Fallout 3 suggestions

Ok here is an idea I've been thinking of for a while now and meaning to post.

There is no clear boss no, good or evil boss even. What I think is that there should be factions, Vault City, NCR, mutants etc. The game starts low-tech, you have nothing except maybe a little money. You go out and kill some Geckos eventually learning to skin them. Then you base a business around them laying traps to catch them (Smaug's idea) And extending your business, you visit say the Enclave. And as someone on the board once said maybe Horrigian could have been dragged off before the rig exploded and was pieced back together tougher meaner etc. And you join the Enclave. They give you a set of combat armour send you on some quests and then later you move up in rank until they modify you until you're so high-tech your like Horrigian. And there's a war between all the factions and the end game challenge is to defeat the other faction boss's. That's not just one. If you attack say Vault City then you'll have to finish off a guy in the overseer's chair in the vault. Of course you'd have to kill a lot of others first. Then you eliminate them from the struggle and then you could say be attacked by the BOS in a vertibird copy and have to defend against a large steel knight. Perhaps Kin Arthur with a wizard called Merlin. Well tech wizard with fancy laser pulses. And then you beat them and win the game. Of course there's hundreds of sub-quests the map from both games and more!!! And you can visit towns that aren't involved that you need help from. For instance using Fallout 2 as an example, if you convince Vault City and gecko to ally then Vault city expands making the city bigger and then they can spare more mercenaries to help you because they can use more laser turrets. A bonus to you for helping your faction. Also maybe if you scouted Gecko they would give you some info on the Ghouls. Perhaps you could capture one and learn of its physiology therefore learning to fight them better. And if you went to NCR you would get a tactical advantage for instance when you launch an attack party there they would reach the location better. It could also provide undercover vaultsmen there who help you while you're there. The more you give the more you get. Plus a "Strategy" aspect to the game while still keeping it role-play. What I mean is the option to attack certain cities like going on a caravan. You get to customise a squads equipment and armour and chose some differently skilled lower ranking (Then you) officers then go attack another city. You could either do this voluntarily or be ordered to. These ideas allow you to replay the game not only as a different style of character but under the rule of a different faction as well.

Also there was an idea once posted about colour coded areas for friendly and hostile territory. This is quite a good idea in conjunction with mine but only when your faction alerts you about them or when you've done the surveillance (Scouting gecko) Of course this only covers factions for instance NCR's territory the mutants territory etc.

Finally some ideas on bases.
A base given to you by your faction, this could be an apartment in NCR a house in Vault City, Quarters in the brotherhood or the barracks room of the Enclave. This is just a storage place. And please the option to "talk" to your room, use the speech window for instance sleep or eat or shower. Like in your room in junktown of Fallout 1. Also your own set up of a base, a hut in the wasteland which you can customise by adding motion sensors linked to computers which alert you if anyone approaches. And weapons on the sides depending on how far you are into the game. Also the option to leave a party member on guard, and the realistic random thing as of your house being raided unless you leave people to protect it or use other methods. This is still role-play even though some argue it's not.

Well not so final actually I just thought of more
Party members, Just before writing this I was cruising through all the old post (As usual) and I found an idea about tags next to party members allowing them to change armour while you still know who they are. I think an option would work, between armour with tag, armour without tag, clothes with tag, clothes without tag. Party members (Which I'll call NPCs if you don't mind) should have more options, special perks to skin Geckos and such. You should also be able to set a shop or stand and then return to pick up a little money off of them. Of course you couldn't just say "Stay here and work" You would (Using Lenny as an example) Need to but a place an autodoc and some infirmary tables. You would need doctor's kits and stuff. Also they should be able to do stuff like use tools and heal you. Of course the nost profitable business would be a slaver and a pimp. Think about it all you need is a couple of girls and a bed. And a few slaves and a room or cage. You could let Vic carry repair tools Myron science etc. Also you could have them guard your base to stop it getting plundered. You could have them operate motion sensors and weapons.
Also you should be able to hire mercenaries to guard stuff. I leave that till a later post though

Some minor last (For now) thought.
You should be able to buy large items and carry them on a car or truck, for instance infirmary tables autdoc etc. You should be able to get vertibirds and my final good idea a of this post

Caravans. Modern types and fallout types. You could pull them by Brahmin or vechile and store stuff in it. You could also have caravan as in mobile house. You could store stuff and arm it and it would be a relaxing way for you to move with a chauffeur driving (Or a friend or NPC) You could also carry more stuff and run a business from there. It would carry lenny's infirmary tables and stuff. Only for end-game though.

