Left 4 Dead gone gold

Well for me, the Director is keeping things fresh, and I'm sure there's all sorts of little quirks and such that take a few play-throughs to find. Considering that each play through of a campaign takes about an hour for me on Advanced so far, and will probably take longer on Expert. Each play through will also be completely different thanks to the AI. Then you have Versus mode, as opposed to the Co-Op mode, and that promises to have a lot of play time to offer. I can easily see getting 40 hours or more out of the game. Which, frankly, is a lot more time than I think I got out of FO3 before I got bored.

The game is as fun as the people you play it with. If you have a bunch of jerks or non-mic people (or at least people who don't communicate) then the game will be boring. But if you've got a lot of people who work together, it's amazing.

Well my play last night went rather mixed. We stormed through hordes and hordes and hordes of zombies, hoping for medkits along the way which rarely show their face. Which is not a bad thing to me, makes it feel more like survival. We got to the hospital roof, and we got wipe about three times or so, damn the tanks and witches that spawned in our way. Haha. Fun stuff there.

Problem, even if you host a friend's only game, my friends friends can jump in. Some douche who played a total of five minutes before joined, my buddies friend. Begging us to join a multiplayer frag fest. I am so tired of those. That's why I got this game.

He was kicked simply because he got us wiped four more times cause he didn't know how to hide his head and got killed more times than anyone.

Tho', I am having a fucking blast playing with my friends, they're smart about it. We just need a fourth player who isn't a total asstard.

My Steam ID is the same as my user name: LogisticEarth
I'm all about sticking with the group, and forming proper arcs of fire and whatnot.

when i played the demo i would play several times in a row and the mobs would change spots. was a little different because couldnt expect everything to be the same.

Just how lengthy is the singleplayer and is there any split screen cooperative gameplay, or did that form of multiplayer just die out completely in the past few years?

There will be a split screen option in the pc version later.

As far as I know, they cutted it out of the pc demo because of bugs or so. I've read, that they want to include it again.

so what's the concensus on this? worth wasting money on? or wait til it's in the bargain bin?

Ya know it's gonna be a while but I cannot wait for expansions and new content for this one, if ever anyways.
I am still playing it to death and not getting bored.
Slightly off topic, I played Fallout 3 about the same amount of time as this and got bored with Fallout 3.

Anyhow. Playing the Versus mode is fun as hell. However, I wish they didn't split it up into sections.
I feel as though it shoulda been, one side infected, one side survivors for the whole episode then switched after it was over. It would made the score competing a little more "nail biting" but it's still fun.
Surprisingly, having no story doesn't hurt this game at all.

There's some talk about new content here: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=312748
I just hope it's free for PC users as usual.

Also, it may not have a story, but the characters are great. I love it whenver there's some chatter between them.
I really liked the guy in the church too, thinks he's in the Death Toll campaign. [spoiler:6ca5437325] "I have a bell and I'm not afraid to use it!" "DING DONG DING DONG! DINNER'S SERVED! COME AND GET IT!" [/spoiler:6ca5437325]

It did have a story. Each campaign was connected through (skippable) cutscenes so that it actually made sense, and wasn't just a disjointed frag fest.... until the playtesters got to it.

The playtesters were angered by cutscenes showing their rescue crash/blow up, and felt that it ruined their "reward" for "winning" a campaign. Apparently playing it and having fun while doing so isn't enough... guessing these were 360 playtesters.

Heh, that's actually what I was expecting at first.
Figured there'd be a crashed helicopter behind me once I started the second campaign.
I don't see how that would ruin the "reward". Would've been a lot more fun in that ohshitzombieapocalypseeveryonewilldie way. Like that thing during the credits of the new Dawn of the Dead. Also would've made the "movies" seem a lot more like direct sequels.
Too bad they cut it out. Maybe they'll put them back in sometime.

Is there anything we can't blame consoles for?

There IS split screen, for those interested:

Code:
"ss_enable 1" turns on splitscreen
"ss_splitscreenmode 1" for horizontal split, 2 for vertical(widescreen only)

This is GOTY. Probably next year's, too.

I resent that remark.
I would have liked to have the cut scenes in there. With some explanation to why I am running through this and that after one campaign was completed.

Again tho', not having a story really doesn't hurt this game. Doesn't retract from the fun at all. It'd be nice to see those cut scenes tho'.

Plus what Bill says in the opening has me intrigued.
"They're changing"......hint towards more boss like creatures?

I think this is just referring to the "special" infected. As for the "lack" of story, I think that's a minor point. The campaigns are fairly unique settings, the characters and thier banter are GREAT, the director kicks butt in its attempt to create a "narrative" for each run through...
The game just needs a setup and then the action goes from there. It's primarily a multiplayer game, so story isn't really a needed point. However, there's STILL a lot of content in the game. The grafitti and such gives you some idea about what's going on. There's no "THIS IS A CUTSCENE TELLING YOU WHAT"S HAPPENING", but there's plenty of atompshere and content that tells you: Zombies overran the world, things are screwed. And that's about what every Zombie movie gives you anyway.

I played the demo on 360 and it's decent. One thing I did dislike was how shooting at a crowd of zombies wasn't as satisfying as it could have been. I'd like it better if they had more dying animations and could stumble over each other instead of running until they cover the screen. I will download it for PC and play some multiplayer before I make up my mind but it's probably as fun as who you play with.

Graphics are toned down on the 360, because the hardware just can't handle it. It runs beautifully on the PC, and shooting into a crowd of zombies yeilds exploding heads/limbs is extremely satisfying (Not to mention the ragdolls stay as long as you set them to).

WHAT THE RAGDOLLS STAY FOREVER?, sigh in i got the normal version.

so let me think i need the gold version too see hordes of bodies, and enjoy the masacre
