfire coming from above. Apparently there are shooters on the roof. Perhaps they are killing those.... things.

Tisha seems to be getting worse, and fearing that fear and panic to spread among the others and even himself, willie tries to use some comforting and selected words he picked up during his visits in war zones in an attempt to calm down Tisha before loosing her. (Willie rolls psychology http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=613988) But even though his best effort, his words do little to help her.

The window breaks and one of the creatures comes through. The Asian wound says something about going to the roof, and Willie makes a move in that direction.

Tisha screams horrified, her nightmare returned and stays fixed in her seat.

OOC: As I said to Welsh, I would rather someone else take over Jim Kerr. Welsh, can you do that in the meanwhile? Perhaps one of the players that have lost a character would like to take him over.

OCC- Zoey can post for Samantha, although she is currently not armed.

In Baldwin's Truck-

Baldwin pulls out of the lot and heads down the gravel road towards Route 30. As he's pulling onto the road a large aircraft flies over the turn-off. It's clearly a military plan with four propellers. The back cargo doors are being opened and it seems that there are men inside about to drop something out the back.

Wallace looks out the window and sees what seems to be a large mob of creatures closing on the garage. There are too many to count, even from the distance of almost a mile. Kimberly sees the crowd.

"That doesn't look good." she says as she reloads her shotgun.

"Let's hope we don't see anything like that on the way to Brownson." Says Baldwin.

In the meat locker

The man behind the .38 isn't buying what Flip has to sell.

"Cut the crap punk." Says Bud, "Tell me where this girl is and you may live to see daylight. I don't care if you live or die, but I want to know happened to this girl. Speak. Otherwise you can join your friend."

From what little Flip can tell, it seems the old guy means his business. He may be old, but he seems fast. Has a military look about him.

Horst has stopped moving and lies, still and dead, a bit colder than he was before.

Neither Flip nor Bud can hear what is happening elsewhere in the diner, the meatlocker cuts off all outside sounds.

In the Parking Lot-

Jim Kerr has been watching things unfold from outside and is thinking that things are pretty wild. He can hear the gunshots from the roof of the diner, and then saw some Arab chick squeezing off rounds with an AR-15. Then there were gunshots in the garage where his friend Sean Blank went. The days going to hell. Now a truck is leaving the lot, first car since the news van went out. He saw those folks come back. Van looked like it got the shit beat out of it. The sexy Asian chick looked like hell.

He is about to get out of the truck when the radio goes off. "This is State Trooper Joe Barrings. I am on the road again and heading for Brownson. Now I am North of Sidney. I expect to be there in about 10 minutes. Had to kill a couple of them ugly bastards. Pistol didn't seem to do enough to him, but seems the shotgun did it. Still.... Tough sons-a-bitches. What's the situation?"

Then Jim hears the screaming and shooting going on in the Diner.
(Note Jim would need at least two rounds to get into the Diner to participate in the action)

On the North Road-

Michael can see, from his distance a small town in the far distance. The college and airport seem to be north of the town. However, from where he is he can see nothing of any buildings or even the pavement of an airfield.

The helicopter seems to be heading in that direction in any event. He also hears the droning of another aircraft. to the Southwest he sees an airplane, flying fairly low to the ground and heading in an eastwardly direction. However, it is too far for him to make out the exact type of plane.

In the garage-

As the truck takes off the others look to Bob for guidance. Before Bob can say anything, they hear the airplane approach.

Then there is the sound of gunfire and screaming coming from the Diner.

OCC- So who is looking for Earl's gun? What does Bob plan to do now? Any suggestions for the other characters not taking the truck. I assume you will continue working on the helicopter? In the garage- Jimmy, Bob, Gary, Mitchell, Duke, Robert and Randall. + three dead bodies. Also note- It would take at least three moves to get into the Diner from here and participate in the action. If you wish to participate, I will tell you when you get there.

On the rooftop.

Charlie shoots at two of the creatures that neither Luke nor Charlie successfully brought down, but misses and on the last shot his rifle jams.

"Shit, you white people bring me bad luck." Says Charlie, as he begins to un-jam his rifle.

He is about to say something else to Luke when he is interrupted by the sounds from below. There is the sound of a woman screaming, and then gunshots. Then those sounds are drowned by the sound of the aircraft flying low overhead.

In the Comm room-

Azadeh is working feverishly on the AR-15 as Stephanie continues to try to communicate. "Almost got it.... Shit." She mutters as she continues to un-jam the assault rifle

Despite her own efforts, Stephanie also cannot get the computer to function again.

Azadeh sees what Stephanie is doing and says, "Once I get this unjammed, I'll have a go at your PC if you like."

Stephanie does get Lucky with the four remote stations.

Maine Stations- "Hi. Nebraska.... what the heck is going on? We have blasts all over Eastern Europe.... my husband usually operates this thing and he hasn't returned yet....What's going on? Can't get anything on the TV, and neither my cellphone nor my regular phone are working. I'm all alone up here at the cabin, and I have to say, I'm pretty damn scared."

