Carmack's Rage is going to be out earlier than this not-yet-in-progress movie-tie-in game.

For some reason we just dropped all coverage on titles like Rage or Borderlands.

Nobody seems to care, tho'

I care.....

Good luck getting that Boy and his Dog game off the ground. The auther of the original book (and the graphic novel sequel "Vic and Blood") is pretty much the king of jack asses. And I'm not just saying this based off of what has already been posted on the net a billion times before (Look up Harlan Ellison vs Penny Arcade on google), but I actually met the old crab once. I met him at a convention and even brought my first edition copy of a Boy and his Dog thinking he might sign it! I told him I was a big fan (Not knowing the guy was as stuck up as he is) and that I got into his novels after I saw the movie version of A Boy and his Dog. The old fucker called me "sheep who can only appreciate a book after viewing a garbage movie". I tried to tell him that this wasn't the case, and while I liked the movie very much, I thought his book ten times better (Before I got there I had contemplated asking him about a possible remake, needless to say I never asked.) but the old codger just ignored me and screamed "NEXT!" to the person behind me. So I was the better man and dropped my book on his table and told him I won't be needing it anymore. He looked somewhat pissed at this and I think he threw the book in the trash can, but I don't know, I simply walked away.

Plus the guy is a money lover. I remember reading something about him sueing some bok for supposed 'defacement' or some such nonesence. So, you're best bet is to make a game that could either be a parody of a Boy and his Dog, or something almost exactly like, but not quite the source material.

Gotta admit, though, I love his insults when he has time to sit and think about them. He's not very good with on-the-spot insulting though.

Back on topic, this may be good. There have been a few, VEYR FEW, movie based games that I thought were awesome. The Riddick game that came out a fe years ago is one. Plus, I liked God of War alot, so I have faith. It can't be any worse than that crappy NES Mad Max game, or that shitty Outlander (Sorry to whoever mentioned it earlier, I couldn't stand it honestly).

And slightly less off topic, I'd love it if you guys would follow Rage when more details start coming out. Sure, as of right now there's absolutly NOTHING new released, but I got a good feeling about this game. It seems like Carmack and Id realised how they fucked up Doom 3 and wish to improve on it and...gasp... make a decent FPS now instead of a playable tech demo. But I dunno. I liked the teaser though.

Ummmm didn't they already try this with Outlander?

Obtaining the license to Mad Max, made the game, lost the license, released the game with a different name, called it Outlander, still looked like Mad Max, the game sucked horribly.

I don't think they tried having the actual creator collaborate with a AAA game designer, so much as they just repurposed TechnoCop to be a Mad Max game.

There's like a 99% chance this game will be a GTA clone, and no matter how derivative that may sound it will be awesome. I just hope there's a snakechucking button.

Shit what a tosspot, especially when there are fans who took the trouble to come see him. But you know some people are just better off on their own with their money.

you know i remember some nods to abahd in fallout2 vault city. Like the sperm donations.

There's the dog too of course, I wouldn't like to venture a guess as to when the first post-apoc canine-chum appeared.

I wonder...

If good movies make bad games, and B movies make decent games (See the evil dead games) I wonder, what B-F movies have you seen that you think would make good games?

I honestly think Cyborg 2 would make a good game, as long as you get rid of the freaky robotic love interest, you know, the whole escape from the military facility with your stolen parts (stolen because well, you haven't served out your contract yet and they plan to scrap you.)

Anyhee, just a moment of madness, I'm sure it'll pass, eventually...

Post apoc fever in the near future?

We're in the middle of it. Check it (including indies);
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (Q2 2007) (PC)
Hellgate: London (Q4 2007) (PC)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky (2008) (PC)
Fallout 3 (Fall 2008) (PC, XBox 360, PS3)
Rage (when it's done) (PC, XBox 360, PS3, Mac)
Borderlands (Q4 2008) (PC, XBox 360, PS3)
Edge of Twilight (TBA) (PC, Xbox)
Wasteland 2 (TBA) (TBA)
New Dawn (TBA) (PC)
Afterfall (TBA) (PC)
Age of Decadence (TBA) (PC)

Age of Decadence's ETA is late 2008. Check your facts buddy :P

:EDIT:
Also, it's not "PC" per se, it's Windows/Linux/Mac OS (the last too aren't for sure, but very likely).

Age of Decadence's ETA is "Thursday". You check your facts.

Please don't be a smart-ass. It's not been confirmed for Linux or Mac OS, it doesn't have an announced release date, so all I'm saying is correct.

Don't make me beat you up.

Meep, Violent BN, c'mon people, puppies and sugar snacks, let's not get angry, keep thinking about those puppies and sugar snacks!

Ah, I forgot about Stalker and Hellgate (and of course the others)... I wonder if after Bioshock and Fallout 3 that the '50's feel' takes off about as much as the post apoc feel is now. Eh, time will tell.

Rage's teaser didn't exactly interest me, and I'm a long time fan of ID's stuff (I liked Doom and Quake back in the day, what can I say?) but I'd at least like to see more info to see where this is going.

YES!! some good news at last!

last of the v8's

i knew they were going to try mad max 4 again but not the game.
there was a mad max game for SNES, but it was kind of pants;
http://www.dotnes.com/mad-max.html

this is great stuff, and for this i won't even care if it's fpp action.

and when they are done with that, how about an "a boy and his dog" game?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072730/

amirite?

thanks for pointing out the movie " a boy and his dog " , i just watched it and really enjoyed it.

I've been thinking about this recently alot, and the more I think about it, the mre I like it. I mean , come on, any game where you play as a straping buck wearing nothing but leather can beat the holy crap out of a bunch of faggots with pink hair and an unhealthy fetish for tight leather using a sawed off boomstick and mowing them over with a souped-up muscle car in the middle of the austrailian outback after a global war (Though given that I've actually SEEN the australian outback and it ALREADY looks like a radioactive cease pool makes me wonder if the entire plot is actually just a bunch of LARPers that take it a tad to far...) sounds like a sure fire win to me.

Bottom Line: I'll get it even if it sucks because I fucking LOVE Mad Max. And hot leather.
