Likely complete with Enclave iBots. Joystiq reports:<blockquote>Bethesda wants to bring the Fallout series to smaller screens ... they just haven't figured out how to pull it off yet.

"I think that the world of Fallout is unique enough that it could work on any platform. I think some of the things we do like VATS, I think that could translate to any platform, particularly the iPhone," Todd Howard told us yesterday. "We've looked into those things, we just haven't found the thing that supports the brand well. I wouldn't be surprised if it does happen one day. The iPhone versions that we've designed and said 'Ehh, we don't think we're going to do that right now,' there are ... there are a lot of them."</blockquote>Thanks Ausir!

I think Fallout on the PSP, DS or iPhone could be very good, they would probably outsource it like they are doing with New Vegas.

it must be Isometric though.

I think I died long ago, and Bethesda are my eternal punishment.

^^^^^^

Now Todd, nobody likes a liar.

As for an mobile version of Fallout, well the first Xbox/PS2 game and now Fallout 3 show how badly mangled Fallout ends up on none home computers or hardware that doesn't run PC/Mac software.

(just in case there are Mac owners here)

When playing Fallout on my phone, then it will be the original Fallout series and not those Bethesda spin off games.

The old Fallout games are optimized for 640x480 resolution which is nowadays standard resolution for mobile touch screen phones. That fits quite well.

You can just load Fallout with dosbox:

So that's much better than what Todd is going for? :D

This is absolutely ridiculous, first the increased tempo of media deluge before the release of Fallout 3, then the absolutely inflated amount of DLC being released in very short periods of time, New Vegas announced a short while ago, and now they're considering some handheld nonsense?

I've never seen a licensed exploited this much in such a little period of time, it's insane, and it's barely even been half a year since Fallout 3's release.
The series is rearing to become another mainstream cash cow.

Handheld Fallout?

Hmmm... not sure I can get behind this 100%.

Still, if it were like the original Fallouts, I'd give it a chance.

This post was made better with TRUTH!

Leave Fanboy dorkdom at the door AND USE TRUTH TODAY!

truth will not be held responsible for acctions that happen for using truth.

But... the old Fallouts are still property of Interplay aren't they? So they couldn't port them (nor they would want to alienate most of their target audience doing so...).

Just imagine... VATS in your iPhone... how cool is that?
Lucky i didn't bought that piece of crap...

I don't see why Interplay couldn't port the old ones. It might be a good idea, other then the recently re-released FO "Trilogy", they don't have any other cash streams. When was the last time Interplay even posted in the black? How the fuck can a company like that still operate/exist?

They can't without Bethesda's permission.

GOG.com is another.

The code might still belong to Interplay, and they do have distribution rights, but the actual content belongs to Bethesda.

I always ask my self how desperate one has to be to sell almost anything of the pretty much most succesfull IP they have ... if they even have to ask for permission for the "old" games.

The more I think about it, the more I get the idea that in the end Interplay made not only a bad but a godawful deal with Bethesda.

Crni, they did make a bad decision but it was the ONLY decision. I'm pretty certain I saw someone who used to work at I-Play mention that he had to convince them to take the deal literally HOURS before IP would have been forced to be put into bankruptcy.

Also while I understand the hope and dreamy eyed thoughts of fallout for ds or psp you folks are (quite surprisingly from this community) not fully reading or comprehending what they said.

Let me post it again:

Did you catch it that time?

"I think that the world of Fallout is unique enough that it could work on any platform. I think some of the things we do like VATS, I think that could translate to any platform, particularly the iPhone,"

The inclusion of that phrase means its almost entirely likely they are considering some sort of "new fallout" (I use the term lightly with all the ideas they borrowed from Brotherhood of Steel, and how far their original ideas go away from the fallout setting).

Lets face it guys, unless Obsidian pulls off a miracle then fallout is dead.

I think that the world of Fallout is unique enough that it could work on any platform.

The uniqueness of the world does not equals working on any platform.

The idea of doing fps game on iphone is possible. Though the control will be really clumsy definetly will play like a console controller.

On the other hand, Bethesda mightgoing to go the way of isometric viewpoint for FO3 IP...or stick to what they do best.
The sky is falling...:ugly:

That's news? For all intents and purposes Fallout died with the sacking of BIS. What we've been watching the last 8 years is Fallout circling the drain, in it's death throes, and ultimately it's exhumation and "re-animation".

I think that the world of Fallout is unique enough that it could work on any platform.

The world of Fallout is just inherently great, right Todd? That would explain FOBOS' enduring charm.

The world itself is nothing without the people who made it so in the first place. You hand the helm over to the creative geniuses behind the world of Oblivion and how long do you think it will be until people see right through the utter lack of competent writers at Bethesda?
Who gives a fuck what the name on the box says? If you have the same group of hacks behind it, what's the fucking difference?

It's going to be really funny watching Bethesda try to keep Fallout going with previous design shit to copycat all dried up. It's going to go so far beyond the pale of what is Fallout to the point of not being recognizable as such anymore. Good luck with that Todd, you'll not be getting so much as a penny from me though.

It's unlikely that a Fallout game for the handhelds would be anything more than cheap shovelware. On the off chance that some serious effort is put into its development, it is likely to end up being more faithful to the original series than Fallout 3, mechanics-wise. Handheld devices don't exactly lend themselves well to first-person gameplay, as Bethesda learned painfully with TES Travels: Shadowkey.
