Jericho (post-apoc TV show)

So CBS is airing a post-apocalyptic TV series this Fall. I haven't seen any previews, but the plot synopsis sounds interesting:

Thirty-two year old Jake Green (Skeet Ulrich) plans a brief return to his childhood home in rural and isolated Jericho, Kansas, to much fanfare from his mother and friends, who have had only intermittent contact with him. Jake appears to be hiding something, as each of his interactions with one of the town's citizens elicits different explanations of why he was out of touch for so long, which include playing minor league baseball and joining the Navy. Despite objections from his mother, Jake plans to leave Jericho as quickly as he arrived.

During Jake's exit from town, the electronic equipment in and around Jericho begins to fail. At the same time, a mysterious, possibly nuclear explosion occurs to the west (presumably at Denver, Colorado), and a mushroom cloud suddenly becomes visible above the Rocky Mountains. Distracted by the explosion, Jake is involved in a car accident, and is forced to walk back to Jericho. As he returns to the town, evening falls - and news spreads that a second explosion has occurred in Atlanta, Georgia.

With communications and power out, Jake and the small town of Jericho face the challenge of being physically and psychologically isolated from the outside world - not knowing what is left of that world, or how many others are still alive - and of finding a means of survival in the midst of panic and chaos.

Name of the second episode is "Fallout."

Are there Mormons in this Jericho? Inquiring mind wishes to know.

I rarely watch TV anymore, but I'm actually interested in this show. Too bad it's pretty much guaranteed to be canceled considering it's up against Bones and Dancing with the Stars.

Then again, I thought Lost would be canceled too. Resulting in me missing half of the first season since I thought it would end up flopping anyway. I wasn't wrong when it came to Invasion and Threshold, though- but at least Jericho isn't being jammed into the 10-11 PM timeslot like Invasion was.

Jericho just doesn't seem like it's going to be the next "breakout drama with a one word title" that every major network is clambering for. I will be watching it though, if only because the promos make me think of The Stand. If it's canceled, oh well. At least Atlanta will have gotten what it had coming.

And there'll still be Battlestar Galactica.

This word here is defined here. Check it out, dude!

What I meant was that Clive Barker stands little chance in Hell of suing CBS and winning over something like that. Not that it would ever happen in the first place.

Ok.

I suppose Clive Barker will fix this problem by changing the name to:

"Jericho: Suffering of the tortured sado victims"

(or something in that fashion)

I saw the first episode just before, and while it's interesting it plays a lot like a bad b-movie to me.

Don't get me wrong, the premise is great and I wasn't bored by the first episode, but I don't think it's the kind of show the average merkin will feel comfortable watching or have the patience for.

I don't disagree, I doubt it will last more than a few episodes. The odds just aren't stacked in its favor.

In addition to Bones and Dancing with the Stars it is also competing with 30 Rock, which I'm pretty stoked about. I doubt I'll even watch this show, and I have TiVo.

Looks cool! Thanks, Malk.

This show better not turn religious or spiritual, though. I'm sick of all that stuff. Stephen King couldn't drop it with The Stand. Science please.

I actually really liked the first episode (and yea its rather expected but cool that the second is called "Fallout"). Perhaps it was my imagination getting excited about what 'could be' with the show, but the few mystery plot points I thought were awesome, especially the second answering machine tape scene.

Cheers

Watched it tonight to see what it was about... expecting sompthing bad but it wasnt really all that bad.

Hope it plays out though and isnt cancled... if it isnt and turns out good then prob will be buying the series on DVD.

So far I would give it a B+, but I didnt see the preview that aired a while back, just the one tonight.

Looks good.

Going to watch it tonight as it premieres tonight on Channel Ten for all Sydeny people!

I just saw the first episode. It was a little slow for me. Hopefully it will pick up.

What I didn't understand is why the cars and power were still working after the initial blasts. I thought EMP bursts fry unshielded electronics. Perhaps distance is a factor?

I dont think distance is a factor EMP is 20 times larger and stronger than the A-bomb explosion so theres no reason for cars or communication to be still functional... its a BIG error that those guys made.

The first ep wasn't bad IMHO.
But yeah, they messed up on EMP.
How did that kid's mom call from Atlanta? The EMP would've killed that city's local phone (switching) system before the physical shock wave hit her I think.

The EMP's radius depends on the design of the bomb, and it was pretty far away, after all. Phones aren't working, for instance.
