Liam Neeson's Role Gets Homeland Recognition

Although, I'll admit that at several hundred thousands euros seem a bit high - even if it is Liam Neeson appearing in the game ;). However, let's say a game like Fallout 3 has budget of say 15 mill. US dollars (approx. 30 Mill. Euros?) spending maybe 300,000 € (euros) is peanuts in the overall budget of Fallout 3.
One American Dollar is worth about 0.7 or so Euro, so 15 mill dollars would be approximately 11 million euro or thereabouts (meaning a bigger piece of the "budget cake" would go to Neeson, leaving less for..well.. everything else).

I suppose giving big bags of money to the big name voice actor would be okay.. if the game in question didn't rely on full voice acting for the entirety of it's dialogue... like Fallout 3...

Isn't next-gen great?

yeah, i corrected my post to 11 mill (originally 12) before i saw your post :D

Its very approximate values, i just looked at our currency exhange values for today for a rough calculation.

I get one dollar for 5.71, but have to pay 7.90 for an euro.

Paying actors more in general compared to doctors, technicians, real professionals, is outrageous. In my version of a perfect world, all actors and athletes would "suffer" from a $250,000 salary cap. Money earned from merchandise sales and the such could go to them, however, if they had enough wits to sell their products.

Did the topic discussing this on the Bethsoft forums mystically disappear? Thought that was weird since the link to the scan in the thread was removed. Guess a mod got angry.

I wonder how much money Ron got from doing his lines.

eh, no, but the Bethsoft forums have a strict policy of not allowing links to copyrighted material, scans included. I remember seeing a thread being culled (deleted) in which there was a scan of an article about Oblivion, I think.

I f the poster at Beth's forum just had mentioned that Liam Neeson
recognition from his hometown, then the thread might still be alive.
One other thing is that I can understand why Bethsoft doesn't want Liam Neeson's fee known to the public.

Yeah, but a mod removed the link to the scan first, before the entire thread was deleted.
Last time I checked the thread, there was only the discussion with no links to the article.

Dunno, something must've gone wrong, they don't usually delete threads. Just start a new one without the scans if you want to discuss the topic.

Hilarious that they'd remove links to a scan of a free newspaper, tho'

They pay actors vast amount of money not for their 'talent', but rather for their fame and press coverage that will accompany them.

Instead of 'investing' in plain advertisement, like magazine's etc, they hire a big name actor which will almost guarantee heaps of attention and press coverage.
Cheaper and more effective really. Seems to be working so far.

I'm not neccesarilly against hiring big names, it's pretty much inevitable if you want to compete at the top.
However they should not sacrifice in the amount of 'normal' voice actors, but that goes without saying.

The Fallout 3 budget should go to the 20 million and something figure, still I don't believe those numbers, voiceovers for games is something covered by union deals, and it never reaches such high figures.

A talented well known actor may provide a great voice to a character within any game, but they cannot create the personality of the game single-handedly.

What attracts me to Fallout and other RPG's like it is the detail of personality in the dialogue trees that gives the story that atmosphere. It is not exclusively the voice actors who played small important roles along the way. It is the writing that helps to absorb me in the game, with NPC's who have personality and the PC's I make that choose what they say rather than a voiceless avatar and a bunch of NPCs with the same mindless jabber. One great voice actor isn't going to make the game a complete experience in storytelling. Save the funds on more writers please.

Couldn't agree more. Also, I believe in no conspiracy behind this, the journalist responsible for that info probably did his job poorly or did it out of patriotic reasons.[/rumors!]