Canada Station- "Hello Nebraska... ya, Like it's really bad out there, ya? I'm listening in on submarines under the icepack, tryin' to relay. Sounds like a big alert on, ya. Them Russkies are pretty spooked. Really bad, ya know. The Chinese aren't talkin either. I say things are going to get pretty damn bad. Ya. You know its bad when even them Polar Bears are spooked. Say, what's with them funny meteorites? I got one in my backyard and it seems to be leaking some funny colored gas or something. Smells pretty bad, like rotten eggs."

Nevada Station- "This is Capt. Powers. Need I remind you folks that you are operating government equipment and that this system is not to be used for communications between stations. Such communications may lead to penetration by adversarial agencies and the compromise of this network. Please desist from all such communication."

Alaska- "Hey Capt. Powers, why don't you take a flying fuck, or better yet, go to the nearest city and see what the fuck's happening, you asshole. I just came out of Sleep Mute and the whole fucking town is nuts. I mean, I saw some guy eaten another guy. Mary Bellweather was shootin people in the street and then she got dragged down and eaten by a mob. I'm at home and diggin' in with my Winchester and my Remington. When the fuck are you guys going to get me out of this shit? What the fuck is wrong with my cable?"

Goldberg in Hawaii has not yet answered.

Major Andrews comes on the line. "Has a C-130 aircraft flown over your position? Over?"

Stephanie and Azadeh both hear the plane as it passes overhead.

In the fields East of the T-Bone-

The creatures closing on the T-Bone also hear the aircraft flying over the T-Bone. For a moment to stop and watch as it begins to fly overhead.

In the Kitchen-

Dr. Haussman is about to take the anesthetic to be injected by Sally the Nurse. Alice is nearby trying to boil water and prepare bandages. Samantha is also nearby going over the procedures with Sally.

Samantha and Sally both know that it is unclear the extent of the damages done to Dr. Haussman, but that the doctor must be suffering great pain. Furthermore, they know that if they don't operate there is a danger of infection or blood loss. The truth is, they don't know how extensive the injuries are.

They are discussing this with Dr. Haussman when the glass shatters and the creature enters the diner.

In the Diner-

The creature entering through the window draws Rita's attention and she fires at it twice. both shots hit the creature in the belly, but seem to do little damage to it. Certainly she does not slow it down.
Rita stands fixed at the cashier. She will shoot at the creature till she runs out of ammunition, she stills it, or it gets her.

Mrs. Foo suddenly feels her age as she moves for the ladder? But where is the ladder? Now she regrets not coming to the T-Bone more often, but she always thought Hammond was an awful cook. But her age means that Mrs. Foo will be the last up the ladder. As she moves she can see that there are four other women in the kitchen, one of them on the table.

Father McCormick is nearby and tries to help her get to the ladder, but Mrs. Foo is moving painfully slow.

Tisha screams but seems willing to follow Willie, when Willie takes the lead.

Lynne, Rosie and Ashley are up, Rosie pushing the younger girls forward towards the drop-down ladder leading up to the rooftop. It is just outside the liquor storage and the main office.

Lynne says, "Earl and Hammond kept a pair of shotguns in the office. Maybe we should get 'em."

Rosie nods, "Best you do that and come on back."

Ashley is on the ladder but is panicked, loses her balance and slips down. The girl is unhurt, but her slip will delay the others from escaping to the roof.

Dave the mechanic is stepping back with a wrench in his hand.
(occ- Dave?)

Beth, also seeing the creature, withdraws her own pistol from her backback and fires hitting the creature once in the leg. The creature stumbles for a moment, but quickly climbs back up as Beth retreats towards the kitchen. She says as she moves towards the kitchen door, "You better get ready for a fight. They're here."

(occ- Note- No one in the kitchen is armed- however, the kitchen is full of items that could be used as weapons- pots, pans, knives. Roll Spot Hidden to find a suitable weapon).

Once the creature regains its feet it seems at first uncertain what to do as people move about the diner. Overwhelmed by so much prey it chooses the nearest target, Willie

OCC- Azadeh is Iranian, not Arab, but perhaps Jim Kerr simply isn't aware of the distinction.

Bo is in the garage too, but he's unconscious at the moment.

Stephanie's 90 Luck sure helped out! It's okay she didn't make her Computer Use roll, since Mr. Foo will be coming back inside now that he sees there's nothing he can do out there.

Mr. Foo made his Know roll (8% roll vs. 90% stat): http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=615470

Mrs. Foo failed her Spot Hidden roll (95% roll vs. 25% base skill): http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=615541

IC-
At the motel-
Mr. Foo came out of the motel and took in the scene in the diner parking lot and on the highway. Gunfire was coming from the diner and over a dozen corpses were lying in the road. A couple were staggering towards the diner, and a large mass of them was shambling in that direction from most of a mile away. They were way out of range, and by the time he could get to the diner it would be too late to intervene. As he turned to go back inside, he saw the C-130 fly low overhead and instantly recognized its markings. It had come from Warren AFB. That was quick, he thought. He went back to the comm room, slinging the MP-5 over his shoulder with the attached strap.

In the comm room-
"Thanks, Azadeh," said Stephanie. Too many thoughts were racing through her head, and she just couldn't get anywhere with the computer. Rather than waste any more time on it and risk causing more damage, she focused on communicating. "I wouldn't have contacted you guys if it weren't a dire emergency," Stephanie started. She quickly explained the situation with Warren AFB.

