Jeuxvideo.fr plays Fallout 3

Not sure what to make of such a schizophrenic article that condemns the game for not feeling "alive", then praises the atmosphere. Also, I'm not sure why having some Oblivion mechanics will automatically disappoint Fallout fans, I suppose I had never realized the two fanbases were mutually exclusive. Sounds to me like Oblivion dialogue is pretty much the same as Fallout: the game world pauses, we see a close up of the NPC's face, and select from a list of dialogue options. Let me know if I'm wrong. Also, having never played the game I can't really argue with the PipBoy being unintuitive, but from screens I've seen it looks pretty straightforward, and I don't think I've seen any other previewers complain about it. Strange.

(For example I thought The Matrix Trilogy, LoTR, and Starwars Eps1-3 weren't all that great, I can't get through starwars episode 2 without fallling asleep on the couch, I've tried several times.)

I don't think I know anyone who thought the Matrix sequels or the Star Wars prequels were anything great; your seems to be the popular opinion in fact.

We could not see the PC version, but we certainly DO hope that on this platform, the studio has understood the lesson a little better.

I doubt the PC version is going to be any different.

What was the main platform they were developing on?

p.s.

Jesuit, Ranne, are you guys done? no really, your argument is very interesting, please go on :D

If you read any other forums regarding this preview you'll know that I'm not the only who made this mistake. Of course, your eye-rolling doesn't really surprise me as, being a software developer myself, I'm reminded everyday of how immature and unable to effectively communicate most people in our field tend to be. Should I link you to a list of the multiple definitions of 'atmosphere' just to top it off? Nah.

So how much do you get paid for your forum trolling? I, for one, am getting pretty sick of your attitude. And it's not that you disagree, it is that you take disagreements to an unreasonable level. And you have no ability to see the other side of the coin at all.

It is pretty clear what the intention was, render does have more that one meaning, sorry your too dense to realize that fact.

Software Developer? Any reason at all you bring that up? Trying to up your "Bitching" nerd cred or something? I don't think making oblivion mods in your parents basement qualifies you as a software developer though.

I'm in a hurry and I really don't want to further drag myself into this crap. Let me just say that there's a world of difference between
"the world is beautifully rendered"
and
"the Mad Max atmosphere we were talking of is rather well rendered"
For one, there aren't that many graphical engines out there that have atmosphere rendering capabilities, if you really choose to be literal...

Well the problem is that the french article says something like "le monde à la Mad Max est bien rendu", something which could have something to do with graphics rendering per se but is more likely to be about the general feeling and atmosphere of the game which cannot easily be translated into english without using the word rendered. It's a rather french notion and I don't really know how to translate it.

I think part of the schizoacity in the preview is due to the fact that french (or any of the romantic languages for that matter) doesn't take kindly to being translated into english.

Nah, for once, my translation was not to blame  The original article also felt weird. I understood it like that :

-The engine and graphics suck
-The design is pretty generic and far from fallout
-The whole thing lacks of life
-But the wasteland looks still cool somehow

But I may be wrong ( even thoug I agree with all of the above if the author really meant that ).

It was like Fallout without guns.

Not to sound like a dick or anything, but Final Fantasy XII did have guns.

With the appropriate skill-set, any of the characters in your party could use guns.

But I do agree with you on the combat system and over-all storyline being a rip-off of Star Wars.

Aren't most storylines in JRPGs rip offs from movies or other JRPGs?

I guess all games in a way are but it is the way how you present it to a player, even then a tried and test story can be fun again.

I didn't mean literally what I meant was that the way the combat system was completely neutered felt like how fallout would have felt without guns.

Oh. Gotcha.

I don't even know what to think of the screenshots/videos for FF13 :( It looks like DDR meets Xenogears meets Resident Evil(movies not games) meets Tomb Raider

A traditionally turn-based series goes real-time and is filled with teh epic gun battelz wif crazy jumpyng and giant boom-booms?

Yeah, I know where you're coming from.
