Legion-NCR Synthesis

First time out of the vault
Caesar talks a big game about how the Legion will change and absorb the best of the NCR when it takes them over. This isn't historically too impossible as Militaristic Sparta changed a lot from taking over Democratic Athens.

Caesar talks about it like it's an inevitability and he doesn't seem to mind at all if it happens- he almost seems to look forward to it. He praises NCR as being culturally superior to every petty tribe he's dealt with.

So what do you think would happen in the Legion did march from the Boneyard to Shady Sands to Arroyo and take over everything there was?

From a moral viewpoint the Legion would have absolutely nowhere to go but up from a synthesis and from a competence/non-corrupt point of view the NCR would have nowhere to go but up as well. It actually could be a pretty good marriage between the two.

I guess I'll start....

For one thing I think they'd relax their restrictions on non-humans serving in the military.

I also think- with the NCR being lenient to gays and most everybody in the Legion being a self-denying gay- that the Legion would probably come out of the closet and stop executing gays.

Also, if the PC in the Mojave was a female then there'd probably be a lot less sexism there too, especially given how much Caesar honors the PC.

I also think that restrictions on alcohol would be lifted.

In addition, Caesar would probably wipe out corruption in politics and business (bad senators, people like Heck Gunderson) but eliminate democracy and have his administration appoint people.

I also think The Legion/NCR would become "The Republic of Caesar." It'd likely allow more freedoms than the Legion already does (well, for those free citizens in it's boundaries) but it'd censor free speech against the government and maintain slavery. (the status of slaves might improve slightly to grant some minor rights) It probably wouldn't legalize drugs, though it may allow gambling and stimpacks. (there's too much money from gambling in New Vegas for Caesar to abandon it completely) It'd also probably establish various social classes, with membership into the Legion a permanent class and some form of draft/forced conscription.

RoC would probably be safer and have less corruption and a more efficient government than NCR, even though slavery would be legal along with the curtailing of free speech and free elections.

I'm referring to what'd happen after the Legion conquered the NCR. Caesar himself discusses a synthesis in uniting the two empires and comments on the NCR being close to the Legion's equal and worthy beyond any tribe he's ever faced.

You can't have a Democracy with a Dictator.

A rose by any name. Revolutionary France had it's own Republic that wasn't really Democratic.

In any case, I'm a Mr. House man. NCR is just too corrupt (Heck Gunderson, senators in his pocket) and too incompetent ("General Wait and See" who got his job from being buddies with the president, not to mention their head scientist and "the idiot with the glasses") to want to support. The Legion is pure evil but their synthesis with the NCR might result in something better than either one of them.

Still, it's a pretty big longshot. Caesar doesn't care about good or evil, only with imposing his ideals and vision on the Wasteland. As bad as he is Raul praises the Legion for improving the lands to the east and making them safe. Caesar does seem interested in "synthesis" with the NCR at least, and not in simply exterminating them entirely.

I imagine he'd also adopt the best of NCR's military tactics, making the Legion into an even greater military superpower.

Still....

the more I think about it, the less likely this is. If you kill House in the name of the Legion he'll lament that you've damned the world to slavery. Mr. House is an extreme genius who's pretty much never wrong about anything. Caesar has no idea what a synthesis with NCR would entail but simply views it as a natural outcome. It's possible, but remotely so. (what does he say if you kill him in the name of the NCR?)

At the very least Caesar would be interested in trying to find out why NCR's economy generates so much more money than his tribute system and would enact whatever reforms could help the Legion do that. (in the same way that vile Tibetan/Uighurs-oppressing Communist China operates)

When you kill him in the Name of hte NCR he says "YOU.....saaad.....MISGUIDED....whore....". House needs the NCR to survive, House is about capitalism, you can't live on capitalism if no one spends money in your place, you can even make a deal with them if your science is high enough.
The Legion seems to have a quite stable economy, their money is the more valuable of the game.

Who said a republic has to be a "democracy" ? Or that the French after the revolution really aimed at that ?

Of course a democracy can not work with a dictator. But a republic can.

The Brotherhood blew up the NCR's gold reserves which ruined their money's value. Now it's backed up in water reserves, though the hold is tenuous.

A gold or silver coin is always worth money no matter who makes it or what the design is. Maybe that's why Legion money is so valuable? Even if the Legion all dropped dead their money would still have some value. (though probably not nearly as much)
