Interested in a Pipboy 2000?

First time out of the vault
Hey everyone, I am new to the forum but have played Fallout since I was pretty young. I am currently working on a costume for comic-con and I am currently working on a fullsize Pipboy 2000 prop and was wondering how many people would be interested in buying one? I'm not sure of the pricing yet as I have yet to calculate costs but as soon as I figure that out I will post it here. Also I was wondering if you would prefer one that goes on your wrist like it's described or would you rather just have it to hold. I myself always thought pipboys were worn like an Indiana Jones side pouch or just held until I read in the manual that they are worn on the wrist which just doesn't seem realistic me. Let me know what you think and I'll post progress pictures soon.

How is this going to be different from most cellphones?

Haha! Sorry for the confusion but what I'm working on is just a prop; it won't be a working piece of technology.

the most important thing is, how "authentic" will it be? I don't think a lot of people will commit to buying one before they've seen pictures of it.

I hope it’s better than this…….

Where does it say that a PIP-Boy is being worn on the wrist...? Unless you're talking about the FO3 ones? Isn't that a PIPBoy 3000?

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/PIPBoy

It displays information in bright green on its black 5" x 3" screen. It can record sound and video footage for later playback. It uses a simple but elegant form of sonar and satellite tracking (where available, which is far from everywhere in the post-apocalyptic world) to map out areas where its user travels. Though input is slow, a user can also hand-enter and edit text messages on their Pip Boy 2000s. The original Pip-Boy 2000 was a hand-held device, though some very cumbersome models were made to be worn on the arm. These models were unofficially called Pip-Boy 2000 Plus.

I have no idea where the Pip-Boy 2000 Plus makes an appearance. Tactics?

Ah that was a metaphor my friend…I know the pipboy looks nothing like a paper watch…

The fallout wiki states :
The original Pip-Boy 2000 was a hand-held device, though some very cumbersome models were made to be worn on the arm. These models were unofficially called Pip-Boy 2000 Plus, and one of them was owned by the Vault Dweller and later the Chosen One.

Therefore, if the wiki is correct, we can guess the pip-boy we see in the first games is "worn on the arm".

and one of them was owned by the Vault Dweller and later the Chosen One

The wiki doesn't state this.

The original Pip-Boy 2000 is a handheld device.

Haha It will certainly be better than that. When I'm done with the Pipboy it will as "authentic" to the original as I can get it. I'm definitely not asking people to commit to buying one, just wondering what the demand would be. I'll have pictures soon.

And Coliphorbs- I always assumed it was handheld but if you read the original game manual it decribes the pipboy as a wristworn object. Besides that I don't think it's stated anywhere. I really don't like it as a wrist worn thing anyway so that's why my plan is to attach a strap to it or something.

I have a few things I would like to finish up before I show pictures of the progress but I will soon. And don't worry, I have been making props and other things for awhile now so I fully understand that the product will speak for itself.

I think Van Buren started the wristworn trend, but correct me if I'm wrong. I seem to remember some Van Buren Pip Boy concept art like that.

Even though I do remember the Van Buren art, I'm pretty sure the original pipboy was supposed to be wrist worn but because it's an unimportant detail it ended up not being visualized (just like unequiped weapons).

When I find my manual I'll post the section describing the pipboy along with pictures of the prototype Pipboy.

Yeah I knew it was in there. Here is a screenshot of the paragraph where it's said. Like I said before, I don't want to wear it on my wrist but I can definitely make them to order if you do.

It does. The original Pip-Boy 2000 is handheld, but it doesn't appear in any game. The "Plus" model does.
