Kid said video game is a waste of time.

It's quite uncommon to meet a kid who doesn't like video game.

11-year-old Moshe Kai Cavalin, who graduated from East Los Angeles Community College last week, has many interests ranging from astrophysics to the Rat Pack but video games are not among them. How come? The newly-minted holder of an Associates Degree of Liberal Arts explained:

"I feel it's a waste of time playing video games because it's not helping humanity in any way."

Perhaps a rather odd statement coming from a lad whose passions include martial arts, scuba diving and playing piano. He also aspires to be a movie actor.

I'm wondering, did he say that by himself? Or instruct by his folks as a marketing tool? :o

It is a personality thing, my girlfriend hates games with a passion so I mostly play when she's not around.

Still I was joking about this kid on another forum... it says his interests are martial arts and astro physics, meaning he might grow up to be the first man to kick an aliens ass.

I bet he got his ass kicked trying to play a game and now can't deal with it.

Though game ARE a waste of time.

That's idiotic, he might as well insult all the train hobbyists or model builders, their pastimes don't "help" humanity, but they fill up empty periods of time with nothing to do, give people a passion to provide fulfillment in their lives, and allow them to meet others with similar interests and socialize.

Hold on, wow, did any of you just see that? I just posted several easily understood reasons that gaming does in fact help humanity in some basic manner.

Somehow for his ability to graduate community college at such a young age, he's incapable of understanding deeper sociological effects derived from simple and mostly harmless activities.

We should make a thread about every thing that someone somewhere doesn't like.

So the kid doesn't like games, big deal..... He's not missing out on much anyway, at least in the state that the game industry is in now :D

Errrr um. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that kind of the point?
I mean really, I play games when there is nothing to do. Ya know, to waste time. Nobody can do something all the time.

No no, you see, he's saying it has no redeemable qualities.
See, you're placing it as a virtue, that it helps you waste time when you're bored.

He's saying it's a waste of time, similar to saying it's a waste of life because "it's not helping humanity in any way."

Save us from smug kids that think we need saving!

I'm reminded of the story of Chuang-Tzu and the 'useless' tree.

Pretentious dicks ruin humanity.

Then go beat up an 11 y/o if it makes you feel better, unless you are afraid of one who knows martial arts. I love it when a grownup judges a kid like a peer... "HE STARTED IT!".

As previously mentioned yes, games are a waste of time and thank god for that, every once in a while I do need to blow off some steam and help pass the time. Sure, I've learned photoshop and basic coding and stuff from games but I could have learned that in a variety of other ways.

I concur. It's quite funny how people on the internet can get offended by something 11 year old said. Cyberspace surely is bad for some of us..
Kid's statement surely sounds like textbook case of something a poster child for some college would say. "It doesn't help humanity..". Cuuute..
I'm pretty sure all of us have said plenty of much stupider things in that age though.

games give jobs to millions of people, give a reason to people like me learn english with 11 years old, and well, it's not the best way of acquire culture, but is one way of doing so. Games are not completely useless.

I've learned photoshop and basic coding and stuff from games but I could have learned that in a variety of other ways.

Games are not the best way of learning these things for sure, there are lots of better ways to learn things, but games are a very good way to make we get contact with things we like and we didn't knew.

No one needs to beat up pretentious dicks, they just need to humiliate them, I think he's done fine for himself in that regard when he ends up a burnout like 100% of all other young pretentious dicks.

EDIT: This kid is channeling Ben Biddick.
It's ok until he makes a public statement, then it's his own fault for putting himself up for scrutiny, the media does exist for a reason.
