Well, so could a tsunami if it was large enough to inundate a species entire range, but anyways.
True but wouldn't be as devastating as a supervolcano; you have to consider a Tsunami would mostly cover coastal areas, how far inland depends on the size and force of the wave.
A supervolcano on the other hand, you have tons (and I mean tons) of rocks and chunks of considerable size catapulted with tremendous force along with pyroclastic material which would devastate a wide area, tons of dust and debris that would be spewed in such quantities that could potentially block the sun. Then you have those massive rocks raining down with the force of a meteor scattering more dust and causing a lot of damage wherever they fall; the resulting crater would be miles wide and the amount of resulting gases could potentially alter global temperatures.
Did I forget to mention the monsoonlike torrents of acid rain that would result if a large body of water happened to be in the path of the lava flow or worse the crater?
