Woman Offers Sex for 'Warcraft' Gold

By: Ruben Diaz

For: Game Invasion

Reports are circling around the Internet at a rapid pace about a woman who had posted a personal ad on Craigslist.org offering sexual favors in exchange for 'World of Warcraft' gold.

Needing 5000 gold to purchase an 'Epic Flying Mount,' one of the fastest mounts in the game, she offered anyone, male or female, playing on her server the opportunity to perform a variety of sexual acts in exchange for the in-game currency. Chief among her deviant interests was finding a partner into role-playing, going so far as to inform potential suitors that she has a costume ready for the occasion.

I lost my comments somewhere between the lines.

I dunno, she got her mount AND she got laid. Sounds like she's the winner in this one.

Price checking 5000 WoW gold, it's about $650 usd

Prostitutes charge $200/hr, so I guess depending on how long she was doing it, she actually made a legal transaction, but yeah.. that's pretty sad.

That's why I don't play MMORPGs :) .

Because they suck, or because you're afraid that you'll be reduced down to a sex slave, mangling every unclean hobo with a dinky stick for some fake currency? :D

Damn, I was used to people selling themselves for in-game sex (the first human town, Goldshire, became known as Sexshire or Cybershire) but know they're selling their bodies in real life? Ugh.

I used to play WoW before Burning Crusade came out.. good thing I quit when I did.. it's an evil cesspool.

The first. The only thing that would be enjoyable for me in such games would be being in a pack of PKs and hunting other players.
Of course it would require wasting a lot of time of doing stupid things to improve my characters, which kills the idea.

There should be no need for real life-prostitution, imo.
Middle-ages, and their environments, is partly known for having legal prostitution.

And I don't see any night-elfs making any money, even less dwarfs or gnomes.

Th4t 1s s0 *not* r3al1s7ic!!11

Then again, none of that shit is, and I'm glad I quit playing about a year ago.

Actually, the middle-ages were more known for its 'devout' religion and hence a distaste of prostitution.
But that too is wrong, since the legalisation and prohibition of prostitution changed constantly throughout history, usually being legalised when the prevailing thoughts suggested that it was at worst a necessary evil and at best just another business, and being prohibited when 'morals' suggested that it was wrong.

I'm of the opinion that legalised prostitution is very much possible, as long as there are guidelines and strict policing of both legal and illegal prostitution to prevent abuse, slave-trading and circumvention/abuse of the system. Prohibiting prostitution practically never works, at least with legal prostitution you can provide safe working environments and standards.

Who's to say that a woman can't sell her body if she so wishes?

Your economy is shit.
Well, that's 200 dollars for an hour, that seems about right, really. Here, in Belgium, you can mount the most gorgeous prostitutes for no more than 50 euros (but that's like 15 or 20 minutes). That means she'll give you a blowjob and afterwards you can fuck her in the missionary position.
For 100 euros you can have her for about half an hour to 45 minutes, and you can choose whatever position you like, be it doggy-style or cow girl or what have you. Usually you can also kiss her if you pay her 100 euros, and if you don't mind getting a VD, they'll even let you lick their fanny or eat their arse out.
The "few" times I visited a whore, I payed 100 euros, because you get to spend a reasonable amount of time with them and they'll let you have some quality time with their feet if you dig that kind of stuff.
Also: hookers in Belgium are often very, very pretty girls. And hygienic. I'm pretty sure you have less chance of contractng a VD from a professional Belgian whore than from some sad woman you just met at the pub and went home with.

I've asked hookers about whether they like doing their job, and most do. You usually hear that it's an easy way to earn a good living. One of them once told me that it's a mixed blessing: you have to deal with the occassional drunk and brute, but other days they have really nice and rich customers who spend a month's income in just one night. It's easy to say this as a man, I guess, but if I were a woman, I would seriously consider a job like that: sitting behind a window, being pretty, getting to wear all that hot lingerie and them plateau shoes, polishing your nails. What a life.

If I remember correctly (which I probably don't), prostitution in the manner of submission to the prince and such, in exchange for wealth, was pretty normal during the time, as well as 'normal' prostitution. This might, however, changed from time to time (since the middle-ages lasted for more than a few years), but it's still something I relate to it.

As for the present prostitution, I agree; as long as there is no (bad) criminal activities involved, there is nothing to loose for both parts (except for money); the buyer gets laid, and the prostitute gets money. Everyone is happy.
The reason for it being a dangerous business is the fact that it's illegal. Making it more of a work with restrictions, rather than just a way to make money, would be revolutionary to the oldest (and least honorable) occupations in the history of mankind.

Ha! There are people who've made female night elf characters specifically to dance around naked all day for gold.
And they actually get paid! WoW players are a sorry bunch.

The middle-ages are too diverse and ill-defined to make such generalising statements.

Er....that's the point to make it legal. Which, in fact, it is over here.

Oh yeah, you live in that country that is pretty radical compared to the others -Holland. I really like their (and yours?) view on both prostitution and drugs, since both supports my opinions (well, obviously) on the subject. Hurray for you, you're one step ahead of most european countries.

Yes, it is. I wish I could exemplify with various things to prove my point if I were more well-educated in the subject.