Mr. Foo came back in, sat back down at the desk, and resumed the last of the repairs. He told the others what he had seen. "I think one or two of them may have gotten into the diner, but the folks there have guns and hopefully they can handle it. That huge mob is less than a mile away. It's moving slow, but it'll be at the diner in about ten minutes. We need those barricades up fast."

As Mr. Foo spoke, the Canadian operator's mention of the meteorite alarmed Stephanie. "Canada, stay away from that meteorite! Seven people went to go look at one over an hour ago and we haven't heard from them since. You may need to get out of there." Her natural curiosity and scientific instincts took over. "Can you please describe the 'meteorite' from memory? No ordinary space rock does that. Rotten egg smell, that has to be sulfur! Was the gas yellow?

"Major Andrews, Mr. Foo did see the plane go by when he went outside a moment ago." Stephanie told him the current situation. "Still no word from Hawaii, but I've contacted four more operational stations. The one in Canada had a meteorite fall in its backyard, and the one in Alaska is near a town that's been overrun. I don't know how secure the ones in Nevada and Maine are yet. We've got maybe ten minutes before a large group of the infected reach the truck stop, about two hundred of them. Over.

Stephanie addressed all of the stations. "Alaska, how far away is Sleep Mute from your current location? Are any of you secure enough that you can transmit intelligence to Warren AFB for at least the next hour or so? We may be going offline soon, maybe permanently if the worst happens."

She summarized what she knew of the crisis and her thoughts as to its nature. At this stage, secrecy was no longer her main concern. "These objects from space are almost certainly connected to the outbreak, which would mean it's of extraterrestrial origin. For the past few years, these meteor showers have been depositing a strange compound all over the world. It made its way into the water cycle and then up the food chain. By now it's in just about every living thing, though I've only heard of it affecting humans. I'm a government scientist who's been researching this compund for the past year with Dr. Brigetta Hausmann of the CDC. We were on our way to Omaha when our chopper broke down, but fortunately Mr. Foo's station was here. I'm helping him run it while he helps us.

"I think this compound is at least partially responsible for the outbreak, and the latest meteor shower may have triggered its effects, which I and the CDC believe is bioelectrical." She briefly told them her galvanism hypothesis, using layman's terms to be sure they would understand it. She had gotten too many glazed looks in the past when spouting technobabble, and this was no time for confusion. "This is no mere natural phenomenon, and there's no record of it ever happening before. There's no way it could happen by accident - it must be by design. It's as if something has been seeding the Earth with this compound in preparation for this day. I think I may be on the track of a potential solution, though. I'm analyzing data from today's nuclear blasts to see if electromagnetic pulses take them out. Over."

In the kitchen-

Mr. Handy wrote- (As Mrs. Foo hurried through the kitchen behind the others, helped along by Father McCormick, she glanced about for anything she could use as a weapon. Unlike her husband, she was no good at hand to hand combat, but it was better than nothing and maybe someone else could use it better. There ought to be knives here, she reasoned, but they must have been put away somewhere and she had no clue where. Having no luck, she continued towards the ladder as fast as her advanced age allowed.)

Not so fast Mrs. Foo!!!

Flip looked over his shoulder. The situation had gone from bad to worse. "I recognize her. She's one of the Recruites at the PMS. Other than that- I don't know. I was just brought back in, All I know, is it's not realy my business. I try to stey out of the PMS's recruiting business. Now listen to me, man. Horst ain't dead" Flip said, in an very shakey, high-strung voice. "You've gotta pop 'em - Or he'll come back for us." Flip swallowed hard, looking back over his shoulder. "I saw 'em break the docter's arm, without hardly tryin'. " He swallowed again, and blinked hard. "The - The girl's at the Compound."

In Baldwin's Truck

Wallace looks at the crowd, and then down to his .357. He grasps the weapon, and pops the cylender, and pulls the spent casings out with his fingernails. He then reached into his pocket, freeing two shells from a speed loader, and replaces the the spent cartridges. "God-I hope you're right" Said Wallace, responding to Baldwin.

OCC -

Welsh, Dave now has the aluminum baseball bat, not the wrench.

Also you haven't revealed anything from Bob's 8% vs 44% skill roll on Occult about wacking zombies. It'd be handy to know right about now with the 3 corpses lying there & all.

I also take it David is still in the garage?

As for the guns on the garage floor: there is Hammond's .357, Sean's rifle and Bo's guns, right?

Mr. Handy, the distinction is futile. Arab is more about look than about anything else for a random american.

ICC -

On the rooftop -

Luke takes 2 more headshots at the two last slow runners (80% CTH: 99, 74). His irritation with Charlie causes him to miss the easy first shot, but strikes home on the second causing serious damage.

"The color of my skin has nothing to do with it. Using it as an excuse won't get you anywhere, mr Moonshine." Luke says to Charlie while popping in his last loaded clip "Damn all you racists to hell... If you cut a man, they all bleed red. A man is defined by what he does, not by how he's born, sonny."

In the garage -

"Do we have any working trucks at our disposal? Sturdy enough to run over a legion of those fucking brainsucking zombies?" Bob asks Mitchell "Thinning out the masses could prove decisive."

