Modern space flight/combat sim

Brainstorming: maybe make a Babylon 5-themed sim where you get to fly one of those fighters. I always liked those.

Ever hear of the Babylon 5 game?

I heard it was at least half way before it got canceled.

Ever hear of the fan-made game I Found Her (title is from something the protagonist says in the game, I think)? You fly a starfury, and the physics feel quite realistic

Edit: Oh, I even got killed/captured by the Shadows once, when I tried to visit Z'ha'dum.

Okay, now before my head explodes with excitement at this... how is the game? Is it actually fun? Is there much to do? I had no idea there was a Babylon 5 game period, let alone one like this. o_o

So far it's a prequel campaign with maybe 5 or so missions (plus tutorial missions). The parts where you have to travel long distances through hyperspace gets sort of monotonous, but the combat is okay (in my opinion, anyway). I thought it was a rather challenging, but then I am not very good at space sims.
My guess is that at this point, multiplayer would be the most fun, but I haven't had anyone to try it with yet. Still, being able to do most of the stuff one has seen in the show (turning to fire at someone chasing you without having to change the direction in which you are moving, for example) is nice.

Edit: I also just found a standalone game using the Freespace 2 engine, called The Babylon Project. I'm downloading it now, should play the original Freespace games first, though.

looks like i'm out of excuses. i'll play it next weekend. :)

any particular mods i should get?

Just forgot about this, last year I picked up a copy of a rather old space shooter called Halcyon Sun.

It was original a game offered by a free download site but after they went bust the game came out on the market.

Most likely its not you thing SuaSide, but if you are looking for anything else space fighter simmy you can do worse.

I ignored the part about modern and relived my days playing INCA II!!!

In all seriousness... I was looking for a modern space sim last week. Came across X3, remembered X2 being decent but not nearly as good as freelancer.

I've not played but as I understand it, if you want an amazing space sim you've got to go with EVE. I just have trouble signing into MMO's that have been out and about for ages. I feel like I'm so far at the bottom of the food chain that I could never hope to achieve any level of dignity.

That's very interesting news. Thanks for posting it.

Whether it's a full-on remake ala The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition or an addition to the company's growing Steam lineup…well, who cares?

I do. I own the originals, and they're easily available for people who don't, so why anyone would be excited about the games being available on Steam is beyond me. Let's hope they're doing some sort of remake.
