Open the floodgates for the inevitable stream of revenue! After a departure late last year, Interplay is back on GameTap, with these games.
* American Deer Hunting 2000 (Windows)
* Battle Chess (DOS)
* Clayfighter (Genesis)
* Descent II (Windows)
* Descent III (Windows)
* Descent: Freespace (Windows)
* Descent: Freespace Silent Threat Battle Pack (Windows)
* Die By the Sword (Windows)
* Earthworm Jim 3D (Windows)
* Earthworm Jim (Genesis)
* Earthworm Jim 2 (Genesis)
* Freespace 2 (Windows)
* MDK (Windows)
* Offroad Redneck Racing (Windows)
Link: GameTap welcomes back Interplay, adding more Take-Two on Joystiq.

Some of those games might be interesting to play.

I actually own a copy of Freespace, but was never really able to get into it. I purchased it during a period where I was actually moving away from playing computer games a bit, though, so that might have something to do with it.

FYI - Had the technology been available, F1 and F2 would have been made using the same perspective as "American Deer Hunting 2000." :P

Freespace was actually a pretty good game. I enjoyed it.
About the perspective thing, I always thought Interplay was targeting consumers like me who prefer ISO view. When I think of RPG's I think of ISO view. It allows me to control my party and what I'm doing much better. I never played American Deer Hunter though...

I seriously doubt Interplay as a company had a preference for isometric view.

They'd earn more if they released on Steam.

1. I don't think Steam supports Genesis/Megadrive games.
2. I'm pretty sure Steam asks for more money.
3. GameTap has a wider array of games (1100 vs Steam's 250), many of which are in the same market as these Interplay games

So long story short...no?

Natively, no, it doesn't. However, it fully supports emulating software. Why do you think Commander Keen, included in id's pack, works perfectly when downloaded from Steam?

2. I'm pretty sure Steam asks for more money.

Ummm, what?

I'm pretty sure it's the amount of users rather than the amount of games that determines success.

Wow, a Steam fanboy. Those are rare these days, I thought everyone long since learned to hate Steam. Please don't wear me out with your fanboy-cooties, just realise Steam isn't the end-all be-all of anything.
(that's the PS3)

I don't know. Regardless, it doesn't need said emulation software for GameTap. "Yeah, but something else than Steam can also run it!" Very interesting.

(note, by the way, that I don't use GameTap. I pretty much stick to Gamer's Gate for DD)

Apropos, I remember the mombardery that this was mentioned with. But funny thing is, in all the PR and all the flyers thrown about, nobody ever mentioned one thing: is it free to sell your game on Steam store? The tools are free, the Steamworks functionality and thus network is free. Is selling the game via Steam free?

Tic-toc tic-toc.

Depends rather more on what target market you want to reach.

It isn't the end-all-be-all, but it's growing. There's tons of content ad options it could have, and I'm pretty sure it will have them.

As for hating, it's a common misconception, most of the dreadful problems are ironed out and the detractors simply... faded into obscurity. It works reasonably fast now, too.

Let me rephrase: the emulator is bundled with the old games. You don't need an external application, as everything is in the package you bought.

Same as GT.

When Garry's Mod 10 was released on Steam, from each sold copy, five bucks went to Gary, five went to VALVe. No reason not to believe that a similiar agreement is included in Steamworks.

Very true.

50-50?! That's friggin' insane! I have no idea what GT asks for, but it sure as hell ain't 50%.

Or changed their minds, like me. It's an excellent platform, the only thing that could one day save PC gaming.

Thing is, Garry's Mod is a mod for Valve's own game, so they probably ask more for that than for other games.

I would never have believed you a PCgamingisdeadist, Brio.

He is half right, though. Not that Steam specifically will save PC gaming, but that PC gaming will live due to a bigger focus on direct download and similar systems.

Well yeah, but that'll happen Steam or no Steam. Steam is just pushing itself to the forefront and ahead of its competitors.

As for PC gaming "will live", I have no crystal ball to check what PC gaming would look like today without digital download, but let's keep on thing clear, PC gaming is currently neither dead nor dying.

Wow, a Steam hater. Those, while steadily decreasing in number, are still alarmingly common these days. Please don't...

Wait just a goddamned minute here - before I finish my witty retort, can you verify that you've had any firsthand experience with Steam, and if so, was it within the last two years?

I keep getting burned by assuming you actually know what you're talking about :mrgreen:

Actually if you'd care to take notice...

...I was trolling Grizzly.

I would give myself a strike, 'cept that the system doesn't allow me to give myself a strike, for some reason.

Yeah, as a client. Haven't purchased anything on there. Got a redeem code once. It worked fine.

Also, I always know what I'm talking about.
