John Rambo is ...

ull of gore,
blood splatting,
kicking and slapping woman,
child killing,
man get blown into chunky bits of red meat,
half the skull gets shredded by a .50 caliber,
child molester,
war in jungle,
missionary trip goes SNAFU,
lot's of chopping,
pig eating man,
nuke-size claymore explosion,
gruesome death that makes Texas chainsaw massacre like sesame street.

Sounds like Fallout without the storyline. I'm seeing this shit.

Aye. Here's the Rambo chart from the LA Times.

I can't think of a single thing that's positively influenced my opinion on whether or not I should see this film more than the last line of that chart. Any nonzero number would've relegated this one to a drunken MST3k rental.

He's old, but probably more in shape than any of you cheeto-eaters. I mean, damn, it's a Rambo movie, it's supposed to be filled with blood 'n guns.. did you expect a dramatic and gripping dialogue, character development, or any of that academy award-winning intellectual horseshit?

Remember First Blood? Even as a wee tiny lad, I loved that movie for it's nuances as much as for the action. It was brutal, but it was arresting and sensitive, too.

Let's make a Fallout analogy: Imagine we got Fallout 1, and then instead of trying for FO2, or even Tactics, they instead turned around and instantly dropped F:PoS. And then they did it again, only their selling point was bigger guns and more convincing explosions. Personally, even if I thought there was a chance that I'd enjoy it, I'd be a little reserved and probably still a tad sore when they announced F:PoS 3.

That said, I'm sure it's an action movie in the good old mold, and just as ridiculous as it's forebears, and I'll probably enjoy it as such.

Maybe so, but unlike some action heroes, I can reach the top shelf at the grocery store :P

Stallone isn't the fighter people figure him for. I'd pitch a boxer with half a year experience against him and that boxer would win. Sly was never someone who could actually fight, anymore than Schwarzey. It's the Jean-Claude's or Bwuce Wee's who can.

Yeah, First Blood was an excellent movie with a strong point to make, even if its delivery was flawed it's still clear what it's trying to say and how the movie serves to deliver that message.

Ever since First Blood Rambo has been just about shooting. And that's something you could complain about around First Blood II, but it's kind of not a valid complaint anymore, the series is basically about stupid violence now, perhaps like Fallout will be about actiony action as a franchise, after Fallout 3.

I guess I just figured that resuming a franchise after a 20-year hiatus could give you a little wiggle room to take it in a new (or in this case, an old) direction. Guess you've got to give the people what they want, though.

Eh, it's still Hollywood. In some ways, taking it back the old-skool action is already pretty daring from a major block-buster perspective.

Actually including a deep story is probably too risky.

Depends on whether you mean Hollywood deep or socially relevant deep. First Blood was the latter, and I think it could've worked here depending on how they wrote it, especially given the current world political climate. There's no shortage of social issues that a world-weary combat vet wouldn't make a bloody and interesting lens for these days.

Of course, they were going out on a limb taking the action movie back to it's glory days (and then some), no one can deny that. As I say, it's something I'm probably interested in seeing, just with caveats. (Even still, I can't believe that this thing got beaten out at the box office by Meet the Spartans. My people, my people... )

You can't seriously expect much from a sequel that's a sequel to a sequel to a sequel of First Blood. I enjoyed First Blood as much as the next guy, but First Blood, however great it was, merely composes one quarter of the series of Rambo films, a majority of which is filled with mindless violence and lacking credible plot. I haven't seen the latest installation, and I don't need to see it to say that it is nowhere near the first film of the series. It's simply a popcorn flick with lots of guns and things that go boom. Any person expecting to see a sequel that does the first film justice is basically a doofus, and needs to read up on various sequels coming out of Hollywood in the recent years.

I wasn't aware of that being an action hero has height requirements. Nevertheless, I prefer to see a fossil like Stallone in movies like these, instead of some Affleck-type prettyboy.

Good to see that the oldies are still going strong. Speaking of which, I'm hoping to see Dirty Harry: Wrinkled Avenger in theaters soon,

Welcome to my world.

It's better to not expect something out of the majority as more times than not, they'll end up doing the exact opposite.

Also hilarious, if they followed the book for First Blood we'd never have had to deal with this entire series.

SPOILERS DUDESSSS!!!!!!!!

He dies at the end because he was too crazy to back to the Army.

SPOILERS OVER DUDESSSS!!!!!!!!

I'm going tomorrow with some of my friends and my girlfriend. Yay!! This thread convinced me even more to go see that movie.

That is one of the most brutal movies I've ever seen. I was laughing through almost the entire movie, the carnage was amazing. See this movie.

Woah ... well,Rambo brings back Childhood memories in the first place.Guess it is a must see for me then !

OMG, i just saw it.
"Stomps on a kids head and shoots him with an ak-47."
Brutal action, true.

You could see on Rambo's/Stallone's face that he didn't like to talk in the movies, he didn't like having lines. I could almost hear his thoughts: "Hmrph stop talking to me people and give me something to kill and eat!" "Pretty blonde girl..."

Anyway, it was lots of fun. At the end i was thinking, man, maybe a sheriff comes by and then "here we go again!"....

Jean-Claude got his ass kicked in a bar in Romania last year by two guys. I don't know how much he can fight.

But Rambo isn't that much about fighting as it is about murdering with machineguns. (or machettes/knives) I saw the movie a couple of days before and I must say it was one of the most entertaining action movies i've ever seen. Two thumbs up on my part.

yeah, because Martial Arts make you instantly capable of dealing with 2 threats at once, right?

fuck off, retard. martial arts training might give you the edge over a single attacker and some better situational insight, but it doesn't magically make you superior to two barfighters under all circumstances, you know.

not that i like Mr Muscles from Brussels, but what a fucking moronic thing to say...