"You two, tough guys. Grab one of the weapons and ammo lying on the floor." Bob says to Duke and Robert "And then head for the office, there are supposed to be guns inthere somewhere, go find them, asap. Grab them all if there are a lot and keep two for yourself."

"Small fry, grab something to defend yourself, go outside and find out if there is a way onto the roof that we can use in case of an emergency." Bob says to Jim "No heroics! Just run for your life if you see more of those fuckers closeby."

"Big guy, keep an eye on those bodies." Bob says to David "I don't want any bad surprises. Maybe pull em by their legs and lay em together?"

"You keep an eye on the cop, make sure he isn't bleeding too much." Bob says to Randall "And grab one of the guns on the floor, but don't take the unconscious cop's guns. He might need em later."

"Gary, you're with me, we still have a chopper to fix." he then says.

In the Diner -

Dave is still slowly walking backwards toward 'safety' with the others, careful not to trip, of course. As long as nothing gets within swinging range, he won't take offensive action, but if something does, he'll smack it in the head like there is no tomorrow.

OCC-Incidentally, characters may have secret weapon scores they might not be aware of, a predisposed talent towards certain weapons over others. For example, Samantha the zoologist probably has higher rifle scores because of her experience using a tranquilizer rifle.

Also- if you are in a combat situation, please do not assume that the next post you will be "safely out of it." Combat tends to go slower and take more time, and movement during combat is not so easy. For instance, Mrs. Foo (who has a painfully low dex score) can say- "I am going to the ladder." But that might take a few moves considering her speed. IF she changes her mind, that will eat a move. Also don't forget, people panic, and when they do, tricky moves eat time (so Ashley falls while going up the ladder).

I will usually let you know when you are "out of harms way".

@ Mr. Handy- yes, I know that Azadeh is Persian and not Arabian, but Jim does not. Also the C-130 probably didn’t come out of Warren as the nearest base for C-130s is probably Peterson in Colorado (though there is nothing to say that a C-130 couldn’t be temporarily based at Warren). Mr. Foo is not going to the diner to check on Mrs. Foo? Damn. Also Mrs. Foo is not yet out of the diner yet. I thought she was going for the ladder?

@Suaside- Have sent you a pm on occult skills. Suffice it to say, if these are zombies in the occult way, you have to figure a way of filling their mouths with salt or perhaps throw them some salted meat (maybe a salted slab of Horst?). If Bob is more scientifically orientated, he would think that zombification is the result of poisoning causing a form of brain damage. But then they should be subject to gunfire.

David the trucker is still in the garage, so is Bo (although Bo is unconscious at the moment).

As for guns in the garage- Bo’s guns, Hammond’s .357 and Sean’s rifle, ya. Don’t forget that Jimmy still has Wallace’s rifle. Earl and Hammond had shotguns, but they were elsewhere.

On the roof top-

Charlie continues to work on un-jamming his rifle but does not succeed. He looks at the plane flying overhead. “Looks like cavalry is comin.” He says. “As I see it, white boy, they members of your tribe down there. I got a woman across the street and a tribe to the north that I still have to get too. You want to save your people, you go ahead.”

In the Comm Room-

OCC- note that communicating using the old gear is rather difficult and time consuming. So this takes a lot of time. Also you can’t do everything at the same time.

Azadehmanages to un jam the AR-15 and says, “You want my help or help out those folks at the Diner? Or keep an eye if we got more comin from another direction, perhaps attracted to the sound of gunfire.”

As Stephanie explains the situation it seems that –

Maine station- does want to help or doesn’t know how to help. Truth is, it seems the poor woman barely knows how to function the system.

Canada station- Wants to get back in touch with other Canada bases. Apparently there is a national emergency in Canada, don’t ya know? Ya! Rotten eggs, ya! Oh you want to know the color. Kind of rust like, kind of orange, ya know. Strangest thing. Maybe I should get a closer look? I’ll be careful, got a mask.

Nevada- Capt. Powers demands to know your military designation and clearance. Says what Stephanie is interested in is most un-proper. He doesn’t seem interested in listening. He might be suffering stress.

Alaska- has gone off the air, at least temporarily.

Hawaii- no response yet.

In the Meat Locker-

OCC- Horst really has stopped moving.

IC- Bud looks at Flip and is rather pleased. “Good. Now where in the Compound, punk. Speak fast or else.” He pulls back the hammer on the .38.

In Baldwin’s truck-

Baldwin nods. The truck pulls up over a little rise and then approaches Route 30. In the distance they can see the Lodgepole river and further away, what looks like two cars stationary on the road.

Baldwin turns right on Route 30, towards Brownson. There is no traffic nor are there any signs of life along the road.

In the garage-

Mitchell looks at Bob, wondering who this guy is to give him orders, but then shrugs. “Only other truck here that works is that one out there.” He says, pointing to a truck.

“That’s my rig.” Says David.

Mitchell shrugs. “Rest are busted. Oh, there is a tow truck out there too. Hey look man, you guys going up to the PMS compound. There are some innocent people up there, and, well… then PMS guys are hardcore, you know what I mean?”

Jim, who still is holding on to Wallace’s rifle, heads out the garage.
(OCC- this is Zoe’s character so I am going to let her play it, for now).

David looks at the two dead men, then eye balls Bob. “If they get up, I reckon I have to shoot ‘em again. So why not just shoot them now and be done with it?”

