Out of curiousity- do you play a MMORPG? If so which ones?

I am trying to get an idea what kind of community interest exists for this.

Your cooperation is appreciated.

Technically, this should probably go into games, but I want to get a good gauge of the community.

I did at one point play MMORPGs.
I started with Dark Age of Camelot. I don't remember much about it but do remember having fun with it. Considering by the time I started playing it WoW had just came out.

Roughly three or so years later. I got WoW as a gift from someone and played it for about a year and a half. Just canceled my subscription about a month and a half ago. I don't plan on playing any again.

Unless something comes along that wows me but I highly doubt that.

Lineage 2 was my favourite for a long time, but I lost all interest in MMOs since I realized they are all either ripping of from Lineage 2 or WoW.

And because I can't afford paying the monthly fee.

Ewwww.
i havent played MMOs in a long time.
I just cant take the mindless and pointless grind for exp/gear/whatever. I just cant see how WoW could be addictive.
It is just so tedious.
So no.

I played The Matrix Online when it first came out. A pretty shoddy game but I played it with a group of close friends and we had fun following the story together.

Then it was bought by Sony, I don't think the story advanced after that point.

I also played WoW for 3 months before realising that the game was boring as hell. Ugh, fuck grinding.

Ragnarok Online, COH, and WOW freeservers, pretty much bored of MMOs at this point, unless something unique comes by...

Anyone got odds for that? :P :D

Tried GuildWar, didn't like it. Too much focus on combat. Though I like the idea of hiring henchman as team mate when you can't find anyone to team with.

Currently taking a break from Anarchy Online, which, is the only MMO I play. Don't like the other due to the reason 'I hate elves and dragon fantasy setting' and the game has powered armor and railgun and demons and aliens :D . Was going to try Tabula Rasa until it was shut down.

Agreed. That's why I never even tried playing one. Most of my friends were involved at some point and I really don't like what I hear. Even though I'm sure it can be fun, just the idea of wasting hours makes me sick. I'm honestly much more of a story-line game type of person, I need more content.

Online I've mostly played worms armageddon and GTA4 more recently. More fun in less amount of time.

WoW is pretty much just storyline. Every area has quests, every instance has quests. The entire game till is designed around doing quests, each carrying a little bit of game lore.

It's only the redundancy of said quests that creates a problem. The end level raiding is especially horribly repetitive.

I have a level 70 paladin on a priv... you get the picture.

Anyways, mmorpgs can be entertaining...in the right environment.

I played City of heroes for a while, and that did seem like fun, same with Eve online. It's strange, non fantasy based Mmorpgs usually have more depth and scope than their medieval counterparts(for the most part)

The difference being that the mayority of the quests are something along the lines of: Go there. Kill x number of z mob. Leave get quest reward go somewhere else and rinse and repeat. In the meantime the quest mobs will respawn and you have had no effect whatsoever on the world around you. Yeah they have gotten better in the last expansion, but there are still many quests that are like that. When compared with the quests in fallout the quests in WoW falls flat on their face.

That is not what makes wow funny though. The fun in wow is playing the game with others. If gear is all you play the game for, then it is not worth it. I'm in a good guild however so I find it fun to play wow with them. Yeah it is really just a gloryfied chatroom, but it is a fun one.

If you want to break thing down that far mechanically that's pretty much the definition of video gaming. That and FedEx quests. Replace kill with build stuff or hit notes as they go past the line.

All those kill quest have a story. Sometimes it sucks, sometimes it doesn't. Personally I don't see the quests as for example just kill giant Viking dudes, but you know defend the silly Walrus people village by helping them take out vikings.

Played UO and FOnline and tested some games here and there but mostly I got bored after a week or less. The only MMOs I played very often are UO and FOnline. I really like both of them, but in general most MMOs can bore me to death because of stupid players, stupid quests, stupid tasks, etc. etc. Also I _hate_ grinding stuff. Really. This sucks.

The quests in wow are pointless.
Why ?
Mostly because NOTHING will really change. You can kill a bad ass boss, even the kings/leaders, but it doesnt change anything. The quests are simply there to keep you thinking that there is actual content, when there is none really.
Now why would i pay money every single month to play a pointless game ? WoW is just mindless leveling and gearing, with some "social" aspects.

If i liked being able to do amazing feats of power with no consequences...i would have liked playing oblivion and fallout 3.

Just because something respawns in 5 minutes doesn't mean there is no content and your game experience is magically erased. For the actions and consequences that aren't represented in the game world you simply just have to imagine them.

Why? WoW is mutliplayer game. Respawning means that everyone can access that content and two people can interact while accessing that content.

Dark Age of Camelot is the only MMO I really got into, especially the PVP/RVR part. RR11 biaaatch

I also tried EQ, EVE, WOW, Conan and Warhammer, but didnt play any of them for more than a week or 2.
