Is getting a PSP worth it?

No way, Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSP sucks. The dialogue is so ridiculous now that they've tried to medieval it up and it just sounds dumb. It lags, the sound effects suck, and the skill names aren't as good (though this is mostly just because I'm not used to them honestly). Get it for the PS1 if you get that game. It's the better version.

The dialogue in Tactics was never anything spectacular to begin with, which is why I don't care. The excellent character and combat system was preserved, which is why it's still the same game on the PSP.
Mine has never lagged, perhaps it's your UMD?

They are the same as tactics for the PS1

I have to agree with you on this, at first it was difficult, and I didn't understand why they changed the original idiotic translations to even more idiotic translations, but you definitely get used to them if you play for a while.

The dialogue was never great, but it's unbearable for me on the PSP. I seriously laughed for about five minutes when one of the raiders used the word moppets. Just sounded incredibly ridiculous in context.

The game lagging and desynching with the sound is a problem I have had and is not uncommon. It's one of the complaints leveled at it in reviews actually.

As for the sound effects most sound much worse coming from the PSP's speakers, and some have been changed, most notably Night Sword.

The skill names I'm sure I'd get used to to be honest, but I just prefer the original much more for all those small reasons. If you don't have a PS1/2 or just want a portable version of it don't hesitate to buy it. It's still basically the same great game despite those flaws.
