Jason Mical restarts Fallout PnP

What seems to make the most sense is to stat out the guns that were included in the games in the base PnP, and then to stat out real life weapons in a supplement for people who are interested.

The best part about making this project a wiki.. there is no "right" answer. It's community ownership. :) I'm going to love being a part of this project!

By the way, I just started a PnP campaign with my girlfriend and our friend based on the Van Buren design docs :).

Is there anyone working on a d20 conversion project, now that Glutton Creeper's Fallout d20 is canceled?
I would love this, since i don't know GURPS at all...

Not sure what GURPS has to do with anything, Jasons Fallout PnP uses the rules from the Fallout computer game. GURPS was going to be used for the original Fallout but at the last moment the deal fell through.

As to FOD20, at some point in the future I may turn my hand to that project but for now I think our focus is on using the real Fallout rules.

FOD20 also suffered from having to use D20 Modern as a base ruleset, after spending some time with those rules I have decided that they really suck.

Yeah, i had forgotten that.

Why don't u make your own adaptation from the original d20 (D&D) rules?

i wish i'd know about this a few months ago. i did my own tinkering of Jason's fallout pnp, mostly with the intention of streamlining it for less complicated play. i did throw in things i found in other documents, new traits, perks, a few skills, stats for robots and other critters, expanded on the vehicles and enhancement section, even drew up a character sheet.

i think making certain things optional through supplements is a great idea. im interested to see what ideas you have Matt and to see what the unfinished edition of the pnp.

My goal, beyond making a good set of Fallout rules, is to make the rules expandable into other modern and sci-fi settings. I have never been really happy with any of the modern/sci-fi rulesets I have GM'd. I think the core Fallout systems can be modified for other uses.

Converting SPECIAL to d20 is difficult business unfortunately. The best way to do it would probably be to come up with a d20-based system like Green Ronin's Mutants and Masterminds system, but even that could get awkward. Eventually you have to make a bunch of concessions to the original system to convert it properly, and you'll start ending up with something that isn't quite Fallout - especially if you consider the system to be an integral part of the game/setting.

I'm actually working on a simple translation of your rules to german, Jason.

With your admittance I would show the effect of this translation to the community instead of just our little Gaming-Group.

I think one should first have the translation. After that, there surely could be a Wiki about it in German if that is no problem to you to make.

But a PDF is neat too, cause if a group wants to play it with the German rules it should have something to print. Wikis are good for finding new Ideas and stuff imho.

GM: Okay, the three raiders are attacking you, Larry.
Larry: But I'm behind Moe! How can they hit me?
GM: You're not behind Moe, here's here, the green die with a 6.
Larry: I thought he was the green die with a 4.
GM: No, that's a shrub.
Moe : Then what's the chess pawn?
GM: That's Curly.
Curly: No, I'm here, the wad of gum. Remember we told you our marching order.
GM: Oops sorry. You have to increase your radcount then since you're in a puddle of goop.
Curly: What!? Fine, I'll mark it off.
GM: Hey, don't take that pencil, that's the barbed wire fence.
...

Don't be a Stooge, kids. Play with miniatures!

I've done some research on compatible minis, terrain, and scenery (on my website) and can add a wiki page about that along with info about commercial and homemade hexmaps.

You know you can play it online.

That's what I've used for my PnP campaigns.

there are fallout miniatures? o_o

There are plenty of soldiers, armed civilians, road warrior style gang members minatures, etc. on the market, to populate a Fallout game.

Aside from Jason Mical's SPECIAL and J.E. Sawyer's SIMPLE, are there any other non-commercial PnP based on Fallout out there?

I'm aware of:
Charles R. Capko Jr.'s Badlands (PNP based on Wastleland)
Elodious' D20 conversion
William Home's Fallout Tactics PnP
Pauli Hakala's gurps Conversion
Krapou's other gurps conversion
Quintin Stone's Cinematic Unisystem conversion.
