Where'd That 6th Toe Come From?
Anyone tried it yet?

http://www.minecraft.net/survivaltest/

It's a nice combination of Sandbox gaming, and a lego set. The whole word is based on blocks, and the graphics are blocky, but it keeps a style.

The version I linked here is the free Alpha(yes, that early) version. It's cut down from a lot of features. You can buy it for a cheap price for a try on the indev version, which is updated daily, with new fixes and features.

Suming up, you can build and destroy the terrain, you can mine, you can craft, you can decorate the place at your style. Not great RPG potential there, but it's really fun for its simplicity. It's better to build your own safehouse for sleeping at night, or otherwise baddies might kill you from afar with arrows.

Here's a screenshot from one of the guys in another community. He built a tower for him

Here's a little vid:

The whole game is a one-man operation. You can bet it'll have support since you must pay for the game for the indev version. Or goof around with the free version, but it's really cut out from the good things in the game :|

I've heard of it from 7chan (they got their own server, I think), but never played it. Might try it one day.

My day job is mining... I don't want to do it when I get home
:D

It seems it has some water physics around. I was able to dig the terrain to make a river of water around my fortress. I suppose having an active community while the game is in development is a good decision, the developer gets a lot of ideas.

This actually looks awesome. I can see myself spending hours on end at this with a friend or two, building up a little area and digging out tunnel systems.

I wonder what the final product will be like. Will be keeping an eye on this!

Looks like a really interesting game.
Also getting a Dungeon Keeper vibe from it though that might be the first person pickaxe view and blocky visuals. :P

Didn't get it at first, then was hooked for quite a bit. Multiplayer especially is fun, though limited by gaps in available stuff (no minecarts for instance) and lack of monsters. Singleplayer was addictive for a day or two and then I was done.

Still, fun little addictive indie.

Yeah, addictive as hell, but singleplayer gets boring. I got this sort of "Who am I building all this for?" feeling of loserdom after a few days.

A fully-functional multiplayer would be really awesome. Even in its alpha stage it's dangerously addictive, and that's without damage (hence zero fear that you'll get your ass eaten by zombies).

Wow look, I didn't remember I created this thread so damn long ago. (And maybe edit it a bit so it resembles more what it is now, amirite?)

Anyway, NMA could have a multiplayer server once it gets more stable. :) Damn, the game has advanced so much since the video in the first thread, brings back memories.

Minecraft is a good game, but the Alpha is still really glitchy and buggy so I crash most of the time.

Huh? I swear I could've been playing like for 4-5 hours straight once without a single crash. There's some glitches here and there, but never heard of common crashes. :|

Could be the servers I played in that were unstable, but I've tried the downloadable .exe version and it has the same problem too, but I have no problem playing the free version online.

That must be your system, because the game's never crashed for me either.

Never experienced a crash in single player but in multiplayer the client can crash when either you try to connect to a badly configured server or you loose your connection to a badly configured server. I think it has to do with handling of timeouts or something.

Alright, tried singleplayer which works and multiplayer works good after tweaking cookies and my browser except I don't have much servers listed to play in.

There were some REALLY bad crash bugs in single player for a little while, but unless you're on an outdated client that shouldn't happen now.

If you're crashing a lot on a heavily developed server, try dropping your view distance from Far to Normal.

I actually found a sever a while back while I was just server hopping, it was a 1/1 scale map of the earth.
