Is that a Katana on the last pic? Coolest of cool!
It's from that mod that replaces Fallout weapons with weapons from WWII/50s.

As for the camo armors...
Are they old camouflage patterns or modern?

well considering fallout is based on a retro view of the future yes its old style of camo

i got working on the gatling gun animation, i have two versions... ones similar to the original power armor gatling gun firing animation but it came out looking sorta crappy and the other one has less of a light effect... tell me what you think (remember im kinda new at this lol):
Gatlingproto2-0.gif
Gatlingproto-0.gif

i could proly improve them if i wanted to

The desert model of combat armor looks nice, but if you'd like to hear my opinion, it's too "aggressive", destroys my eyes, in equipment looks really cool but in game I think' there's too "much" colors on it. I'd suggest to make just sand-colored with a bit of brown or gray.

About the miniguns, well seems to me that you don't know how minigun really works, Cause I see that all the barrels are firing in your animations. Truth is that in miniguns the barrels whirl (is that the word? I ain't sure...), but only one of them when has correct place shoots a bullet. There's many of them because single barrel would simply melt down with that fast rate of fire.

But you do really good work pal, keep it up!

i revamped it a lil and added a bit of a recoil from the firing of the gatling gun
gatlingrevampwrecoilslower-0.gif

edit:
heres a lil slower version

i also have a prototype of the desert combat armor guy w/ a rifle/ big gun:

I like the recoil. You work fast.

After seeing the screen shots, I have to say that the regular camo looks better in-game. Just by itself, I prefer the desert camo ('cause I think it looks cool), but it doesn't go well with the rest of the colors/textures on-screen.

I cast my vote for the regular camo!

I'm going to have to stop you for one second ...

Whilst I think what you're doing is really impressive I've got to say it looks wrong.
I take it you're just editing in the guns and movements onto one model that you've skinned, right?
You can't do that without it looking bad.

If you notice how the original combat armour sprites work there is a lot more movement and so, whilst interesting in their own way, your animations just don't look right.

I suggest you change your method of doing this. It'll take more time but it will look sooo much better. You'll have to open the FRMs for each different Combat armour and change the colouring on each one of those. It'll be a lot more work but it would work much better I'm afraid.

Plus what is that strange thing that happened to his shoulder?

Sorry bud, but hopefully a little bit of constructive criticism will help you make this amazing and not just reasonably good ...

gah well i kinda made the animations for only the desert camo... maybe you'll change your mind lol
meanwhile i made this inventory shot of your character if he had on the desert camo what it would look like:

well itd be nice if i had some help on this...
i havent exactly done this before... so im kinda going by a hit or miss process...

and its kinda hard to tell bc everythings camo but the thing on his shoulder is the original "pack" on his back from the original combat armor...

I like this one, but I wonder how you will create realistic animations for firing, dodging, moving, changing weapon (for each of 6 directions).

care to help? lol i can send you what i have....

i made the inventory shots of the green camo but i cant decide which one is better:

and i also made an inventory screenshot as well

I, too, prefer the one on the right.

And, dude, just keep going with this. It's cool. I am not in a position to help you do the work. I wish I were.

As to your models not looking "right"... I disagree. I think they look great. It will be a lot of work for you to do all the animations and poses in all the orientations, but, if you pull it off (even if it takes some time), I'll bet you a whole pile of fake money that people will use it.

Good work

*Edit*

Okay, now that I've seen Hotel's example below, I see what he what was talking about. If you two can figure this out together, that's even more awesome! And, Hotel, it was really great of you to come back with help and an example of your own. All I can do is cheer from the sidelines.

Ok, I've had a go myself and can give you some tips ...

Whilst its in no way easier than what you're doing, it has the movement right.

If you could tell me how you mapped that texture onto the sprites I suspect we could help each other think.

My method:
I'll assume you have photoshop and imageready. Open up the FRM in PS and have that nice palette you've got handy. Where the paint brush is right click on that and use the Colour Replacement tool
. This lets you draw onto the image without loosing the shades of the pixels in the background. You'll have to lighten it quite a bit since it has a tendency to turn darker. Use the CRT and different shades to create a consistent cammo look. Be careful before using really light tones because you have to make them in exactly the same space.

All I've done is darken the armour and colour it mostly brown instead of green.

You'll have to ask the photoshop gurus if there is a better way of doing this but I think that you really need to work on the originals instead of just your copy. You need the movements - notice the subtle sway in my animation? That comes from the original FRM.

(I know you're going to say this version is too dark but meh - its a WIP)

There's way to create new animations for heavy guns (not flamer), I think. You must create 3d model of the gun and render it from different positions (based on the rifle animations). Next copy and paste new gun into rifle animations. But I don't know if there's possibility to add new animations to the engine + there will be few other problems...

well in the meantime i kinda made an animation for that gun he's holding:
bozar-0.gif

do you think the leg work is a lil awkward?

I'm afraid I think it'll look awkward until you use the original animations. The body needs to move back as well, which means that the shadow's will move. Use the rifle animation for this one.

Sorry, but I don't like the animations. It is great, that you are trying to make a new critter and so on, but with the animations I have to agree with Hotel California - they don't look like they should. Just compare them with the original animations.

Dude, you have to edit the several FRM that exist on the combat armor. Not just edit the main one with movement made by you :|
