Jim "NMA should shut up about Bethesda" Sterling hates 76

Tbf, even Mister Caption hates NMA and we looked up to him for a while.
Face it, we are a sight of degenerates and bitter depressed assholes.
Yet we love it really.

Oh, I don't give a shit about him hating NMA lol. It's the rest of it that amuses me. NMA is what you say.

[Insert that overused batman quote about being a dark knight here]

My question is, does Jim Sterling really deserve a separate thread about his opinions on FO76? Is he truly an authority on video games or is he just another guy on YT who has his opinions like any of us?

I dunno about you but my opinions aren't followed by 700,000 people and my current opinion on 76 hasn't been viewed by 300,000 people.

Numbers don't make him any less of an idiot, but he is a more notable idiot than myself.

I'm sure you're gonna be the next Jim Sterling, just hang on a few more decades. I'm jealous of you.

Tangentially related, here's my Jim Sterling Costume.

Another aspect I think we should consider is timing. We all know Bethesda's calling cards now in 2018, but back in February of 2010, the Bethesda games the mainstream public had to go on were Morrowind (which many people, even on NMA like), Oblivion, and Fallout 3. I know there were several previous Bethesda games but the three were the most visible. New Vegas wasn't out yet so timewise nobody could compare it to F3. Most folks would probably chalk up F3's shortcomings to "it's Bethesda's first Fallout" and move on. Only NMA (and RPGCodex I guess) notice everything wrong with the game because of how long this franchise has been loved here.

So when Jim is calling NMA "unpleasable" in that article, it's just the result of time and not being a hardcore fan. And like I said before, is that a flaw on his part? Yeah maybe, but how many franchises have we all enjoyed, either legitimately or ironically, only for their fanbase to tear it to shreds? Even something like New Coke, probably tasted alright to someone outside the Coke fanbase, but everyone hated how it replaced the Classic.

The article post dates New Vegas.

Well, looks like Sterling is going all in on his new anti-Bethesda stance.

What is good or bad is subjective. He thinks FO76 is a change for the worse, yet he's unable to imagine that FO3 could be a change for the worse for someone who loved the original games. It's just plain old hypocrisy. Well, at least he finally seems to have been enlightened about Bethesda. Better late than never.

He addressed the fact that a lot of people called him hypocrite for not liking the changes in Fallout 76 after he basically scrutinized the people who didn't liked the changes in Fallout 3 right at the end of that video.

So, he knows that changes can be good AND bad and yet, wrote an article mocking everyone who hated the changes in Fallout 3 and also basically said they don't just like change. Not that the changes were good or bad, just that there were changes.

These last few days have been kind of eye-opening to why a lot of people don't like him. It seems he's a fan of twisting certain subjects to fit his narrative.

To be fair, he said that like a decade ago. It's possible that he's had a change of heart in that time.

Pretty much. NMA itself has changed a bit over the course of 8 years, dunno why someone like Jim can't have their mindset change. I think quite a few NMA members played Fallout 3, enjoyed it and then played NV and changed their minds about F3. Should we hold that against them? No we shouldn't, opinions change and it seems like Jim's did.

He himself admits it in the video, "I liked the changes in FO3, didn't like the changes in FO76".
When he said that I'm pretty sure he was referring to the fact he thought the change from Isometric to 3D was good in his opinion. Which isn't necessarily wrong, I think New Vegas was pretty good and it was 3D. I think most people do, though I know you don't like New Vegas and there's nothing wrong with that. He also kinda admits indirectly that F3 was flawed, as he stated that by taking away NPC's and towns in 76 it revealed how garbage a Bethesda game can be, all the cracks begin to show.
