Making a cooler version of combat armor

Whilst its in no way easier than what you're doing, it has the movement right.

If you could tell me how you mapped that texture onto the sprites I suspect we could help each other think.

My method:
I'll assume you have photoshop and imageready. Open up the FRM in PS and have that nice palette you've got handy. Where the paint brush is right click on that and use the Colour Replacement tool
. This lets you draw onto the image without loosing the shades of the pixels in the background. You'll have to lighten it quite a bit since it has a tendency to turn darker. Use the CRT and different shades to create a consistent cammo look. Be careful before using really light tones because you have to make them in exactly the same space.

All I've done is darken the armour and colour it mostly brown instead of green.

You'll have to ask the photoshop gurus if there is a better way of doing this but I think that you really need to work on the originals instead of just your copy. You need the movements - notice the subtle sway in my animation? That comes from the original FRM.

(I know you're going to say this version is too dark but meh - its a WIP)

to map the armor onto the inventory i used a camo picture i found on the net and used the cloning tool very carefully and it worked out great...

for the individual characters i used the colors from the same camo pic and being that camo itself is random, put the diff colors on there in random pattern to some degree...
send me your email and ill send you what ive got...

Can I ask how long it took to make each image?
If it was more than perhaps 5 minutes to put the cammo on I think you'll be wasting your time doing so many frames. And doing each frame is the only way you'll get the movement to look right I'm afraid...

If you're going to do desert camo, don't use the Desert Storm stuff, the spots look wierd, stick with the 3 color.

I think black and plain tan would look good as well, lets see those.

i sent you the email w/ most of the stuff in it... ill work on the gatling thing you started either later tonight or tmw
and it was def less than 5 mins

i need like the frames for the combat armor guy... i only have certain ones.... if anyone would be so generous as to send them to me thatd be great...

edit: i just put these together... i tried your color replacement thing but it doesnt turn out quite the same as my original here are the 1st 2 frames of that animation you posted w/ the camo added in:

Friendly council, SledNeck:

Don't push yourself, just keep focused on the Brotherhood Combat Armor* - and follow Fallout Ranger's advice about black and plain tan pattern for the desert camo. I'm sure you'll accomplish something big here, specially if you team up with Hotal California; I can fell it.

Plus, touching power armor is heresy. Leave it.

*I'm supposing you'll apply changes to the Brotherhood Combat Armor (post-war) and leave the Combat Armor (pre-war) as it is originally. I'd do that.

OK, I've sent you the Combat armour FRMs. You'll have to convert them to gif yourself. The Gattling gun sprites are HMCMBL - the suffix for shooting is K.

Scroll through those and do some easy ones to practice. Personally I'd recommend that you try the tan armour. Desert cammo would stand out better than the green stuff!

dude this sounds like an awesome idea
i gotta say i like both versions of the camo
a really cool place u could put the desert camo guys is replace the combat armor gaurds w/ bozars for that trader infront of ncr
i think anyways
its ur mod lol

It's a great idea, but seriously, you need to edit each frame individually. Cutting and pasting body parts will always result in a jerkiness that's noticeably less realistic than the original images. You may think the firing animations look okay, but the running frames will look like they were made in MS Paint if you keep using this method. It will be faster (and less frustrating) to simply apply the camo to each frame than fiddling with a copy-and-pasted image, trying to get the alignment and motion 'right'.

well just so you know... i have arleady done what you said (read posts above) and leg shakingness still came out.... you know i only started doing this like 2 weeks ago... give me a break... it would be nice for someone else besides Hotel California to help out, i can send you the camo i used and the .frms that i have...hopefully this thing will go into full swing come after the holidays

Sorry, I didn't mean to come across too harshly; it wasn't clear to me that you're working with each frame now. I guess I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and prefer seeing projects get done, and done well. I don't have any experience with graphics work, so I'm afraid I can't help with this one.

Thanks for the time you're putting into this; I think it will look great when it's done.

im working on this right now when i can but im kinda busy with other stuff at the same time... if anyone wants to help make this mod possible just send me a private message or voice it on the forum

One question: Shouldn't this armor get a boost to AC? (Considering it's camo and all... :P)
Problem is it would be impossible, right?
As far as I know, you cannot lower the AC for when you enter buildings and such...
