not at all. but if you consider combat in all games you play to be a tiresome task you'd rather just skip, maybe you shouldn't be playing games?
 
I like the sound of hardcore mod for New Vegas since F3 was too easy even when played on very hard and without VATS.

I think that more developers should add custom difficulty feature to the game so that players can tweak it to their liking like in IL-2 Sturmovik.

For example I like to play shooters realistic way, so when I have things like autosaves every ten meters, unkillable companions and regenerating health I would like to turn them off but I also know that some people cant play games without those features. I miss the days of old Rainbow Six, Delta Force and SWAT.
 
Hardcore mode sounds like fun, but personally the dehydration thing will probably just annoy the hell out of me.

And yes you could do many of the quests in the originals without violence if your stats and skills were high enough in the right areas.

Again, a game can simply have too much combat. I don't mind blasting\hacking away stuff, but there are times when I just want to walk around and talk to people, solve some quest using my non-combat skills, see how the story progresses etc. Or I just don't want to spend another 10 minutes killing another 90+ level dragon just because the devs ran out of ideas on how to make their game entertaining and simply threw in lots of random enemies that take too much effort to kill (see Bloodlines ending quests).

The player should be able to choose which parts of gameplay he\she would like to spend the most time on. If you enjoy combat in the particular game, you just raise the difficulty mode or turn on the hardcore mode. If the particular game has, in your opinion, a flawed combat system and\or too many fights, you just play it easy to go through that part as fast as possible. I don't even remember how many games I've never finished only because it became a mindless grind-fest or there was some uber-powerful enemy that I just gave up upon. The devs should never *force* the player into something that may simply bore them, especially if we're talking about RPGs, which aren't (or at least don't need to) be combat-oriented.

That been said, I really think that putting hardcore mode with diffrent gameplay mechanics in NV was an excellent idea, since it let's you play the game the way you like. I wonder if that was Oscuro's idea?

I consider fps'ing the whole fucking time im trying to play a game is rather annoying. I hate the genre with a passion. Bioshock and Stalker, if it was non fps but the same environment they would be awesome. I dont want to have to shoot as the main objective to everything. F1 and F2 was turn based and rpg based and we all love them so that's a hint that everyone feels this way actually they are just conditioned to think fps is the only way to exist.

that's why consoles are retarded.

I thought this sounded kinda lame as shit too. now i think about it and it has to exist. Other options are game notices saying how parched your mouth is, others say you walk slowly in the oppressive heat and feel... xxx.... etc.

that would be cool until someone on here looks into the "code" or whatever and finds that 10am to 4 am in desert = x, early morning = x, then it's just a mtter of reading info on the net and hunting for it which kills the game worse. Another thing is rpg's, real ones, have dice rolls. nothing more blatantly concrete than a number 6 = thirsty, a meter in and of itself.

Maybe you're only talking about the FPS genre, but come on man. Even the Fallout manual told you to save every 3 seconds. Autosaves just make sense.

I hope to god this is your actual opinion, if only because it is so beautifully unique and insane. Bioshock is one of the highest rated games of all time because of some sort of mass psychic conditioning? Love it.

Bioshock as a game was ridiculously easy.
 
I hope the water thing works out better than Mass Effect 2's fuel gauge on the Normandy. I never quite got the point of that since the first game didn't have it or need it. Fuel never even cost enough for it to be a balancing problem.
 
I tried the Bioshock demo on the PS3. The combat was so horrible that I decided to never buy the game.

Basically, I expended most of my ammo and health trying to shoot this enemy that kept strafing side to side, while also being able to shoot perfectly. When I finally killed them, they had very little ammo on them. This either meant that enemies in the game have unlimited ammo and drop a set amount of (very little) ammo, or that he actually had about 10 clips or so and had emptied them all into the player.

Either way, I didn't really enjoy the game at all. I suppose it could be better on the PC. I also heard that you can simply bash everything to death with a melee weapon, or fists or whatever, and keep reviving for free. :P That doesn't really sound like a good game though..

Sorry to go off topic. As for the modes on Vegas.. I think the hunger and thist effects sound interesting so I'll probably be playing that mode my first play through as well.

Heh, interesting thought.

Overall the idea of Hardcore mode is a good one, even if most of us might feel it should be the default mode (like it seemed to be at one time, hey? :P).

I just worry that it will play more like 'Vanilla with enemies with higher HP and DPS' despite what is reported to be different. By now we know that things very rarely play out as they sound on paper/the screen/how our minds choose to fabricate it.
 
Well I mean if they're going to implement dehydration for the effect of realism then they should apply having the need to clear the bladder and the colon. How horrible, just as you're about to crouch down behind a cactus to take a crap when a pack of deathclaws come racing towards you.

Maybe, and it might make more sense then Fallout 3. You know, the Deathclaw only has to go through a few states rather than the whole continent.

More:

- different caps can have different weight,
- some traders prefer different types of currency than others so you can't simply count that a cap from Nuka Cola Quantum is worth ten times more than a bottle cap from beer,
- banned currencies; e.g. faction A that controls town B, a very important trade market, happens to also posses plenty of specific bottle caps because they have looted a big bottle factory. In order to make their currency stronger, they ban any other kind of money on their territory,
- if you transport fair amount of caps loosely, they will obviously generate sound, making it difficult to stealth and informing thiefs that you are a good potential target.

On more serious note, they'd better resign from bottle caps and use regular money like in Fallout 2. It already didn't make much sense in Fo3 and it would be even more stupid to use them close to the West Coast if this currency has been dropped there.
 
I hope they put deathclaw matriarchs in and no poison cripples their legs. Then they would actually be feared for once.
