Mod Support for Fallout 3 Won't be Available at Launch

Phancypants, as I said before, considering that the game's engine was virtually unchanged, adjusting the existing TES editor to support Fallout 3 shouldn't be a problem at all. They're either lazy, indifferent, or wary of volunteer competition affecting their DLC sales. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if it's all of the above.

My thoughts exactly. Given the amount of work done out there with the TES editor I don't doubt that F3 fixes are allready being planned on the fan side. However I don't know about the various interperatations I've heard so far about Beth's decision here. It could just be lazieness and they might put one out a little after the initial release. But if they abandon it as a feature alltogeather. Well it makes no sense.
On the one hand there's the whole "buy our DLC" argument. But at the same time the TES construction set was one of the things that made the damned PC version viable. Without all the mods and the patches, it wouldn't have been anywhere near as popular. Look at Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Would they be willing to take the hit from the PC market to hedge their bets with the DLC? Answerwise, there's an "idiotic yes", and an "intelligent no" response to that question.

This does really dissapoint me though. I was still looking forward to F3 on the assumption that there'd be a construction set that'd let us mod the everliving hell out of it. Maybe fix the damned game with some mods. I really can't see the appeal of even an Elder Scrolls game without the modding support, much less an Oblivion clone Fallout 3.

*sigh*

I doubt they don't want to release the editor because of downloadable content. They don't sell mods for the PC version and there's no DLC for the ps3 version (Microsoft paid them off just like Oblivion). The only "market" for DLC is on the 360.

A lot of developers were loathe to give out developers kits after the Hot Coffee incident because there's always a chance someone modifies the game and it receives national attention which also happened, on a smaller scale, with Oblivion.

Maybe it is laziness or perhaps they just don't want to. Who knows, but I can't believe they're holding back for monetary reasons when the only people who spend money on mods are Xbox users.

EDIT: nevermind. Apparently they do charge for Oblivion mods which is ridiculous. I've only watched people play the game so I was going off that.

First off, name one? Secondly, the Hot Coffee Mod wasn't enabled through a CS or similar first-party means, it was enabled via hacking the game via third-party software. Thirdly, Oblvion was rerated because the game had unused breast textures in the game and because the GTA contraversy was still fresh.

The whole incident was rediculous and it was Beth's ineptitude that caused Oblivion to ever be rerated with the new rules created by the GTA contraversy being created early enough before release that the textures could have been removed.

But the breast texture only came about through modding as well.

I dunno, I'm just speculating like everyone else in the topic.

no the breast texture was in the game it just wasn't shown, that's why it was rerated. you can't be rerated just because someone added a texture or model to your game that wasn't there, you get rerated only if you lied about what was in the game in the first place.

one possibility is that BS will delay releasing the CS for a month or so to forestall any controversy until after 90% of the sales are already done

There are a few nasty thoughts that spring to my mind. I hope none of them are true...

Unlike TES, Fallout does have the rabid fan boys who will try to mod the game to kingdom come untill most of the game (as much as their / our ability permits) is somewhat in cannon with first 2.

Beth has a nasty habit of trying to gouge its players with useless or omitted things as small updates/downloadable content. (Horse armor for Oblivion etc)

In the first Oblivion, the game was just a toolbox with a crappy "last minute" story painted on top. The fan mods / quests /dungeons were much more enjoyable.

Bethesta's real Oblivion game was the Shivering Isles expansion.
Yes that story and overall gameplay was a very good rpg game but 50 greens for toolbox and then more greens for the game :(...
