Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

 Just saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and loved it :). The story seemed a bit cheesy and cliche to a lot of people but i think it fits great with the year of the action (1957) and the typical adventure/sci-fi scenarios in books and comics.

The editing was sharp and i didnt expect to laugh at some of the obvious jokes but i did.

Also there were a lot of references to previous movies and even other spielberg/lucas movies (a few i saw were Indiana Jones, Star Wars, E.T.)

Anybody else seen the movie ?

I have to say I enjoyed the movie. Yes, the cheesiness and all is there, but that was always part of the charm of Indiana Jones movies. At least I thought so.

I'd heartily recommend it; not as a masterpiece, but definitely as a highly enjoyable summer "blockbuster."

It's no Raiders of the Lost Ark, but it's pretty fun. I'd say it's on par with Last Crusade - maybe even a bit better. Being of equal quality to previous installments was more than I was hoping for, especially since the entire franchise has aged into the Cold War.

It's only the end of May and already we've had two decent big-budget Hollywood blockbusters. It might end up being a good summer for movies. Finally.

I agree w/ you guys. It was just an all out fun movie. Not life changing or anything but satisfying none the less. I'm glad others feel the same way. I've already heard people complaining about it and how it isn't as good as the originals... all I have to say is: "No shit". This movie was never meant to be anything super special. Hell, Spielberg and Ford only did it because the fans begged him for 20 years to.

It was ok. I can't say I hated it but I rank it lower than the previous three. The plot wasn't very interesting or suspenseful. We're told at the very beginning what the skull is. There wasn't really a memorable sequence besides the pretty cool car chase through the jungle and the sets looked pretty crappy, if you ask me. Also, I felt like Indy wasn't the main character. I don't mind Shia but I want to see Ford kick ass, not him.

There were quite a few ridiculous moments: the tarzan thing, the fridge, the tree landing, the little rodents, etc.

I'd give it 7/10. Maybe I was expecting something more.

SPOILERS

Wasn't Henry Sr supposed to be immortal? How did he die after drinking from the chalice, am I missing something?

I liked it a lot, though the friend I saw it with said he couldn't dig it because of the goofiness of the idea of having aliens in an Indy movie, but liked the action. But, yeah, cool flick, imo.

I found Crystal Kingdom it to be an OK movie. I still think Last Crusade is the best Indy film of the lot.

On the subject of immortality derived from drinking from the Holy Grail: Drinking once from the Grail does not make you immortal, otherwise all three crusader knights that found the Grail would still be alive, and Indy would simply have gone and asked one of them where the Grail was instead of wading in petroleum under Venice to find a tomb. No, in order to achieve immortality, you must find and possess the Grail and drink from it regularly. The only crusader knight that was still alive was the one that was still guarding it.

Plus, the knight guarding the Grail can barely carrying his own sword and fighting. Which means that even if he's immortal, he has to bear the throes of old age.

I'm right there with you. It was missing a few key elements of filming angles to give more of an Indiana Jones feeling. There should have been more wide angle lens and landscape views.

The biggest thing I found people disappointed with, the "unbelievable" "science fiction" orientation of the film... I'm not so entirely sure I'd call it "Science fiction" as the story behind the existence and mystery of the crystal skulls is real, and possibly that insane.

It was fun, though very predictable and sortof lame in parts. It was worth the price of the ticket, though, I thought.

From what you guys are saying it looks like the Indiana Jones films are still on the slide down.
The first was great,
the second was ok
the third..... yawn....
the fourth ..... unmemorable?

One more franchise bites dust.

O, I didn't know that. Thanks for the explanation. The Last Crusade is my favorite too btw.

One more thing I didn't like about the Kingdom:

SPOILERS

That they showed the actual supernatural or sci fi parts. They were more subtle in the previous three. The heart getting ripped out and the old crusader were the wildest elements about the previous three, and here they show the actual creature and the flying saucer.

I think it held up pretty well to the older movies. It's hard to follow up 3 movies, and especially with such a long time for them to "settle" in peoples minds.

What I'd actually wanted more of, is the "Indy is getting old, how will he deal with it?" which I thought was a bit absent in the movie. I mean yeah, these movies are action/adventure flicks, but I thought that would be more prominent.

I liked it overall though, and it was nice seeing Harrison back in the hat. While the movies action was fun, I must admit though that I found the overall energy to be a bit lacking, especially in the case of Indys wits. I also thought John Hurt was underused.
I also liked the kid which I didn't expect at all as these types of roles tend to have a grating effect on me.

But yeah, for me it's one of those cases where I probably would've fallen in love with it if I had seen it at a younger age. I sincerely doubt I personally would've been all that impressed with the older movies if they had been released today.

Neither disappointed nor overly impressed.

I'm sorry, I have to disagree with your list welsh.

First was good
Second was shit
Third was awesome.
Haven't watched the fourth but it sounds like the second only worse.

Still... the last crusade always seemed to end the 3 very well. Now they give me a new one X( DO NOT WANT!

I literally just got back from watching it.

It was good, but not as good as the first three. But still a good film... Fun, I'd describe it as.

first was good
second was so-so
third rawked ur sox
fourth.. uhhh yea.

they should have stayed away from the whole alien angle.

reminded me of encounters of the third kind

Exactly.

I think most of the movie was allright, stayed in the spirit of the last ones, barring the ending.

Which yes, sucked ass terribly.

I thought it was an okay movie, not great. But not terribly awful. Lucas must think that the common audience is braindead retarded, I mean come on. I know the last three movies had some semblence of fantasy but at least they were believable(mystic elements excluded

HE SURVIVES A NUCLEAR BLAST BY HIDING IN A FRIDGE THAT PROPELS HIM 500 FEET.

Shia lebeof(the beef) suddenly gains the powers of animal empathy and swings with hundreds of monkey followers who proceed to attack the main villian.

Too much family fun entertainment. Indy's followers(with the exception of john hurt) were too grating for me. I literally felt like there was no danger at all to the characters. We all knew Ray winstone was going to die(come on, greedy guy likes gold, gets it in the end.)

Gun powder being thrown in the air to find a magnet

ALIENS, WHAT THE FUCK

Plot holes the size of lawrence fishborne's craters.

Fuck george lucas for shitting out a script like this.

Flying saucer...Marriage scene...the end.
