I always thought something is off with Fallout 4's Vault Boy.
First I thought it was just biased because I don't like Fallout 4, but today I was looking at some perks over at gamepedia and my wife passed behind me and said "Why does that character look worst in the colored pictures?"
She doesn't play Fallout and she doesn't have a bias toward the game. So I start thinking that maybe the quality of the Vault Boy drawings got worst somehow.

So I am writing this thread to ask you guys that have younger eyes and probably a better judgement of style than I do to tell me what you think about the Vault Boy in Fallout 4.

I noticed that it still uses a lot of recycled Vault Boy images from older games but it seems that with each newer game they just scan the images and then draw over them again, and that it loses quality each time they do it or something. I always have this feeling that the lines of Vault Boy in Fallout 4 were made by kids or someone with no practice in drawing things. Even perspective in some images look wrong (for a quick example check the foot of the Vault Boy in the image for the perk Animal Friend I will post below).

I wouldn't mind having the opinion of people who actually draw, but I don't know many of those around here, I guess @Walpknut and @alec . So if you draw, come and give me your opinion.

Some examples:

Also notice how the previous image uses the same Vault Boy as the Medic one:

They look worse because of 'less is more'.

Fallout 1-2-3-NV are normally simpler in design, and lack colour, making a sense of nostalgia, and makes them look more fitting for a pseudo-1950's game.

I like it really. I loke the little animation for some of the missions in fallout 4 tbh its porbbaly one of th ebetter things done in fallout 4. There was't bad in the games either though

He was't featured that much in the orginals I also noitced was actually spelt vault tek

Colourist's fault, it looks cheap. Even worse in animation. Not only that but Vault Boy animated even in Pip-Boy which doesn't make much sense. Pip-Boy is not a kid's toy after all.

Yeah...They turned what was originally a PDA-serious device (like the stalker PDA ;D ) into a childs toy...

To me, Fallout 4's looks much, much more cartoonized. And because of that, it looks definitely worse.

Although, to be perfectly honest, since Fallout 3 is my first game of the series, there's certain sense of wonder and veneration I had for 3's and NV's style. 4's definitely off for me.

I might be alone in this, but does anyone else think Vault Boy is overused in Fallout 4? EDIT: I feel like he has too much presence.

Tbh I liked Vault Boy best in Fallout 4. Aside from him being on the face of many quests and such, he also makes an appearance on the S.P.E.C.I.A.L PSAs (which I enjoyed by the way)

Uhh, maybe a bit. Yeah, he has way more screen-time than he usually does in a Fallout game. Though I love Vault Boy so I don't mind

Some of them look better, some look worse, and some are the exact same. The only real difference is the fact that the Vault Boy is more featured in 4 so you tend to notice it more.

No, but the fact that Bethesda thinks everything is Vault Boy now, shows their grave missunderstanding of the franchise in generall.

Tell the Nu-Fallout fans that there was a Pipboy once, and they will either give you a strange look, or think that you're talking about the device on the 'wrist' of vaultdvellers.

Somewhat off-topic, but I went to a seaside town last week and I've just remembered I saw a diner there with the Made Man Vault Boy icon as its logo.

Is that even legal?

Yes, along with the overuse of "War never changes" too.

Probably not. There was also a moving company that had the Strong Back Vault Boy on their trucks.
