What? What's wrong with Chicago? Number one city for our kind outside of the former motherland you know. You can do odd jobs for my dad, he's relatively known in some local circles. He helps out lots of fresh-off-the-boat-ers. Don't even worry about trivial things like legal status or work authorization. As for the type of work, well.... how much did you like playing GTA4?

Boston is like Sanfran only with legalized gay marriage, great sports teams and centuries of history. On the other hand the weather is god awful, my girlfriend is from SanFran and that is what she misses all the time.

Best of luck, man. I know a buch of people from Lebanon and they keep telling me its great. You know how it is though, everyone says their country is the shit when they're nice and far away from it.

Still, I've seen pictures and it does look nice. If nothing else, they have good food. BTW they told me Keanu Reeves is from Beirut.

To know the people is one thing. To have the experience with the nation is another one.

The people of former yugoslavia for example living in foreign nations are not entirely the same people as the one living in their native country. Of course there naturaly are a lot of similarities, but you do change a lot (more or less) in the process. I know many russians though I am not to sure about how much "russia" they have inside, but that is a complicated topic for itself. Beeing a Serbian and living long enough in Germany, its almost in a way that I am seen more German then anyting else by most people ... But well.

I am somewhat sure though the Lebanon could be a interesting place. Not every part of it is in chaos I think, I dont know enough about the nation to say anything acurate, but I just cant imagine that its everywhere bad. A person I knew from Syria in school was extremly well educated and very open minded for example even for western standarts to speak so. I know enough Germans around here which have not his vision. So I assume its with the Lebanon just the same you have good people and bad people. LIke everywhere.

Try telling that the gay people living in the Balkan. If those dont want to stay anymore just as example I absolutely can understand that decision. When it comes to rights for gays the Balkan is still in the stone age, literaly ...

They live in their homelands. The serb one is one of those that still screams for a greater serbia.

I tell that to everyone, fight for the rights then, change your own homeland.

Which is not representative for the situation of the whole nation. I have spend parts of my life time in Serbia and even I cant say to understand the Serbian nation leaving alone the Balkan. That you mention some who want a "great serbia" already tells me enough about how valuable their oppinion is ... I mean yeah, the German people screaming for a greater Germany are as well representative for the whole nation I guess. (hope you get the sarcasm its not meant offensive)

for the prise of your life then? You cant expect everyone to have such courage. People are different. And some just want to have a peacefull quiet life nothing else. Not to fight at every corner. You cant expect everyone to have the personal strange like "some" seem to have and even those are not always the strong ones. One can not blame those for moving out of the danger. If you would not, and stay and fight, kudos to you and much respect seriously. But dont blame others for just runing for their life or a better prospect. When you are somewhat surounded by just only hate and have to live a life in disguise you can only take so much before you break and there are not few that killed them self, particularly when you are alone all the time. There is a time for fighting and a time for living.

I never said he was representative, I just stated he was the one I knew.

Valid question, I would say yes, at the cost of ones life. I would sacrifice my own for something I belived in without question. Of course not everybody wants this, but that is my point of view.

Well best to leave it at that. To really understand a nation and the things inside it one could spend a whole life and still not know everything. Anyway.

Exactly that is what I mean. One can have a oppinion, but to expect people to behave exactly the same way is somewhat overboard. You can try to be a example but you just cant expect from people to risk their life. Such things are in particular easy to say when you never had to make such decisions or ever was pushed in such a situation where it really was on the edge to a fight. I mean I have no clue where you are living or what your experience are. Just saying. Things can change from one minute to another one. Probably many would say they would never ever even for a million do certain things but how many ever offered them exactly in those situation a million ?

More people died from gunshots in Chicago than Iraq last month.

    Plus - Chicago sucks.

True. Just last week there was a murder-suicide a few blocks from me:
"Man used Civil War replica to kill wife, son"

In fact if a day goes by in Chicago without a murder, they would make a report on it on the evening news since it would be pretty weird (A few years ago there was a report like that). I think we lost out murder capital status though in recent years.

    Wha? How so?

I think the fact you live in Sweden somewhat colors your advice. It's easy for you to say that when your country hasn't been to war in 200 years, but when people are regularly getting killed in your backyard, you may want to move your backyard.

If they do I might finally be able to start my own collection. I'm thinking Yugoslav version of Maser 98 (M48) that was exported to Israel in great numbers, and perhaps the original Dragunov SVD for starters :)

"the country is religiously and ethnically mixed, has rich history, Mediterranean climate, and is IMHO the only true democracy in the Middle East"

That climate sure looks great...

Would you guys believe this to be Germany ?

I dont say the Lebanon is the most save place in the midle east. But maybe not every picture of destroyed buildings flying around in the net screams for "omg suicide bombers" I do not live in Lebanon so I cant say how things are there exactly about safety and such. I mean just look at Detroid for example. Some parts of the city look now after the crash worse then Bagdad.
