There's a huge difference between third person and isometric. In third person the camera always moves with the character, in iso, the player moves the camera. So, no, even if you can pull the camera all the way back into the same position as it was in FO1 & 2, it's still not iso.
But there are these professionals claiming the opposite:

Howard does recognize that players played Oblivion in third-person view, and Fallout 3 has an improved third-person camera. In fact, not only is it perfectly playable from third-person, but you can zoom out the camera to make it almost isometric, in a nod to the previous two games.
Whom the masses are going to believe?

Divine Divinity had the camera locked on the character, emulating Diablo.

yes diablo.. a magnificently successful title that was entirely isometric just like it's sequel which made quite a few bucks too.

wait!! that can't be true!
because isometric games don't sell!

all sarcasm aside..

I agree with the statements made earlier in this thread that even the best console "RPG" games were rarely anywhere near as challenging and full of depth as the best of the PC world.

they had hours of playability, I'll give them that, but most of them were just railroading adventure games with stats, which some marketing guy decided to call an "RPG'..
