It's been 6-7 years, and I actually feel bad for still preferring this game.

The problem with Fallout 4s combat is, the better Bethesda makes the Combat, the futher away is it from Fallouts combat. I see a lot of 'praise' for F4s combat, and I am pretty puzzled by that. Why? Well all that Bethesda did was making it closer to a shooter. Big deal. Wow! We never had shooter combat in gaming before! It's just literaly every first person game out there has some kind of pew-pew stuff going on. You point at something and presh the mouse button till it dies. How inovative. And because F3s combat was so bad, people applaud Bethesda for the improvements. But even if Fallout 4 would be the best first person shooter on the planet ... it would still not be Fallout combat mechanics.

Didn't they get another company to do the actual combat mechanics or am I remembering wrong?

To me Fallout 4's combat just LOOKS better but that's not a praise, it's a thing we should expect with the advances of video gaming technology. Mechanically is pretty terrible.

I remember they had them as support, how much of ID is in Fallout 4s combat though? Did they just help out, or have they done everything for them.

Who would have thought some 20+ years ago, that Fallout will get a Doom team behind it making the combat for the game ...

IMO, its kinda hard to be an RPG, and be realtime at the same time.

The whole idea of an RPG, is you play a role (Hence the R).

The second the player can actually improve that role by mere reflexes/knowledge of something, it kinda ceases to be a roleplaying game.

No matter how smart you are, how fast you are, or how strong you are, the player has 0 ability to decide who wins or loses in Fallout 2, assuming both sides are equally matched.

You might try for an eye shot...Then have you gun explode in your face.

Or you might get a lucky crit and 1 shot the fucker.

Depends on what your CHARACTER has in terms of stats.

In this area, 3-NV-4 kinda fails.

Right out of the doc's place, assuming I picked up an AMR, I could kill a deathclaw, easy peasy.

Even if you tag, say, energy weapons, and get power armour AND a turbo plasma rifle, a deathclaw is probably going to kill you easily in fallout 1-2, unless you get those levelups.