Randall picks up Sean’s rifle. “He’s ok, for now.” Says Randall about Bo, “But he needs a doctor. I’m afraid if the bullet’s inside it might cause an infection the longer its in there.”

Robert already has the pistol given to him by Kimberly. Duke grabs the .357 and follows Robert. As they enter the restaurant, those in the garage can hear gunshots coming from within the diner.

East of the Diner-

The airplane flies over Luke and Charlie and then over the creatures in the field. The creatures continue to stop and look at the aircrafts movements, and nearly fall over backwards as the airplane flies past.

In the Diner-

McCormick is leading Mrs. Foo out when Mrs. Foo says, “No we need to go to the kitchen.” But to do that they have to go around Rita who is firing at the zombie.

Rita fires twice more hitting the creature in its arm and leg. “Get the fuck out of my restaurant you ugly fucker. Die! Damn you! Die!” She yells. The creature falls to the floor, one arm badly damaged, yet it still attacks.

But the wounds to the creature allow Willie to outdistance the creature, dragging Tisha behind him. He heads to wards the ladder but sees that Ashley has fallen and is blocking the way up. Rosie is trying to get her up and helps Ashley regain her balance and she begins to go up the stairs. Lynne has gone through a side door into an office.

The creature, crawling across the floor, now turns towards the nearest prey, Rita .

Beth, standing by the kitchen door fires twice but misses.

In the Kitchen-

Haussman looks up, “What the hell…..”

Alice is grabbing a big butcher’s knife. Sally looks to the door. “We need to block that door.”

Occ- Samantha ?

OCC-Mrs. Foo was going for the ladder all along. I got confused and thought the way to the ladder was through the kitchen since you said she saw the other four women in the kitchen. Since it's not, she's just been going for the ladder. She never changed her mind. Also, there are four dead bodies in the garage, not three: the junkyard zombie and Earl (both headless), as well as Sean and Hammond.

Bob did see Bo blow the heads off two zombies with his shotgun, and he also saw zombie Hammond take several bullets to other parts of his body without being finished. Sean died from a headshot and has not risen up yet. Maybe he ought to be able to conclude that headshots might be effective, but that's up to Welsh.

By the way, I saw that two people posted on the Zombie Apocalypse thread when I was browsing Yog-Sothoth earlier and are interested in joining. One of them didn't realize that we're using pre-built characters, though.

IC-
In the Comm Room-
"Yes, please go help at the diner," said Mr. Foo, handing Azadeh his set of keys for the Outback. "You're younger and can run faster than I can, so you'll get there before I could have. My wife parked our car there if you need to get out fast. I can finish up the computer repairs." He turned to Ellen and Jenny. "Perhaps you two can see if any more are coming from the west when you're barricading the stairs on that side of the motel."

"Canada," said Stephanie, "I'm as curious about that meteorite as you are, but it may be more dangerous than you realize. Put the mask on by all means, though, and seal all of your windows and doors. Put duct tape around the edges if you've got it. Some gases can poison you by contact with the skin and don't need to enter the lungs, so the mask might not be enough. The gas is orange-red, so there's probably another gas mixed with sulfur.

Stephanie rattled off her security clearances to Captain Powers. "I'm a civilian, Captain, not military. If you don't want to talk to me, at least call Major Andrews at Warren AFB.

"Maine, if you're unfamiliar with the comm gear I can help talk you through it. I haven't used it before today either, but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it."

Stephanie called Major Andrews and told him the other stations' status. "Maybe you can get through to this Captain Powers in Nevada if you give him a call. Your rank might mean something to him." Powers had seemed fixated on protocol and had a narrow military mindset, so another military man, especially one who outranked him, might be better able to reason with him. As a little girl, Stephanie had dreamed of joining the Air Force and entering the space program, possibly even becoming an astronaut. In another life, in a parallel universe somewhere, she might have done it. But she was here now, and this was where she was needed.

In the diner-
Mrs. Foo was astonished that the creature was able to take five bullets and still keep going, but she couldn't dwell on it too much. She had to get to the roof. After seeing Ashley, who was much younger than she was, slip and fall, she was glad she had this kind priest with her to help her up the ladder once she got there.

In the Meat-Locker

"Its... a few miles up the dirt road, north of the diner; Just fallow the road... You'll find a No Trespassing sign; on you're left hand side, at a fork. Just.. Fallow that road." He said, and then swallowed hard, as a bead of sweat rolled down his forehead.

On the roof top -

"As far as I can see, sport, I'm doing what I can to help 'my tribe'. My tribe being human beings, of course, not some color."Luke says as he shoots and kills the last slow runner outside the diner.

"And now I can't go help downstairs, because I need to reload those empty clips before those fuckers get here." Luke adds pointing at the 180-odd zombies stumbling towards the diner "I hope they can handle what they got down there, because right now it's more important to be ready by the time those fuckers get into range."

Luke then pops out the clip and starts reloading the empty clips laying on the roof next to his gear.

In the Diner -

Dave still beats a careful retreat with his bat ready to swing at anything within range.

He silently starts humming and mumbling a song, but he doesn't know why (might it be fear overflow?).

