MTV Multiplayer talks post-apocalyptic society with Fallout: New Vegas lead J.E. Sawyer.<blockquote> "One major theme in the game is that we talk about rebuilding in the image of the old world, and whether that's valid or not. For example, the New California Republic sees themselves as the torchbearers of the republic that existed in the pre-war world. They are the voice of democracy. People have representation with them. They don't enslave people. They have laws and stuff like that.

"Whereas Caesar's Legion -- which is inspired by Rome and is led by an incredibly charismatic, cunning and intelligent guy -- is specifically emulating things from the Roman empire because their leader believes that that is the only way to bring order into such a chaotic world."</blockquote>

If the incredibly charismatic, cunning and intelligent guy is the one caesar that was named in Van Buren, then this might be one of the first signs of "canonical changes" (if we go on the assumption, that Van Buren events are canon). New Vegas plays so many years after 2238, it's very unlikely for him to still be alive.

Could also mean there is a new one, who is incredibly charismatic, cunning and intelligent as well and this all means nothing.

Just saying.

I'm not sure you can say Van Buren is completely canon, seeing as it never was released, but I use it to spice up the entire Fallout universe. THe more the merrier. As long as it's good.

Aaand, it might just be a reference to the Van Buren character. I guess we wont find out unless someone ASKS.

If they are really intent on pushing Fallout beyond the more pure post-apocalypse of Fallout 1, I think the political stuff that Sawyer mentions is the way to do it.

The best part of Fallout 2 to me is the interactions between the various societies and the impact the player can have on them. The Vault City/NCR/New Reno/Redding connections are great and I really hope they can provide some of that even though the scope of the gameworld itself is a lot smaller in New Vegas.

maybe they are using the same ceasar but they put him in the time of New Vegas.

That's what I mean with the "first official canonical change", if we assume that the Van Buren story or the story elements are canon.

to me that will make Van Buren not canon because you are taking elements from an unfinish game and changing his story for the story of NV.

you have imagine that to them VB is uncanon, so they are taking thing to make them canon

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what he said. It is canon (to some extent) right now, but wont be if anything made in the future contradicts VB13 canon.

I just hope the leader of Ceasar's Legion won't turn out to be a computer or some other stupid shit like that.
