Mad Max 4: Fury Road

Honestly, it's not like we've got much left to lose after Beyond Thunderdome anyway. I mean, the film has its place in my heart and in my library, but Aunty Entity was to the Road Warrior series what the Ewoks were to Star Wars, and the boogereater tribe was Jar Jar.

As long as they keep this thing within the bounds of the franchise and don't try to make it an over-the-top adrenaline extravaganza, I'm game to see what they do with it.

Waltz with Bashir?

A Scanner Darkly?

I meant 3D animated movie.

I don't count Pixar movies as 'serious' because they're mostly for kids or comedies. I'm not talking about quality; rather the subject matter.

Animated movies != Anime.
Indeed but Kurosawa is the director so it might have Japanese animation staff.

I hardly see how or why being animated (in any fashion) or being live action has anything to do with the tone of the movie...

I don't understand what you're confused about. I said that there hasn't been a good serious 3D animated movie. Serious, meaning adult oriented. If still confused, forget 'serious', how about with an adult rating?

I was confusing your posts with the people who were insinuating that there can't be a good serious animated film (or at least Mad Max 4 can't be one), my mistake.

I hope they can at least get Mel Gibson to lend his voice talent in the film. Despite not agreeing with some of his political views he is my favorite actor and the first two rows of my movie shelf house every movie he has made. :D

I trust the hell out of Miller. I mean, Happy Feet was fuckin' tops.

I mean, Thunderdome kind of sucked, but hell, it was also kind of awesome. So, whatever. We'll see.

Also, CG don't phaze me, son.

There's already a Mad Max anime...

I'm not so sure about that one... there are still a lot of people that are only going to hear "Are you a jew, sugartits?" whenever he opens his mouth, and that's probably not the best thing in the world for ticket sales.
He was drunk wasnt he ?

Alcohol, the cause and solution to all our problems.

I think the animated movie can be just as good like one with real ators. But I would say it cant replace it. Well not yet.

That's fair. I understand you. I think adult-oriented clarifies things. I can't think of any animated movies like that that were really good, but I wouldn't call myself an expert.

Did you happen to see WALL-E? Not a great movie, in my opinion, because it was too advanced for children and too childlike for adults, but after seeing it, I have no doubt that a really good, animated Mad Max movie is possible, if not probable. The post-apocalyptic scenes in WALL-E look superb.

My first choice would be a traditional live-actor movie like the first three, but animated isn't a deal-breaker.

Beoulf was a boatload of crap. I happened to see the new Punisher, tho, and it had a $22 000 000 budget, which puts it in the low-budget category. That german fighting chick did amazing stuff with that kinda money, and she had a shitload of stuff to show. Mad Max: The Road Warrior and the Dollars Trilogy were made with an extremely low ammount of money too, so there is no excuse to make Max CGI. I've yet to see a well animated 3D feature, which is not Pixar.

There's the first Appleseed. There's Vexille. Then there's the the classics like Akira, or more recent titles like Kurozuka.

Not so much within the Western industry, partly because the Westerners like to keep a "PG" tag on anything that's not live-action.

Yes, I saw Wall-e and those scenes you mentioned were awesome. If MM4 looked like that, I'd be very interested.

Since Mad Max 4 is the topic here, we're obviously talking about movies that are animated CGI in 3D.

BTW, Gibson probably won't be in the movie since Miller didn't wan't him a year ago. link

They are two entirely different approaches to the film medium and neither should replace the other.

I honestly haven't seen a lot of CGI Japanese films and all that I have seen were made by SquareSoft, a game developer. I really don't see any reason why the Japanese couldn't do a good adult oriented CGI film, I just don't think that it's as big of an interest over there (though I could be wrong). That said, I'm not sure that Mad Max 4 will be that movie, it all depends on the script, voice acting, and animation studio. I'd dubious about the first two and have no clue on the third.

Appleseed and Vexille are full 3D BTW.

It's just that, you know, PA titles in Japan that do not involve giant mecha are kind of rare in general, and even more rarely do they appear in full 3D.

As for the Squaresoft, FFVII CG movie was a great work in terms of graphic design, but a complete flop in terms of plot, and even voice-acting wasn't too great. Same goes for the older "Spirits Within".

Although, if Max Max 4 were something like the latter, it would not necessarily be a bad thing.

EDIT: Oh, speaking of western titles, there was also this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_9moZ0ZzhY

I knew that one of them was, I just didn't remember if it was the first one or the sequel (or I'm imagining the sequel).

Actually I'd love to hear that they hired Squaresoft to do the animating because they are damn good at it, they just suck at writing for movies (not that their recent FF games have been anything special).