"Brave Sir Robin ran away,
Bravely ran away, away.
When danger reared its ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about,
And gallantly, he chickened out.
Bravely taking to his feet,
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin."

In the garage -

"Rather find something to crush the head, I'd say. It ought to be sufficient." Bob replies to David "Or alternatively drag em outside, take some gasoline and burn em. Although I wouldn't like the idea of touching them, you never know. Either way, you might need the bullets..."

"As for the truck, do you think it's sturdy enough to run down some of those zombies outside?" Bob asks "There is an entire horde coming our way and I doubt we could hold them off by conventional means. Unless God wills us a machinegun nest with a M2 .50 cal with an ammo dump and a few spare barrels for good measure."

He then turns back to Mitchell.

"What's this talk about PMS?" he says "I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm just looking to buy us time here."

OCC-
Thanks for heads up Handy. I have sent both prospectives a PM. I have more pre-gens to use and we still have quite a few characters available. I have removed Colds and Albatross as neither has posted in awhile. I am also worried that Zoe is off.

I quite agree that Bob could deduce that headshots are a good way to remove a zombie. This would probably not require an idea roll.

In the Comm room-

Azadeh nods, checks to see that there is around in the AR-15 and heads over to the T-Bone.

From Canada- “Hey, ya… look at that…. Shanuck, my dog is growlin’ at it. Oh he don’t like the smell I guess. Hey, now look at that. Seems like its crackin or somethin’, Ya. That’s something you don’t see every day. Oohh. There’s Shanuck. Oh something gave him a scare. Look at him go now…. I wonder what…. Hey, there’s something flyin’ out of it. Oh my, oh my… quite a few I say, Ya. Oh a swarm. Hey, now they look like their trying to break my windows…. Damn ugly looking things….” Stephanie hears a glass shatter, “Oh damn. One of the glasses broke. I better get my gun now… Oh, my there’s a lot of them…. Hey… oh… Oh OH!!! AHHHHHHhhhhhhhhh……..”

Canada goes off line.

From Nevada- Capt. Powers. “A civilian! Do you realize what kind of criminal penalties may be suffered if you use secret military equipment? Do you understand that we are in a War against Terror missy! You do not have the authorization to be on this system, just as I lack the authorization to contact Warren AFB. This systems are to be used for designated purposes as stipulated by National Security Policy. Do you realize I can have you arrested! That you are committing a felony? CDC? The Center for Disease Contol does not have authorization to be using this system, and you should know that!”

From Main- “Oh I don’t know. My husband tells me that I should stay out of this business. You know, he doesn’t trust me and I don’t blame him. Hell I could never cook. God knows I watch that Rachel Ray on T.V. but I can never cook her meals in 30 minutes….”

Andrews – “We’re a bit overwhelmed at the moment, but I will see what we can do.”

In the meat locker-

“So she’s at the PMS compound? Good. Now, I think it best you stay here.” Says Bud. He then reaches behind him and opens the Meat Locker door keeping his eyes and gun trained on Flip. Then he steps back and slips through the plastic panels and out. Flip hears the meatlocker door lock, leaving him alone with Horst.

On the rooftop-

Charlie manages to un-jam his rifle and then begins reloading his own clips.

‘Well Custer. You’re right that I need to get down to my truck and bring up more ammo if we’re going to be shootin at that bunch. But I don’t think you’re going to be able to shoot them all.”

In the field the creatures continue to watch the aircraft as it flies overhead. For a moment they turn to watch the plane continue and some of them begin to take a few steps to chase the aircraft. But soon the plane continues down I-80 and the creatures stop pursuing. For a moment they seem uncertain, then they turn around and begin to move towards the T-Bone.

OCC- They are within 1000 yards and the 50% zone.

In the Parking lot-

Jim Kerr hears over the radio, “This is Trooper Joe Barring. Looks like Brownson’s a mess. Place is overwhelmed with them things. I’m trying to go around. Look’s like there’s an airforce plane comin’ in.”

In the office-

Lynne sees the shotguns in a case and throws a Cornhusker paperweight through the window to withdraw both shotguns.

It’s only then that she hears a low moaning from outside.

Outside the diner-

Jim the runaway walks around the garage to the rear of the diner when he sees another of the creatures closing in on the office door.

Inside the diner-
Rita fires twice more, missing once and hitting the creature again as it crawls towards her. The hammer of her gun falls on an empty chamber.

Beth keeps the door open for McCormick and Mrs. Foo as she fires her .38 twice, hitting the same leg shattering the bone.

As soon as McCormick and Mrs. Foo are inside, Beth goes into the kitchen and reaches for her bag to reload the pistol.

Dave, still retreating in the diner, sees the creature, now limited to one arm, continue to crawl towards Rita, dragging its destroyed arm and legs behind it. It has been shot 8 times but is till coming.

OCC- Dave Roll Sanity

Rita screams as the creature grabs for Rita’s legs. Robert and Duke come in from the garage and quickly run towards where Rita is screaming.

In the garage-

Discussion is cut off by the sound of gunfire coming from the Diner as Robert and Duke enter the diner.

The door closes behind then cutting off much of the sound.

Mitchell looks at Bob. “Prairie Militia Society, a bunch of skinhead white supremist assholes been involved in all sorts of crap around her. They have been abducting people and keeping them at the compound.”

