Intro

Hmm, the intro is an important part of the game for sure, since it sets the mode as well as giving the newcomers some idea of what kind of world it is. I really think it's time for Ella Fitzgerald to be given the Fallout nod, but can't really think of a song right now, since I don't know anything about the story or the direction the world will take. Everytime We Say Goodbye is a damn good tune though.

How about some ominous, foreboding original music made specifically for the game to creep people out and make them feel like they are about to step out into a cold, unforgiving wasteland?

If I was going to have a liscenced musical opening for a post-apocolyptic game it would be Skeletons of Society by Slayer, but that wouldn't really work right with the retro-futurisitic setting of Fallout...

Nope..

Skeletons of Society? Hell no.

Maybe Raining Blood if we were going for a Nuclear apocalypse scene, but that's stretching it. A LOT.

Not to mention that it doesn't even fit the atmosphere at all.

What the fuck are you smoking, snorting, ingesting, or injecting into yourself?

Easy there, killers... I didn't say for a Fallout game, I said if I were to make a post-apocolyptic game.

Skeletons of Society works perfect for a post-apocolyptic setting. Raining Blood is cool and all, but have you even heard Skeletons of Society, or listened to the lyrics? Works out perfect!

Anyways, I'd rather Fallout 3 have original opening music, like I said in my above post.

my brain is drooling at the very thought of it....

as for suggestions for a fallout intro song,... Zager and Evans - in the year 2525 is pretty fallouty for a 60s-70s song...

....meh' ive gots nothing.

I would beg to differ. Skeletons of Society is a nifty song and all, but it just doesn't lend any atmosphere to the situation. That's the purpose of using music in a video game. Its not about lyrics that fit the game, its about MUSIC that fits the game, and Skeletons of Society doesn't lend any sense of atmosphere whatsoever.

"Maybe" was about being alone, and the Vault Dweller was definately very alone at the end of the game. "A Kiss to Build a dream On" might have been about the GECK/Kiss thing, with the Dream being a future, which also makes sense in that the line "Give me a Kiss before you leave me," could be interpreted as the Vault 13 residents leaving the GECK, which, by a cosmic coincidence, is what saved Arroyo. Just another thought there.

I like EraserMark's idea, but what if you had that 'robbing the gas station' thing, only instead of the military kickin' their arse, they look up and see shadows. Then it's WOOOOSH... BOOM!!! Then it zooms out and it's a PIPBoy screen, and then you see a hand switch the PIPBoy off and the narrator begins his little "war never changes" blurb.
-I don't have powerpoint so I couldn't actually see your intro, EM.

OK, imagine this... Skeletons of Society (a post-apocolyptic metal song) playing over old stock footage of nuclear-bombs going off then enter like a lone wanderer or a Road Warrior-esque sort of car chase with the music playing... The tempo and the distorted sound would fit in great with a post-apocolyptic game's intro.

Maybe you got me confused and thought I thought it would be cool to have it IN game, during gameplay? Personally I LOVED the ambient music and sounds of Fallout; It gave you that eeiry sort of desolate feel that made you want to look over your shoulder whenever you heard ambient gunshots or dogs barking.

What don't you understand? Metal music doesn't fit into the 1950's feeling. Get over it. We already said that it would work for a post-apoc game, but not for Fallout.

And how would you hear these dogs barking and ambient gunshots if you had loud metal music being blared into your ear? Think about it.

Dude, what don't you understand? I didn't say for Fallout.

And I didn't say during gameplay. I said if I were to make a Post-Apocolyptic Game, hell, even an intro to a movie, thats the song I would use for my intro. In my first post I stated that I wouldn't use it for Fallout, just for a post-apocolyptic setting.

Yep you`re right flatline, but this is the Fallout3 forum, let`s keep things on topic ok?

The whole problem is there IS no gasoline. Unless they found a way to create gasoline without oil (can you do that?) this can't work. The oil of the worlds been used up so it wouldn't make a difference whether they wanted teh oil to be used on cars or to heat there houses. Perhaps a similar scenario can be done but with another resource in the place of oil.

Can you do that? Why yes, yes you can...

You can make anything into oil!

As for an intro song... I would personally go with "Gray Skies are Gonna Clear Up" AKA "Put on a Happy Face"

I think there was oil. I mean, they built the oil rig before the war, so they had gotten some oil out of there before China got going. And they weren't out of oil at that point. Then, after the war, there wasn't anyone left to use the oil, so I'll betchya you could still pump some gas out of a gas station if you tried. But in the wastes, people don't really use gas anymore, anyway. It's all run off of uranium or fuel cells.