I apologise if this is to long for you, and all thoughts comments (Even criticism) is welcome on any part. Also I wouuld like to say that I am preparing a Fan Fic based on some of these ideas that'll be out soon

Ummm, you had some really good ideas after that stink bomb of a plot scenario. Sorry, i "personally" didn't like your plot idea (friendly criticism)... the Enclave are nothing more than a few roving bands i am sure (if that at all)... and i don't want to see them rise again... least not in FO3... perhaps later, but if you had them in FO3 i think it'd get old. Part of the Fallout series is seeing new faces and tech. i do however like some of your technical ideas... like building your own house in the desert and having some of the perks that your normal person (NPC) in Fallout would. As far as creating your own "business" in the wastes... hmmmm, that might be a good idea. But then again it might not be. It might not fit with the idea of you being a solitary type person... the under dog trekking the wastes in search of peace. So, if you "start out as" a regular entrepreneur than it would be kind of hard to be the "chosen one." of course, you might go see a gypsy one day or a palm reader and they could tell you of your destiny. But, for some reason that idea doesn’t set well with me. I love the idea of being able to stock pile weapons and transport them as well... at least to some extent. Maybe you could attach a trailer to your car or something like that? In FO3 I’d like to see more enemies, more raiders and simply more people to blast into oblivion and a powerful arsenal of weaponry to kill them with. These are some big things i want for FO3:

I want it to be harder, longer, more complicated and i want the "end of game" play to be just as fun and "in depth" as the "in game" play.

Forget the faction thing, I don't think it would work well.

I like a little "base" idea. I always found a city close to the middle of the map and dumped my extra ammo, weapons, party members, etc. there for later use. It might be tough to fit it into the story realisticly but its still a good idea.

>>Party members (Which I'll call NPCs if you don't mind) should have more options, special perks to skin Geckos and such. You should also be able to set a shop or stand and then return to pick up a little money off of them.<<

More options? Yes. Set up a desert business? No. Having a small business in Fallout 3 wouldn't go over too well with many gamers. It would detract from the role-playing and become a little annoying ("Damn, I have to go back and re-supply the store!"). Maybe in an online game that would be a good idea, but not in a single player RPG.

Attaching a tailor to increase the storage space in you car would be a cool idea.

Hiring mercs for protection might work, but then again it kinda kills the "I'm alone against the world" theme. Maybe if there were only so many you could rent(?) and if they were expensive it might fit into the story. Just as long as they're not a waste of money like in Diablo II, and if they're not too powerful so they won't spoil gameplay balance. See how this idea is OK but tough to put in?

You think you could actually get your hands on a vetibird? Something tells me that the remanants of the Enclave took all of those away as fast as they could fly.

Caravans could work in a multiplayer but I don't think having your own caravan would work in a Single Player RPG. Escorting one is OK but not owning one.

Nononono!!!

I don't like the base stuff. if you have a base then you must check it once in a while and what happens if your stuff for 2000000+ you were going to sell has been stolen? I like the idea about being Mr Nobody and one day you must save your village, town, or whatever. Maybe it was attacked by raiders. You would see that in the intromovie.

"Call me a vagabond, and I'll smile. Call me a thief, and I'll laugh. Call me a liar, and I feed you your liver."

Get pissed off and start collecting again. The idea of the base is to store some things you can't use yet in one central location for easy access. Remember the first time you got your hands on a Minigun but your Big Guns skill was too low to use it porperly? Well, instead of carrying around that 50 pound monster (and all of the ammo) you could throw it into your base until you bring your skill up.

Maybe you could use the trap skill to put a trap on the door so nobody could go in without setting it off (finally a use for the Trap Skill!). Maybe you could lock the lockers or chests or whatever you are going to store your things in. How about locking the front door? I know it seems silly that a bunch of Raiders or Thieves whould be stopped by a lock on a door but who knows? Anything is possible in the Wastes.

Agreed.

Storyline... NOT!

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Nov-29-00 AT 05:25PM (GMT)[p]How about no storyline at all, just mindless wandering on wastelands and killing rats in caves. Character could be called Mr. NoPurpose.

I remeber times when i hided dragon heads into barrels at cities, must been a horror if somebody found them... Oh i'm writing shit again.

RE: Storyline... NOT!

I think there should be a storyline, but it doesn't become aparent until later in the game.

I'm fed up with the strucure of Fallout games, you go out to save your people and then when you get it somehting else has to be done that involves big guns!

RE: Storyline... NOT!

make yourself just a wanderer and then find a story line..nice idea..i love the enclave joining idea...thatd kick ass

I like your idea about designating bases... if you find a farm on the map, or a cave, or any locataion that you would like to set up a base at, leave an NPC, etc, then you could mark it on your PIP Boy so that there would be a location button on the world map and you could make your way back there anytime.

A lot of the stuff that you put, though, seems like it should go in a game similar to Metal Gear Solid, or a strategy game.

KNEEL BEFORE MY AWESOME POWER, MORTAL! Please? Pretty please?

Hey this post is old i didn't expect any more replies after so long, well if not much was posted ti wouldn't go down far.

Anyway if you stuff was stolen and (Using Fallout 2 as an example) Your tanker fob was stolen then you can't complete the game. Perhaps something could be put in so it can't be stolen or it is just moved to say a raider base if the raiders were the ones who attacked so you can possibly claim it back

improved artificial intelligence..no..not improved..ok..how can i put this...TWEAKED..artificial intelligence...such as..say you run across a merchant being raided...a good idea ((wich could promote alot of fast desicions and strategys) could be,if you help the merchant its translated over in not so much good karma but a more favorable reaction from merchants..whereas if you help the robbers they would let their raider brethren know of you...because ive noticed in random encounters sometimes youd get a merchant party vs.raiders but if you help one side they rarely will react favorably..sometimes if not always theyll just kill you indiscriminately