David the truck nods. “It wouldn’t surprise me none. Hammond and Earl worked with them people. That’s what Horst was doing down here. Trying to make a business deal, I think to move some crystal meth they’d been making up there. Horst was involved in crimes all along I-80. PMS was were he kept his soldiers. As for the truck, I can probably run down a few on the road but not on open country. That said, I get them under my wheels and my tires blow, I’m fucked and so is the truck. As for these bodies, I’d prefer to shoot ‘em first and make sure they’re dead before I touch em. IN fact, I’m not touchin them without gloves.”

Bob also notices that Gary is not moving, but seems rather shocked and lost. “We should get the fuck out of here.” He says. “I don’t like this shit. Skinheads is one thing but these things is bad shit. And I don’t got a piece.”

OCC- No problem. By the way, Rita hit earlier with a roll in the 40's so her 7 in the last round must be an impale, meaning she did an extra 1d10 damage to the zombie.

I know Bob wants to save ammo, but saving lives is more important. Going up to a zombie to smash its head in with a hand weapon is dangerous if it isn't fully disabled. David is right - it's better to put a bullet in its brain from a safe distance.

Stephanie failed at her Chemistry roll to figure out what the rust-colored gas might be (67% roll vs. 63% skill): http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=620365

Stephanie succeeded at her Persuade roll to get Captain Powers to cooperate (22% roll vs. 44% skill): http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=620367

Mr. Foo succeeded at his Idea roll (45% roll vs. 90% stat) to realize what the C-130 is carrying: http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=620403

Since she's been trying to reason with Captain Powers for the last few posts, I think she's spent enough time by now to use Persuade, though if more is needed she can continue to talk to him for as long as necessary.

IC-
In the Comm Room-
Stephanie listened in a combination of horror and fascination when she heard the report from Canada. A swarm of deadly flying creatures, apparently from another world - she felt like she had walked into a science fiction movie. This was science fact, however, and science was her best weapon against these things. She was pretty sure sulfur was one of the gases coming from the alien object, and its yellow color might account for the orange tint when mixed with a rust-colored gas. She ought to know what that gas could be, but the shock was just too overwhelming for her to think straight.

"Captain Powers," she said, "we're in a War of the Worlds! There is no protocol to deal with what's happening today. We're just doing what Major Andrews needs done. I'm sorry if I'm not following proper procedure, but it's my first day. Warren AFB needs a constant stream of the latest intel, or they'll be operating in the dark. Then Russia could launch thousands of nukes on us and we wouldn't know it until we saw the mushroom clouds. Have me arrested if you like, but please help me save the world first. Just talk to Major Andrews. This emergency is beyond anything we've anticipated. We have to improvise and take initiative. General Patton didn't wait around when the chips were down, he did what needed doing and bent the rules when he had to. This is a time for action, a time for heroes. Heroes like you, Captain.

"Maine, I hear where you're coming from. I can't cook worth squat, but we have to do what we can with what we've got. You can do it, I know you can. When your husband gets back he can take over, and you can tell him I said that just because his reproductive organs are on the outside and ours are on the inside, it doesn't mean we can't do the job."

Stephanie called Major Andrews back and told him what happened in Canada. "Thank you, Major. You said earlier that some of those meteorites fell within the base perimeter. I think you ought to take them out from a safe distance before the same thing happens there. Also, if the crew of that C-130 spotted any more mobs in the area, please let us know. We're worried that they could come from the west too. I've also got a working theory about the nature of this outbreak, and Omaha concurs." She told him about the galvanic response. "I'm going to look into whether EMPs from today's nuclear blasts had an effect when I get a spare moment. Over."

"I'll look to the west myself once I'm done with the computer," said Mr. Foo. He smiled. "The ones from the east might not be as big a problem as we feared. I think I know what's on that C-130. You might want to brace yourself." He held the computer steady as he worked on it, and Stephanie gripped the comm gear tightly.

In the diner-
"Quick, block the door!" said Mrs. Foo, looking around for something big and heavy. She wouldn't be able to budge it, but maybe the others could. "How that thing still alive? They shot it so many times."

OCC- Ah. Mr. Handy is correct and I have miscounted the points on the poor Zombie....Still. OK, my goof, so let me fix now without breaking game.

Also, Capt Powers is not quite himself these days. Don't count on the persuade roll here. SOme folks cannot be persuaded or fast talked.

In the Comm Room-

Powers responds. "Look here. As I mentioned before this is a strictly restricted communications system and you do not have authorization. I demand that you desist from using it outside appropriate procedures. I do not know what the relationship between your station and Warren AFB is, but I am not currently in contact with that base and have my own concerns. If you refuse to desist, I will be required to take appropriate action. However, I will be willing to receive messages from Warren AFB."

From Maine, "Oh... I don't know. To be honest, if I do this wrong I'll be in a lot of trouble...."

