Minutemen Origins

Lone Cat

It Wandered In From the Wastes
So when (the year) did the peacekeeping organizations called The Commonwealth Minutemen (Which took the theme of The Enligtenment Era Europe/ American Revolution, look at their outfits and the fondness of cocked hat and dusty jacket (Leaders wear Tricorne and the Late Enlightenment Era Blue coat on top of a combat armor) ) came to exists? to the point of exact year. And their original organizations, were they once a descendants of pre-war National Guard (In which IRL ... itself a successor to the Colonial Era minutemen reorganized into proper military organizations)?

Bethesda don't care about any of that nonsense. They literally only created the group and dropped them in the middle of the Commonwealth with no thought on how impractical they are, how they fit into the greater politics of the region or any of the stuff Obsidian was praised for in New Vegas.

I really don't understand what they were thinking. They (kind of) borrowed the concept for the main plot from New Vegas with having multiple joinable factions but then went in a completaly different direction. It's like halfway they figured they were too proud to copy Obsidian and reverted back to their modus operandi while keeping what they had up to that point.

Just compare the first act of New Vegas (getting to Benny) to Fallout 4. It does the same thing beat by beat until it doesn't anymore.

And what it does copy, it executes poorly.

Emil Pagliarulo is a hack. Also, the fact that they admit that their programmers double as quest writers is the most stupidly hilarious thing ever. I can say in confidence that wasn't the case in Fallout 3. That game at least had some thought put into its content.

Before Fallout 4 project begin. Bethesda already mentioned the place called The Commonwealth. has the following factions
1. Brotherhood of Steel.... led by The Lyons with Arthur Maxson transferred from the westcoast.
2. The Insititute
3. The Railroad
In Fallout 3. there are quests that reveals the existence of the Synth (then called with rather generic name... Androids).. there are two. one has a Railroad escort and ended up in Rivet City (later the city was dismantled to make Prydwen). the other (later expanded as Courser class Synth) accompanying Dr. Zimmer (who didn't return to The Commonwealth in time. didn't he has a working vehicle? does it take over TEN years to walk all the way from DC to CIT? or is the canon ending said that The Lone Wanderer killed him and his Courser unit?)
but the old patriot faction known as The Minutemen didn't come to exists as yet.... only shown up in Fallout 4 as themed (and Eastcoast BoS got Aurthruian knight theme as well, and a change in poicy too.)
and no real background on this faction compared to the Legion in Fallout New Vegas where the roman inspiration is well explained.

Where did you get all of this wrong information?

Skip to 18:35 for the bit about it. Also, I misremembered. It isn't just the programmers that write quests. It's much, much worse.

So bad. They really think highly of their fanbase. I love how this highly praised writer in the industry says nothing of value aside from letting us know he is unoriginal, they have no design documents, they wing it with everyone including artists pitching in quest ideas...

Programmer: Hey, Mister Howard, I came up with this muti stage quest with stat checks with 2 endings, like in New Vegas.

Howard: Don't you fucking dare mention that name....

P: Sorry... I mean, I came up with this structure, maybe we could use it for a quest in the main story.

H: Boy, our fucking quests are a straight line, this quest is too complex.

P: but it's barely the complexity of the first Quest in Nu....

H: *death glare*

P: but I spent a lot of time, this engine is not very friendly for questing.

H: Alright, just stick it somewhere where there aren't any quests.

P (whispers): So 70% of the map?

H: What was that?

P: Nothing... But, can I get a writer to punch up the quest for me? I just do the quest trees, not much of a writer myself.

H: Alright I guess... what ideas do you have for it?

P: I don't know [Think of something stupid so they don't make you write it] Maybe some robots want to fix a flying boat and fly away?

H: I love it, just add some scavengers offering you money for the robits and then, as a twist have them turn on you at the end.

P: Isn't that the exact same structure of thst stup---pendous Kind in the fridge quest?

H: Yeah, got a problem with that? You got a week to turn it in, boy.

P: No problem Mr Howard I am typing!

H: I can smell the 10/10s!

To be fair Bethesda has always followed this philosophy even in their days of daggerfall and a lot of companies do too. It's a team effort so actually they let everyone try to contribute their ideas.

And the Bethesda today is synonimous with games full of bugs and mediocre at best writing.