(OCC- try the persuade on Maine)

Major Andrews- "We've got reports of infestation in all major towns and villages in the area along I-80. From what I know Sidney and KImball are in bad shape, but the smaller towns Dix, Potter and Brownson are also overrun.....Can't tell more without satellite feeds and those are down. Not sure what the C-130 sees as our communcations systems is down at the moment.....However, your request for support for hostiles from Brownson has been relayed. ....Hell of thing trying to coordinate... We told them Brownson area.... Hope it helps.. Also having trouble getting in touch with that Nevada station.... Sorry Stephanie but to be honest, you're the only station on that system that we are in touch with at present. Feeds or lines to other stations are frankly off-line. I can only assume that the line we have goes back to some early Cold War construction."

In the diner-

Duke and Robert, hearing Rita screaming and seeing her trying to get away from the creature race over to the register with guns drawn. Seeing the creature they shoot. Robert shoots, hitting the creature three times and finally it stills.

Duke is carrying the .357 and sees the damage. "Cool. How do you use one of these?" He asks. "And where can we get more ammo."

Rita has climbed up over the counter away from the stilled creatures. "Ammo? Guns, yeah. In the basement."

She looks at the creature now stilled. Its eyes are not closed and it can still look at her. It's body ruined, but whatever dark presence that lies within is yet undead.

She takes the .357 from Duke, brings it to the creatures head, and fires, blowing a hole through the creatures head.

She looks at her handy work but notices the eyes twitch, so she fires again, and the eyes go dark and dead once more.

"I guess that's how you have to kill them. Tough fuckers." She says. "In the liquor locker there is a stairwell going down into a section of the basement where Hammond and Earl kept ammo and guns."

On the rooftop-

The airplane keeps flying towards Brownson even as Luke and Charlie retake position to shoot at the creatures. Both are barely aware that Ashley has come up on the rooftop to join them.

"What are ya doin?" She asks.

"Killin'" Says Charlie. "You kill the two that we missed?"

"What two?"

Outside the T-Bone.

The creature that had been outside the office door turns when Jimmy turns the corner. Jimmy has two choices, shoot or run.

Further away, the C-130 continues to fly past the creatures outside.

The plane gains altitude as something is dropped by parachute in the distance.

As it nears the ground there is a tremendous explosion over Brownson...

Northwest of Brownson-

Erica Spears is flying her helicopter towards the abandoned airfield. She sees the aircraft approaching, turns to focus on the landing field, and then hears the explosion.

She sees as a giant fire ball rises into the sky above Brownson, and as Brownson's tiny hamlet is sucked into the inferno.

She radios to Jim Kerr- "Looks like someone just nuked Brownson."

East of Brownson-

State Trooper Joe Barring is driving towards Brownson when there is a blinding flash of light.... the windows of his car burst and shatter, and he feels the car picked up almost off the ground as the concussion of the blast spreads....

West of Brownson-

Baldwin, Wallace and Kimberly are in the truck when they see the a fireball over Brownson.

Outside the T-Bone-

The horde of roughly 200 creatures continue to shamble towards the T-Bone, unaffected by the blast behind them.

OCC- Holy collateral damage, Batman!

Stephanie succeeded at her Persuade roll by quite a lot (5% roll vs. 44% skill): http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=620683

EDIT: Don't forget that the CB in Baldwin's rig is tuned to the police frequency. Wallace or Kimberly can use it to talk to Jim Kerr (and Joe Barring if he can respond) during the ride to the airfield.

IC-
In the Comm Room-
Even from miles away, Stephanie and Mr. Foo could still feel the ground shake from the massive explosion - or at least they thought they did. Stephanie was glad she'd had a warning and was able to steady herself and the equipment first.

Mr. Foo nodded knowingly. "That must have been a MOAB," he said. "It's the most powerful non-nuclear explosive device in existence. Only a cargo plane like a C-130 can drop it."

"Okay, Captain," Stephanie told Powers, "that's the most I can ask for. Major Andrews hasn't been able to get through to you yet, but I'll let him know in case he does. Over and out."

"Relax, Maine," Stephanie told the operator's wife there. "You'll do fine. Considering the magnitude of the crisis, nobody would blame you for trying your best even if it's not good enough, but I believe in you. Molly Pitcher picked up her husband's musket and fought when he no longer could. We'll work together on this. Let's show these guys what two intelligent, determined women can do!"

Mr. Foo looked out the window, then went back to working on the laptop. "They're still coming," he reported. "It looks like the bomb fell too far to the east, maybe even on Brownson itself. I didn't think anyone could miss with a weapon with such a huge blast radius."

Stephanie groaned, then called Major Andrews. "Thank you, Major," she said. "That C-130 did drop a huge bomb. Mr. Foo thinks it's a MOAB. The problem is, they dropped it too far to the east and the hostiles are still coming. I just hope that State Police chopper's okay. Thanks anyway, though. Captain Powers in Nevada is at least willing to receive messages from you if you do manage to get through. I'm helping the operator's wife in Maine, and I think she could handle it too. Our satellite dish is still working, so I'll see if I can get some local intel with it. Over."

In the diner-
"It not safe here," said Mrs. Foo to the others in the kitchen. "We should go to motel across road. We have twenty rooms upstairs, only accessible from balcony outside. Easier to defend. Enough rooms for everyone if we double up. My husband and I own motel, and anyone can stay if they do all they can for group's survival. We pool our water, food, weapons, ammo, medicine. Each of us do what we can. We may have to leave area later, but for now it better there. I bring Outback, can shuttle people over. Also any supplies you have or I buy from Rita."
